BEST omelette I've ever had at a restaurant! Typically when I order omelettes out, I am disappointed to find undercooked ingredients, small portions or lack of flavor. Not here! I ordered the Mediterranean omelette and added chicken sausage...unbelievable! All ingredients were soft and cooked through and I definitely did not leave hungry! The staff was super friendly from the minute we walked in. There weren't a ton of tables inside, but we went early enough (9:15 on a Sunday) that we didn't have to wait for a table. My go-to when in North Conway. In good weather you can sit outside, upstairs, and overlook the park and train station. Brought my friend (her first time) and we sat in the corner with a great view of all the interesting items on the walls. The menu has so many choices - if you like game, there's lots of options. Fresh sausage, too! I had the crab cake Benedict with asparagus, and homemade applesauce (served warm) - both totally delicious! Our server was attentive and not pushy - everything appeared in perfect timing. My hot chocolate was just the right temperature and perfectly chocolatey! Bonus: I sat next to an electrical outlet so I was able to charge my old phone while we relaxed in a peace-filled atmosphere and enjoyed our delicious breakfast. Yum! We walked here after scoring a sweet parking spot for our 11:30 train ride. Be sure to read the stairs on your way up!! No wait at all seated near the heater on this chilly morning. Drink order taken almost as soon as we sat down. This is one of those menus where they are so many excellent choices it's hard to decide. I ordered the Omelette Chèvre which was quite large and overstuffed with bacon, spinach, roasted red pepper and so much goat cheese. Almost too much but it was tasty. The rye bread was excellent!!! I asked if the applesauce was homemade and when our server said 'yes' I had to have it!! It was served warm, but honestly was the consistency of typically jarred sauce. Was expecting a chunky cinnamon-y delight and this came up a bit short. My husband ordered the corned beef hash also with rye & applesauce. He ate it all and so that's always a good sign he enjoyed it. Recently tried this amazingly cute place in North Conway while my Airman was in town! What a great breakfast, the potatoes/hashbrowns were cooked and seasoned to perfection. All the meals we chose were delicious! I had the hash and eggs, the hash was mint! Chopped nice and fine, seasoning was just phenomenal, and portion size was perfect! Coffee, was a nice dark roast, just what I like. The place is small, arrive early or be prepared to wait! Came here on vacation to the North Conway area. Nice little place with great food and reasonably quick service. Very eclectic decor...looks like stepping into someone's house. Had some healthy options as well as standard breakfast and lunch fare. The food was super fresh and delicious... Pricing wasn't too bad, keeping in mind that this is a resort town and prices will be higher here than in other areas of NH. There is a 3.4% service fee if you use a credit card to pay...all the shops and restaurants in the area are doing this, so it's not a surprise... All in all, a great meal and I would recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for a good meal at a reasonable price. read more

Really good quaint breakfast spot, easy to miss if you're not looking for it. Thankfully for a Friday morning we didn't have a wait, but as we were leaving it was getting tight - the dining room is cozy, but this is not a group restaurant by any means; most tables are for 2 and the waiting area is fairly small. Our breakfasts were good, nothing special but still tasty. We tried a chicken sausage omelet, corned beef hash plate and split a fruit/yogurt plate. It was more than enough for the 2 of us. Service was ok, I'm pretty sure it was just one person running the whole front of house so she was very busy and a little frazzled. We didn't need too much so it wasn't a problem. Lastly, they up-charge you if you want to pay with a credit card...haven't run into that in a while, but they're very clear when you get the bill that cash is preferred. Want a great breakfast place in North Conway? This is one of a rare few. It was a sunny warm 59F in late Fall and the other popular breakfast joint wouldn't let us sit outside so we tried Stairway and it was excellent. They were accommodating with our outdoor needs and were friendly. The coffee was dark and strong with prompt refills despite us being the only ones on the tiny 2nd floor bartop deck overlooking the square and mountains. Vegetarian options were great as were carnivore delights like local game sausage including venison, boar, elk, buffalo and duck. The raw sausage is available for takeout, too! AFTER TEN YEARS IN NORTH AMERICA, I EXPERIENCED MY FIRST "GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM" COMMENT--BY A WAITER, IN FRONT OF MY CHILD. My husband, son and I came for a quick breakfast before a hike. Although we were seated quickly, it took over 45 minutes for our food to arrive. When we asked about the delay, the waiter rudely responded, "So what can I do?" We asked to cancel, but he said the food was on its way, so we waited. When the food finally arrived, it was average at best. Our bill was incorrect--we were overcharged for items compared to the menu prices (e.g. oatmeal listed as $6 on the menu was charged at $12). After pointing this out twice, and receiving no apology, the waiter told us, "The menu hasn't been updated in years." When we expressed our frustration, he said, "OK, but don't come back here again." When my husband replied that we wouldn't, the waiter's final words were, "Go back where you came from." We moved to the U.S. after earning our PhDs and have been working in biomedical research for years. Our son, who was born here, witnessed the whole incident. I don't expect the waiter to learn from this (I don't believe people who make such comments can), but I want to warn others to avoid this place. We will never return and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

We had originally checked in without any reservations and we were told that it would be approximately 20 minutes and if we could wait outside and come back. We did some looking around at a few stores around the block and arrived 20 minutes later and we were seated. I ordered the Wild Game Sausage Breakfast with coffee and orange juice. The meal was great (I'm a big fan of sausage), there wasn't much of a waste, the offered generous portions. Eggs were cooked exactly how I wanted them and after the meal we left full. Our waitress was very friendly and very chatty. Asked us where we were visiting from and talked about her family from where we were. Prices were great, coffee was good. The corned beef hash is more carrots than anything else. It tasted awful! I've never seen corned beef made with these type of ingredients. 2. The breakfast potato's were tasteless and soggy. 3. The baked beans tasted like maple syrup and ketchup. 4. My poached eggs were severely over cooked. 5. We waited 50 min for breakfast 3 breakfasts of eggs, toast, and a meat = $50. I don't understand. My friends and I pop there on Wednesday for a quick breakfast. The restaurant seems to be a local favorite as it was full and constantly receiving calls for reservations. We were lucky as got sat quickly. The decor is very homey. It makes you feel like you're in a small farm's kitchen. We shared pancakes which were a bit doughy. What a hidden gem! We couldn't believe there was no line or wait to get in on a Saturday morning. We had the Oscar Benedict, Canadian Benedict and our children had the Chocolate Chip Pancakes. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was both friendly and attentive. The cafe is located upstairs in an adorably decorated space. It feels like you are eating breakfast in someone's home rather than a restaurant. When we were there, they were offering both breakfast and lunch all day long. We were going on an adventure today and decided to stop for breakfast at the Stairway Café. Even though there was a line and they said it would an approximate 30-minute wait, it actually was about a 10-minute wait. The restaurant is located on the second floor of the building - a problem for anyone with a disability. They have a very small dining room and some outside rail seating. The décor is very eclectic, a little bit of this and a little bit of that; making it oh so charming. Karen, our server, came right over and warmly welcomed us to the café. The coffee was exceptionally tasty. We enjoyed the Vegetable Garden Scramble, an omelet with onions, green peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, broccoli, asparagus, spinach and carrots with rye toast and home fries; the Corned Beef Hash Omelet topped with cheddar cheese, home fries and rye toast; and a Stairway Wrap, roast turkey breast, grilled asparagus, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and Boursin cheese in a whole wheat tortilla. We were all so pleased with our meals and service. Just an interesting tidbit, they prefer cash, so if you use a credit card, be prepared to pay a little more. read more

The waiting was horrible, we waited to be sat about 55 minutes. The place is very tiny to get the food we waited about 1 hour just to get, Huevos Rancheros and Huevos with Salsa Verde. My bf loved the fact they had many different hot sauces to choose from. Fast forward to March 26, 2023. We had a short wait which was fine. We hopped over to Zebs while we were waiting. I got a different omelette (jalapeño chicken sausage) and he got the same thing, huevos rancheros. They skimped out on the potatoes compared to last time. And, the food was mediocre. My bf enjoyed his breakfast but instead of tons of hot sauce options, he was given one packet of cholula. They def weren't bad but not as impressive as last time. We will still return. read more

Great little cafe in downtown North Conway! There isn't much outdoor seating on the main drag, but Stairway has a nice little outdoor area that can fit about 8 people comfortably. Great spot to people watch and enjoy the beautiful view! I stopped in for a quick lunch and was waited on immediately. The staff was very friendly and prompt. Despite a busy full restaurant, the service was excellent. I ordered a side salad and a club. The ingredients in both were fresh and delicious. The sandwich came with very stale chips, I wish they left them off but hey, I didn't come here for the Lays! I'd highly recommend Stairway for a quick lunch! read more

By far one of the best breakfast / brunch spots in North Conway. My Husband & I eat here everytime we're in town. Depending on the time of year you go will depend on how long you're going to wait to be seated. The wait on a busy morning is roughly 30min. With only about 6-7 tables indoor & 6 places to sit outside on the deck if it's really busy you could be waiting longer but.... this place is WORTH IT!!! We've sat both inside & out. If you can be sat outside on a beautiful morning take up the offer. It's a cool experience looking out at the mountains & the streets of North Conway. The atmosphere is decorated artsy. You'll find your eyes scanning the room often. Never know whatchya gonna find. The staff is cool. Not overly friendly but mannered & attentive. Looking for a delicious fresh cup of Joe to go with a dish loaded with delicious food, this is the place. My Husband highly recommends the Game Sausage. He gets it everytime. This place is so cute. Nice views if it's warm enough to sit out on the balcony. Loved the decor and music playing while we had lunch I had a very generous turkey stuffing cranberry panini. I couldn't finish it but enjoyed the rest later. Others in my group had another fun panini with goat cheese and apple, and a turkey wrap. The vegetarian beans side dish was also really good I like that they gave a bottle of water to the table. Standard breakfast/lunch food with an edge and very high-quality, fresh ingredients. However, service was painfully slow. My group didn't care, but we saw one table ask for their food to-go since it was so late and another table just got up and left.
