What a great place! I've been wanting to buy a SUP board since trying one for 5 solid minutes while camping last year at Carpinteria. We've rented a few, and decided to take a lesson that would take us into light surf up at Santa Barbara. Our big challenge is that we can only afford one board at present, and my husband and I are not the same size people! We've been told elsewhere we'd have to have a 11'6" board or even bigger. Ian took us out for a fun lesson, beginning in the SB harbor, and then going over to the little beach next to it. He picked out several boards for us, and my husband was able to do well. I loved the boards so much that we decided to buy one. What's amazing is that their Hammer boards are so well designed that we bought a 10'6" 33"wide board, and it is wonderful! They totally went the extra mile....literally...by asking Kelsey to deliver the board down to us in Carpinteria after hours. As luck would have it, I had a problem that same day, first time out, with a war between the fin and sand, caused by my complete lack of surfing experience, and I was heartbroken. We went back up from Carp to SB, and they took great care of me and absolutely made my day. This shop has the perfect combination of technical expertise and customer service. I high recommend SUP sports when purchasing a custom made board. I had SUP design and make a paddle board for my friend to give as a gift and I relied on their experience and knowledge to make one that would properly fit his larger stature. The board looks great and arrived in great condition. Their communication back and forth to ask and answer questions was quick both through email and phone. Ian was a big help working with to get all the details as well as making sure thing were set up for the final shipment. This definitely wasn't a quick service but if you want it done right, it takes time. I will definitely look forward to the next purchase from them!! Nick, Deb, and Wardog have been incredibly supportive and friendly. I was going to buy a Starboard Whopper or Widepoint, but decided to try some similar boards at SUPSports, and loved the Stoke 9'6 33.5. But Nick suggested since I was moving down from such a big, long heavy board of 11'2, that I also try some others so that I arrive at the right option - so I tried a bunch of others. All of them were awesome, with different characteristics. Finally, Wardog responded to an email as I was stuck between the Stoked and the Mahalo 10'3 and based on what I was doing (waist to head high waves, some paddling around SB) he recommended the Mahalo. Bought a Wardog from these guys in November 2016. It is pretty much already on its way to the landfill. Customer service here is great. Guys are great. Boards look cool but don't look too long. Look at these boards wrong and they will fail. I have owned many, many surfboards of all types across many sports and these boards are the weakest and cheapest I have ever come across. My wife and I had purchased paddle boards from REI but couldn't find a paddle for her. We stumbled upon SUP Sports in SB and bought her a paddle that they custom cut to her. Once we saw the quality and care they put into just a paddle we were hooked! We looked at their board options and were so impressed. We took our boards back to REI to buy a lighter and better quality board from SUP Sports. Shop around and then stop by and you will be sold on their quality as well. I have been buying gear from Wardog, the proprietor of this business, for more than 10 years. He has always set me up with the best gear for me and my family at fair pricing. He rides what he sells and takes the time to determine the best fit for us to indulge in that overwhelming joy that can be experienced by riding a board on water. Dealing with SUP Sports' staff has always been a positive experience. My current indulgence of board on water has been SUP surfing. I have to say that SUP Sports carbon/bamboo 90 sq. in. paddle is my favorite. I have tried many other more expensive name brand paddles and always go back to the SUP Sports paddle. I recently bought the three piece model for easy air travel to an upcoming Maui surf vacation. read more

I had stand-up paddled once, and my husband had not yet tried it. We had a free morning while visiting family, so we took a lesson with Woodie. Allen was helpful with the simple sign-up process. We appreciated the local, ma and pop shop and service. Woodie tailored the lesson to our skill and adventure levels! His expertise with stand up and as a firefighter medic trained in water rescue significantly added to the comfort level and overall experience. We will definitely rent from them next time we SUP in Santa Barbara! read more

Stopped by here Sunday (we were up in Santa Barbara from San Diego for Solstice) to finally check this shop out (I've known about it for a few years) and ended up buying a DVD that I had been interested in for awhile. Very nice selection of their own brand of boards and they offer rental services which I will use next time I'm up that way. Had a nice chat with two employees working that day and sorry guys I didn't get your names. Oh well next time. First disclaimer...i will have to finish this review at a later time as I haven't ridden my board yet. I just ordered a mahalo shaka sup from these guys. I have been researching sups for almost a year now wanting to purchase one instead of always renting. I live in the central valley so a lot of lake paddling, but often visit Santa Cruz, and other beaches so wanted a board capable of surfing pretty well. I finally went with these guys after not really seeing anything great from REI. I wasn't able to make the 5 hr trek to santa barbara so had my board shipped. From placing the order online to receiving my board customer service has been awesome. I received a phone call within about 30 minutes of ordering my board. There were some weird issues with my credit card and the guys were patient. They were helpful with paddle and fin selection asking what I would use my board for. Shipping was prompt. I was a little skeptical on how a sup board would do being shipped, but not a scratch on the board. The board is beautiful, pretty light, and nice attention to detain from the board to the paddle to fins. Can't wait to try my new toy out...will post some pics then. read more

What a great shop. Both Nick and Al took a ton of time answering questions and learning about my paddling style and interests. They let me demo several boards over two days and set me up just right. They were quick to share paddling tips and explain all technical details about their boards, materials, designs etc. And the fact the boards are made in 805 is a double bonus.
