My policy states I have towing coverage and so I called them to start claim and they only cover $40 which is f***ing laughable. This is why I hate insurance companies and companies in general. I'm still in shock, but this is true. Not only is Standard Insurance capable of treating you unprofessionally through the phone when working a claim; examples hum while you explain, ignore, and shout back, but they lie and create dates and situations to cancel policies using made-up back dates, even if you have paid. When you want to escalate and speak to a Manager or someone in higher authority, they don't give phone numbers or email addresses but tell you they are on vacation and make it very difficult to go past the first person that picks up the phone. You must get legal help and get the Department of Insurance involved if you want justice. If your employer uses The Standard for their Short-term Disability benefits for employees, please talk to your Human Resources/Benefits Department and ask them to use a more reputable company. I've been off work since May 12th, then used 2 weeks of PTO for my 2 week waiting period. Benefits were to start May 26th; it is June 10th and I am still waiting for my first check from this company. This is unacceptable!! When I called to ask about the delay, they shared that my check was processed on June 2nd, mailed on June 4th, and I have to allow 7-10 business days for the check to reach me. When I asked why the delay from 6/2-6/4 in mailing the check out, it was blamed on the claim examiner. I asked if they could direct deposit my remaining checks to avoid such a delay, the answer was no, all benefits are paid by check and sent by mail. When I commented that it was ridiculous to take so long, I was told Sundays don't count, and that it was being mailed from Oregon. More than likely, I will be back to work before ever seeing my first check... when I commented that by the time I get my 3rd check, it will probably be the end of July, his answer was MAYBE. If I could rate this company with ZERO Stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor before you ever need to use Short-term or Long-term Disability benefits, BEG your Human Resources to find a more reliable company to deal with. 17 years I was standard always pretty reasonable. The n my wife made 1 minor claim . No problem. The her vehicle had two small dings made by people unknown in a parking lot so I reckoned I made the claim. Firstly they insisted on making it 2 claims, then when I discovered there was $500 deductible I decided to cancel the claims. Come this year and sia decides to cancel my coverage after 17 years of perfect driving! Now I'm stuck with , a minimum $350 dollar policy else where , even up to $570 plus!!! If I could give a negative 5 or higher I would. I heard the commercials on KLTY & decided to get a quote. Not a Fan of no "apple for apple" quoting. Felt the rep Sam was condescending about no health insurance coverage. He Mentioned no PIP as full coverage addresses this. Stated any injuries from non insured motorists would have to be addressed by filing a small claims against that uninsured motorist. Again suggested health insurance would address injuries. No separate glass deductibles. No car rental coverage. Max $40 towing reimbursement not direct payments to tow company. KLTY receives income for the commercials. Man hit my moms car. Standard tells her she needs to call to get a rental and they will reimburse her $30 a day for the rental in a reimbursement. Meaning she must PAY out of pocket for 6 days rental and wait for them to get around to giving her the money back. This is after they explain to her that it may take two years for them to get her car fixed. We didn't hit our, the Person driving a car that has Standard insurance hit out car. I cannot imagine how this insurance company could possibly be in compliance with State laws. They offered us a check for well less than the actual cost of repairs. They are having us book all rentals, repairs etc.. and want us to pay out of our pockets. This is ridiculous. I have been a customer for several years, no issues until last month. I went to the office to give them my new address & new debit card #. They emailed that the monthly premium would go up a little due to moving to an apartment, so I know they had the information. They processed that month's premium on that new card while I was there. The next month comes & apparently they used the old debit card for payment & it didn't go through. They mailed a notice of intent to cancel - to a home I haven't lived at in 4 years. When I found this our, it was 2 days passed the cancelation date. I called them - this is your fault for not using the right card & mailing to the wrong address. THEY DIDN'T CARE!!!! We had a small finder binder and they're not paying for the vehicle that was hit, and offering $500 (eye roll) for my vehicle! I had a really good rate for a couple years and when rates went up, they took me off of auto draft without notifying me and my policy lapsed, and they would not reinstate it unless I got a new policy which was doubled what I was paying. They did it on purpose. Even when I showed them the emailed where I did pay and ask for auto draft, they would not reinstate my policy. This is why insurance companies have a bad rap, because of companies that practice like this. read more

Great until you need them. I was with Standard Insurance Agency for 3 years. I finally had an issues November 25, 2023. I had a water heater failure in the garage that ended up leaking into the Master bedroom and bathroom, game room, and living. I called standard but they were already closed for the weekend and only was able to leave a voicemail. While in the middle of my emergency I called a restoration company as well as a plumber. Finally, on Monday when I called again to talk with a person, that took my information and was told I would receive a call back. After getting the call back, I was informed that Standard Insurance considered a water heater an appliance and that they did not cover water damaged caused by appliances. This ended up costing me over $10,000 out of my own pocket. Every other insurance company covers this and if you want to exclude it they give you the option. Standard Insurance Agency sales reps never shared this information with me as they were cutting coverage to get me a lower rate just to get my business. Stay away from these guys read more

Submitted a claim for hail damage in Spring 2017, they were quick to look at the damages of the car. UNTIL I had to work with the adjuster, MAN was that ever a pain and frustrating. Going on a month of finalizing the claim for hail damage! Phone tag, called 4 times and your directed to the operator for the adjuster, not once did they call me back! You don't ever get phone number of the adjuster, you have to go through their CSR's Slow, slow. Also my agent, lacked e-mail etiquette. You REALLY get what you pay for!! This will mark 21 years with Standard Insurance. For only the past two years has it been liability only, due to the age of my car. I have recommended them to friends and family as the "best insurance company" in Texas. However there seems to be no method to change insurance due dates. My problem is that each year when my renewal is due there is no grace period. I am disabled and on a fixed income that I receive on the 4th Wednesday of every month. Every year I hold my breath and pray nothing happens during the time my policy cancels due to my pay date. I have repeatedly tried to get it changed to the 28th day, which covers of potential pay dates for the year. All of my other creditors and policies have allowed this change. I hope something will be done to resolve this problem in the future or else I will be forced to switch. I love Standard Insurance and am deeply disappointed with this issue. I am planning to purchase a new car next year with full coverage but may not be able to stay with Standard. read more

This is my first policy with this company. Standard dose not offer insurance for real world situations. They very slow to pay claims and do not offer car rental. This company has very poor customer service; when I would call to them to check on the status of my situation, it seems as though the front desk person was sleeping or eating. I had an accident on 08/06/2019; I called them immediately to explain what happened. They assigned me to Rebecca to handle my claim. An adjuster was out to look at my car within 10 business days and a check was sent to me about 5 days later. I took my car to the body shop right away. Rebecca said that everything that comes in office has a 24 hour processing time. The body shop was on top of getting things done. They sent an email for a supplement two different times because the adjusted continued to leave items off that needed repair. I continued to call Rebecca to see why things were taking so long. She was rude and condescending when I had questions and concerns. I was having to pay for a rental car myself which is very expensive. She didn't care at all and offered solutions to my questions or concerns. I had the body shop rep call after the second supplement email because I told him I wasn't getting anywhere. She was rude to him as well; she said the she had sent a screenshot of the check when she had not. I was CC'd on both emails. No replies on both emails. The body shop had my car ready for pick up a few days, but Rebecca was not responding properly. This insurance company is cheap. So, if you're in a financial bind, I say call them. I will never do business with this insurance company again and currently looking new coverage. I have learned my lesson for going with a no-name budget insurance company. My car (Infiniti Q50) was set on fire in May 2020 and I filed an insurance claim with this insurance company the following day after speaking with the Carrollton Arson Investigator and Carrollton Police Department. There were no missed car or insurance payments. This insurance company told me that they had to wait until they received the final Arson Investigator's report before they would consider doing anything with the claim. Do you know how long it took the Arson Investigator to complete the investigation? It took the Arson Investigator 8 months to close the case so that meant I had to continue to make a car payment on a car that was totaled for 8 months. Keep in mind, I was unable to get another car because I could not afford two car payments. I happened to have another car in another state (that was paid off) which I had to pay $500 to have that car transported to me in Texas. If you don't mind having to wait 8 months for this insurance company to honor your claim, then you should consider this company; otherwise, run far, far, far away, and don't look back. read more

I never write reviews, that's how bad they have been. I've been a customer for over 8 years paying for full coverage on my vehicle and never an accident. Well I had my first accident nearly 3 months ago. I called in the same day and found out I didn't have towing or rental coverage, oops. It took them a week to actually look at the car, another few weeks to send me the initial information (all the while I am paying for a rental car). Their initial offer was 1/4 of what it is worth on kbb. Finally they upped the price, but still way under valued. There is no way I can purchase a similar vehicle for what they offered, and this took 2 months to get to this point. I have called, emailed countless times and my claims adjuster keeps making mistake after mistake. He finally sent me a final total, but somehow forgot I wanted the car/title back (I told him this at least 5 times), he had to resubmit it all and I still haven't received that. I finally called for his supervisor to complain and get someone else on my claim and she/the supervisor never called me back. Stay away from standard insurance in hurst!! Contact them and get 3 different quotes from 3 different people at Standard and they send me 3 different quotes with all different premiums, some as much as $200 higher?? Decided to give them a try and bought the least expensive policy and pay in full (against my better judgement). Two months later I get back from vacation and find a letter (looked like junk mail) saying my policy was cancelling in 2 days! No phone call or email (which they have both) and no certified letter - just junk looking mail which I almost threw away. Called them and they have no real explanation why cancelling and tried to go into a speech which I felt was going to ask for more $$$. Ended them from the BS and already had Esurance ready to go at less rate ! And disputed the charge on credit card for full refund. read more

I had a auto-pay set up for my policy, which did not go through, because they did it on the day before they were supposed to ( i had it set up to be paid on my paydays). They claim the mailed a late notice and a cancellation notice, neither of which I received, for whatever reason. It would seem like a phone call would be in order since I had auto-pay set up to check to make sure they had the correct information or something. I checked with my bank, and they didn't even try to process the payment a second time. I finally realize that my payment didn't go thru, literally 2 days after they "canceled" my policy and they "unfortunately" cannot reinstate my policy. WHAT? No phone call, no mail... no email NOTHING from Standard Insurance to let me know what was going on. Their customer service and follow-thru leaves a lot to be desired. When I had a different carrier they called twenty times a day when a payment was missed. Oh well... i don't recommend them at all. read more

This insurance company is horrible. I was rear ended at a stop light by an extremely intoxicated person during the day. After she was immediately arrested for dwi I assumed it would be easy dealing with the insurance company since there was literally nothing I could have done to prevent the collision. Nope extremely hard to deal with, I was accused of backing into the person who was drunk, I was told they were not going to pay out, they gave me the run around about getting my truck fixed wanted me to go to their body shop, and the kicker was they said they would pay max $11 a day for a rental car. When I informed them I should receive a rental vehicle comparable to my truck they refused and said the max I could have was a Ford Focus. Luckily I was able to borrow a friends vehicle. Then what should have been a quick repair time, they kept hasstling the body shop and nickel and dimed them and turned out my truck was in the shop for two months. It's disappointing to hear of this company being praised for how great it is on KLTY (90.9), a Christian based radio station stating how they give lower rates. My experience is quite frustrating because I found another insurance company that gave me lower car insurance rate bundled with my homeowner's insurance. Well I ask for a letter of experience and they stated they don't provide those because the declaration page and proof of my payments is enough. Well, not according the other insurance companies I have switched from. I mean a SIMPLE letter or email stating i have not lapsed in coverage and they outright refused when I asked for it and my current insurance agent. Due to their refusal, my current insurance provider is dropping my coverage at the end of the week and on top of that I had just purchased a new car. I'm so angry because customer service no longer exists at certain companies and I should not be punished because I went with another company or they should at least let new customers know they don't provide letters of experience should they leave. STANDARD INSURANCE deserves ZERO stars. Beware folks. Lastly, I was told by my current insurance holder that the only recourse I have is to go with another company that is outside of theirs for 6 months but I will have to pay a higher insurance note. Do not use this insurance company as is endorsed by KTLY as "our friends at standard insurance" I have had coverage with this company for 3 years and have filed a claim for hail damage to my roof and water damage from a "sudden burst from a pipe" in both instances I was told that these are "not any of the 8 perils listed in my standard policy".
