Service is mixed. I've gotten really good service from butchers who pull beef slabs from the back and make customized steaks. I've also walked in to an empty store and all the guys scatter like roaches, leaving one lazy guy up front who will only sell me what's in the display. This has happened more than once. Nobody likes having to pay for street parking Came here on Memorial Day and there was no line. Kelly was great recommending meats and going above and beyond to season everything and telling me the best ways to cook it. They sell seasonings of all kind and snacks to go with your meat. Got two Prime Rib roasts for Christmas dinner. They Frenched and cradled it for me. Cooked them both at 195 degrees (one to 120 and the other to 150 internal). Lovely local butchery. I'm so happy this is within walking distance to me! I've been trying to eat more quality animal protein, and Standing's is it! I love that they source from local farms who pasture-raise. When I first stepped in I was greeted kindly, I asked if they had duck breasts available, they were like, "of course! How many do you want?" I got two, both huge ones! They were like .75 lbs each lol. The lady who helped me offered to vacuum seal them if I liked, so I could store in the freezer. I opted for one to be sealed and one wrapped in paper so I could enjoy it that night. I had to cut it in half, no way I could eat a whole one. Two nights of duck in a row! Although the total price was obviously going to be higher than grocers, it was well worth it. The duck breast turned out DELICIOUS and I only needed to flavor it with some salt and pepper, when I normally would have to make some type of sauce to go with. Amazing butchery, I'll definitely be back and highly recommend if you want some quality, local meats paired with awesome service. read more

Standing's is a great butcher shop within a short drive of our house, and we've been picking up meat here now and then for the last few years. It's almost always excellent, definitely the best butcher near us. We used to live more or less right across the street from McCall's, and having Standing's has taken some of the sting off of that loss. There's free parking in an easy lot, and I've never seen it particularly busy. We've made a habit of calling ahead and dropping in for a two-minute visit, sometimes with our three-year-old, who now knows and enjoys these errands to the butcher. The shop is inviting and attractive, with a tantalizing display case full of meat as well as several pantry items available for purchase throughout the small front part of the store. Most of the space is devoted to butchering, and it feels like a pretty serious operation. The people are friendly and professional. This is the kind of place where you can go home with instructions on how to cook your meat. We've gotten several items here, and I've been particularly fond of the sausages and the duck breast. There's a nice range of sausages, from gourmet ball park-style hot dogs to green chorizo and beef, cheese, and bacon, all excellent for a day of grilling. Our most common purchase these days is a pair of duck breasts, which feels indulgent when cooked at home. The duck is consistently fantastic, and the staff will score the breasts for you if you ask. Two misses that are worth mentioning, one probably our fault, the other almost certainly not. We got a brisket for a barbecue once and it turned out pretty bad, tough and dry, a total waste of money and effort. I'm willing to bet, though, that this was on us. Not so the expensive grass-fed ribeye that we ordered for a New Year's Eve dinner at home. We've bought and cooked dozens of steaks over the years (it's our go-to for a special occasion spent at home, every Valentine's Day and plenty of other holidays when we can't or don't want to go out), so I'm confident of our method. The steaks we got from Standing's were actively terrible, stringy and unpleasant. Standing's has been so good otherwise, though, and has such strong reviews that I'm willing to allow that this might've been a freak occurrence. We've been cagey about getting more steaks, but will have to try again at some point. In the meantime, we'll keep dropping in to pick up duck breasts and other meaty treats. read more

I come here every once in a while to get some sausages for chili. My first visit I let the guy behind the counter know why I wanted sausages he helped me pick out some from their selection. I liked it so much I went back, the selection changes so I wasn't able to get the exact flavor I got previously, which is something that happened with every subsequent visit. However, no matter what they have available I was able to make some good chili out of whatever they had. On top of that I usually get a brownie at the register-if it's available. The only real downside is that the price can be on the higher side for things; the sausages are a little high but they are good. I don't know if I could see myself spending so much on say, ground beef or their meatballs though. read more

I love folks that work with animals. These folks do amazing work with animals, let me tell you. I'm a huge fan of their work with the bovine, pig and fowl. And lambs. Can't forget those little cuties... Bones for my broth, yes. Amazing handmade sausages, yes. The thickest rib-eye I've ever had, yes that too. Locally sourced things to eat with meat are also stocked. On the weekends, the bread will knock your socks off. The lamb skewers made my breakfast. They were so good!! I'm excited to try my chix sausage next. I'm from the SF Bay Area and they say they get their chix from a farmer in Marin. It will go well with my sourdough bread from SF for breakfast! Too bad I'm not a spicy eater bc their green chorizo looks amazing. The staff person was honest to say it was strong for a mild spicy person like be because they use Serrano and Jalapeño peppers for the blend. Bought a piece of meat for our Christmas Day meal. Unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. For a high price ($30 per pound) meat I would expect to be given a whole piece of ribs. We ordered a 5lb grass fed rib roast meat, the top part, which's the best part, was missing! Did they not know how to cut the meat or did they sell that particular part to someone else? Or kept for themselves? The girl who helped us weighed our meat, it was 5lbs, then she wrapped with all the paper and weighed again and tried to charge us 6lbs. I'll be honest I'm not the biggest fan of grass fed/finished meat but that's not why I love this place. I'm lucky enough to have the luxury of being able to pick where I source my meat from. After doing a bunch of research, it seems like Standing's is ethical enough for me. As far as I can tell the beef/pork is pasture raised and according to a (dated) interview I found it's also ethically slaughtered. This is way more easy to morally justify in my head than getting meat from a factory farm. A few people in the reviews seem to complain about the price. I'm personally more than willing to spend extra in order to maintain a supply chain that prioritizes ethics -- even if that means I eat meat half as much now. But to each their own. read more

Excellent service from all of the employees who are knowledgeable about their products. They also said that they are open to special requests, such as putting a sausage in a non-pork casing. The meats are all from local and smaller farmers with the best standards for animal treatment so they are free range and feed on natural foods without any hormones and only antibiotics if they are sick. They have a variety of sausages and those that don't contain pork also do not have a pork casing on them. The prices seem comparable to other quality butcher shops. Parking next to the shop is free for an hour in the valet lot. Street parking with meters and otherwise is really limited for residential parking. read more
