I'm writing this review from a third party standpoint for any future travelers who ever want to visit Austin, TX and love whiskey. I did noticed that on yelp they have better reviews, probably from locals but if you are visiting from out of town, be aware of their customer service and hopefully you will have a better experience than what we did. First off, this place has lots of potential. Their whiskeys are indeed very delicious and they do have an array of them that you can choose from BUT their customer service needs attention and I really hope the owner, NOT the manager reads this review instead and puts his team on check, especially the manager ( who I'm sure was the person who was there on Aug 9 at 7 pm) to train him in becoming more of a leader rather than a Manger who let's his workers treat others rudely and get away with anything. Based off my observation, the employees run the show there. Long story short, a gentleman next to us was touching the tinctures ( I believe) that was on the bar visible. He was curious about them and there was no sign anywhere that said "Do Not Touch". The bartender was there and she didn't say anything ( or maybe didnt notice) but when her co-worker came from the back, this employer literally raised her voice to the gentleman and said "No No do not touch that!, we dont want strangers touching that!" She literally was freaking out and did cause a scene that was not necessary and was very unprofessional. The gentleman was of course upset and told her that she was rude. She did not seem apologetic and told the gentleman that she was not being rude. Fom a third party stand point,She was rude. I'm not one to get involved in other people's problems but I felt bad for the gentleman. I told the bartender that the lady was rude and she simply said it is a health violation if people touched the syrups. On top of that, he had ordered his food, paid, and left without taking his food. The manager ( whom I assume) came over to see what had happened and didn't even bother talking to the employee or at least give the gentleman a discount or have him not pay for his food. The manager just stood there and the gentleman left. Lastly, before the gentleman left, he was kind enough to even tipped the bartender ( not the employer who scolded him like a child) and she didn't even say thank you and just ignored him. After he left, the vibe was uncomfortable because the bartenders were lingering on the situation with other patrons there ( seemed like regulars and locals) stating that they didn't do anything wrong and playing the victim. It felt like a high-school drama situation and after that I felt uncomfortable and was pretty upset on how they treated a human being like that. My brother and I left right after we were done with our drinks. To the employees, owner, and manger. I understand that you have health codes and need to honor them but your employer had no right to react the way she did. She could've came to him provitaley and kindly asked him not touch them because of so and so. She literally embarrassed him. Look at the cameras and see it from a third party perspective and address it to her. No human being deserves to be treated that way and let make fun of them or linger the situation afterwards. So therfore, as a traveler, I do not recommend this place. read more

This review is in three parts: Location, Food/Drink, Service Location 5/5: This place is a few minutes walk from the main part of Rainey Street, and I am grateful that's the case because it's a great place to go to if you were misled into thinking Rainey Street was going to be a nice place to spend a Saturday night. Food/Drink 4/5: The cocktails were alright. This is a very new restaurant at the time of writing, so I'll make some suggestions for the bar program. Y'all need to add more variation to the cocktail menu. I enjoyed the brisket sandwich I had, and I'm glad that their kitchen was open until 11pm. I'm appreciative that they made a Sparkling Lavender Lemonade mocktail for my SO, and even more appreciative that they only charged us $5 for it. That's how it should be, but I wouldn't have minded paying more for a craft mocktail if they had any on their menu. Service 2/5: At first, our bartender was providing great service, but as the evening went on, it got pretty weird and bad. Idk if she was going through some personal stuff that evening, but as the evening went on, she became more inattentive. The progressively worsening service culminated when she smoked a cocktail that wasn't for us right next to us at the bar, getting smoke all up in our faces. It's important to note that there was an entire empty section of the bar she could have done it at. Really though, there should be ventilation where they smoke the cocktails, and if there isn't, they shouldn't be doing it around anyone read more

I went to the Standard Proof: Whiskey Cocktail Making Class. Joe was the best bartender and teacher! Joe was engaged and informative on mixology and whiskey. I told Joe I went to the Nashville class and he made it unique and taught me all new things! It didn't even feel like the same class. New cocktails, new techniques! First, when seated, the servers argued over who would help us (neither wanted to) and it took entirely too long to start our drinks and dinner, and our food was not cooked as requested.
