One of the best weekends I've had in a while was camping with Dustie Wagens. My friends and I camped in 2 VW buses at Lake Cachuma. Good times by the fire before we retired to sleep comfortably in the buses. We also got the chance to make it to the Dustie Wagens kick off party and see the office in downtown Santa Barbara. Adam and Mel are great and made sure every detail was taken care of. I highly recommend this cool company. read more

Nostalgia at its finest. I own a Honda Element (which I love), but had another couple joining us on a camping trip to Lake Cachuma. We were debating whether or not to pitch a tent *rim shot*, but came across Dustie Wagens randomly while wandering around Santa Barbara. After a very brief deliberation, we went for it! After chatting up with the super helpful and friendly owners Adam and Melissa, they showed us to our van and gave us a rundown of all the fun quirks of an early 70's vee dub. I couldn't wait to get my grubby hands on the keys fast enough. We tossed in our gear and fired her up and I was instantly transported back to my 5 year old self shifting my dad's old squareback while he steered and hit the clutch. I couldn't wipe the grin off my face as I worked the shifter with those long throws and spun the oversized bus steering wheel. Anyhoo, after getting used to punching the gas and working with only 4 gears, the drive up and down the mountain was easy and the VW was surprisingly nimble. Sorry, I digress, hahhaa on to the details. The rear seats easily fold down for about a full size bed that was surprisingly comfortable. The gem of this sucker definitely was the Westfalia upgrade. After a few easy snap buttons and pull latches, we pushed the top up and ta-daaaaaa instant bunk beds! The lake was beautiful as always, but renting the bus was definitely what will stick around in my grey matter for many years to come. I can't express how much I loved the experience and recommend this anyone who knows how to drive a stick shift, loves classic cars, and just anybody who wants to have a good time. I am looking forward to checking out one of their upcoming beer and wine tours. I have nothing more to say than...farfegnugen! Smoochies! read more

We went on a camping trip up in Santa Barbara and it was the most magical experience! I went with a handful of friends and luckily we were able to book them far enough in advance to be able to take two of the vans so I was able to experience the different interiors/exteriors. They were cozy and comfortable and each one slept FOUR people comfortably! I would definitely recommend. We are already planning our trip for next year and plan on using these vans! I surprised my husband with a California Road Trip in a Dustie Wagen for our anniversary. Told him to pack a small bag of casual clothes and that's it, so he had no idea where we were headed until he saw the yellow Bus in the driveway. We just had three days, so the rule was stay on PCH as much as possible. We opted for hotels instead of actually camping to save setup/breakdown time and be able to cover more territory. Melissa and Adam were so cool and the bus was such a blast to drive. I learned to drive my Dad's '65, so the 4-speed & clutch felt pretty familiar. Total flash back to cruise down the coast at an easy pace and feel connected to the ocean and the wind. We didn't even mind getting passed by pretty much everybody because they all either waved or honked hello and snapped pics when they passed. And it's a proven fact that a bright yellow 70's VW bus makes EVERYONE smile. We made friends at every stop and as we charted our course from cafe to restaurant to hotel the days flew by waaaay too quickly. We were actually a little sad to give back the keys but we made a plan for our next Dustie adventure on the train home from Santa Barbara. Next time we will bring our boards and do the beach camping experience and have friends do the same! read more

So...we haven't rented from them but we met them in a taproom and what an amazing family they are. If their business practice is half of what their family dynamics are it will be a great experience. We wanted a local company to showcase at Fork Fest 2018 & Dustie Wagens was the first one that came to mind, due to their unique pop-up shop & vintage restored '70's era VWs. The Dustie Wagens team was great to work with & brought the Harry, along with some locally designed surfboards and other small items for sale. Lots of attendees of the festival expressed how interested they were in renting the VW & had no idea they could do so - it was a great educational experience for our festival attendees. Decided to try something different than the regular tent/camp or hotel thing. Found these guys online and let me tell you, what a great experience from start to finish. The owners greet you with a ready (all inclusive) bus at their adorable shop in Santa Barbara. The buses are always a head turner, and such a conversation starter. Can't wait to get back and try out another one of their amazing adventure busses. read more
