Overall a nice course. Lacks in what one would expect in an otherwise nice course like a driving range and nicer restaurant. I'm a Cal fan so I hope I'm not being too harsh. Great place though and I had a fun time playing in a best ball tourney. If you're all business and want to play golf and leave, go for it. If you like chillin' afterwards over a good beer and talking to everyone about how cool you are, how you invented the internet and will one day overcome that damn slice, then you're better off finding some place else. Had a orientation lunch here. Cute set-up on the patio. Shaded by trees w/ tables set up around. We have sliders, arepas, guac, hummus, babganoush, pico de gallo, cocktail shrimp and for dessert lemon bars, brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and oatmeal cookies. Overall good. Sliders were pretty good. The chips and dip were easy to eat, making you want to come back for more. Too bad today was a little warm. But overall, nice place to have a little get together. read more

For me, this was one of the biggest perks aboot moving here. In my opinion, the course is phenomenal! If you're a student or post-doc, than it's by far the best golf deal around...I don't even think the local farmer would let you hit balls in their cow-pasture for $25. Awesome. Not a sexy course but a very natural course. I mean you won't see man made fountains or slick stone walkways, just natural goodness. The greens are smooth and the burger dogs are the bomb! Worth going to at least once if you get the chance as for me I will return. read more

A fun yet challenging test of golf at an excellent facility. A very natural layout and design leaves the golfer no room to complain. There is room to miss your shots here and there, but if you are consistently off line, you will end up paying the price. Some outstanding views to be had on the back 9 as well. read more

The place gets super crowded on the weekend afternoons but you can typically squeeze in somewhere. Great course, second only to Williams' Taconic Golf Club as the best college golf course in the country. The holes have a TON of variety and the course is well-maintained. Haven't played it since they've re-designed it, since it's only open to Stanford affiliates & my buddy has graduated. But if you get the chance to play, it's well worth the $100. read more

The food was good, we had club sandwich, chili and salad . That took almost an hour. First when we walked in, there were probably 6 large tables available in the sun room (more than half the seats) and the women at the bar said we could not sit there because they where all "reserved". By the time we left, one single group had showed up, four had left and the room was pretty much entirely empty. Great Optics Stanford, my 80 plus year old parents were so impressed. Then they stuck us in a corner. There were two guys sitting at the end of the bar literally waiving to get the tenders attention (several times before they did). The before mentioned girl concentrated heavily on the pos and the floor, while the single waiter (bar part was half full) set tables for the invisible people in the sun room who had "reserved" them. The only way to get, even, eye contact from the three workers would have been to be butt naked and light yourself on fire and maybe do cartwheels across the bar. After about 15 minutes I went up to the bar, stood there for a good long time and asked the bartender (who kept his back to me while making espresso's) if we could put an order in. He said he would be right there, yea, right. Ten minutes later, and after helping bar sitters that where not even there when we arrived, he took our very simple order. Three things, two waters and a coke. 23 minutes later he brought us water. Ten minutes after that our food. Wow, a sandwich in just under an hour. Thank god it was almost empty by then or we would still be waiting. Fortunately, when you are 85 you are not in a huge hurry, although my Mom was stressing on a doctors appointment she had to get to. But we still had a nice time being together. In conclusion, I am giving it two stars because the chefs seem to at least know how to toast bread and spoon chile in a bowl, which clearly exceeds the skills of the servers. However, I don't blame the servers, as someone in the industry, I can see that this place is poorly managed, understaffed with a terrible work culture and likely zero training. It showed. I would advise going there during slow times only, to enjoy the view, or else go with people you love to sit and talk with regardless of service. It is only one or two people who care away from being a great place. Perhaps it will be when you go. Lets call it "beware but worth a try". read more

This is the main range I go to. 50 balls is $6 for non Stanford-related people ($5 for Stanford faculty/students). The mats are a couple years old and in pretty good shape. The balls are pretty nice and not scuffed/old. There are a lot of spots, except a few in the middle are kinda useless because the mats rest on uneven ground. When there is a class going on, the last 8-10 mats are used by students taking a lesson. There are plenty of targets to hit at. There is a tiny, lame putting green that no one every uses and no pitching area. If you want to use those, you have to drive up the hill towards the golf course... which I don't do since my short game doesn't need work. Hah. Anyway, this is a fun place to hit some golf balls after work. read more

If you are affiliated with the University, this is a great place to play. Conditions are great in late March and April when they prepare for the NCAA tournaments. The greens are solely bent grass, which makes for pure and true putts. This course rarely plays faster than 4 hours, no matter which day of the week you play. Don't expect to get around all 18 if you play twilight because pace is slow and the sprinklers start before sundown. read more

great bargain if you're a stanford affiliate. kind of expensive otherwise. for example, my husband has to pay over 100 bucks the first hole is cool because you hit your drive over junipero serra if you do the full 18, get a cart because the back 9 is very hilly. but if you do twilight and looking to get in 9 or so, walking is fine. the driving range is nearby and is decent and convenient if you're on campus. there's also a nice free putting/chipping practice area next to the first hole behind the tennis courts. read more

This is a nice driving range, open late and reasonably priced. However, only 2 stars because you can only hit off mats.

Nice driving range when you go when it is not busy it seems (we went around 9-10am). They only have mats and a few of them are on slanted ground so avoid those! The price is reasonable to Stanford and non-Stanford affiliates. However, I cannot comment much because this was my first time at a driving range, and I look forward to finding more ranges to practice on. read more

Good, not great, course, some interesting holes though the hole variation was not quite what I thought it would be. Some boring holes for sure. Conditions were decent but not truly private club quality, greens seemed somewhat chewed up and bumpy. Been driving by it for over a year, read the 5 star Yelp reviews and it has driving me crazy to get out on it. Maybe my expectations were too high, but it didn't inspire me. Holes towards the end of the back nine were the most interesting with some cool vistas and the flow of the back nine unveils itself more naturally than the front. The rough is deceptively wiry, play it back in the stance and don't expect to get full distance. Would it be great to able to play often for not much money as a student? Absolutely Not sure it is a course I would pay $100 or more if it were a public or resort course though. read more

Good targets, good grass to track the spin and roll off the bounce, the sun is at your back in the afternoon, and never problems hitting into the wind that you often have at the other nearby ranges. Unfortunately, they discriminate against us leftys by throwing us in the right end side of the tee mats. read more

This is probably the nicest range you're going to find. It's clean and the rates aren't that bad. See below for prices. Many many stalls. Saw Michelle Wie (and her parents) on the adjacent varsity driving range a couple of times a year or two ago. I think they moved the varsity driving range though. There's a putting green across the street next to the tennis courts. There's also a practice hole across Junipero Serra next to the Stanford Golf Course. You have to drive into the golf course and veer left instead of continuing onto the clubhouse. Both putting green and practice hole are free I believe. read more

This place is the place to be. It's a little hard to tell how far you can hit your tee shots if you've never been there but it was in great shape, great condition but can be a little difficult to walk I can imagine. It's hilly, and creates great scenery to golf to. If you get an opportunity to play it don't pass it up. read more

The range and accommodations are really nice. They recently rebuilt the range and clubhouse and did a very top notch job. It took them a while to get the little extras but once they did it became one of the nicest ranges around. Unfortunately they do not find a need to play to their customers. They used to have a range card that, for example, if you put $100 on it you would get $120 worth of balls. Now they do that only once a year. I recently talked to the person who manages the range and when I asked why they no longer did it on a regular basis the answer was they didn't need to. Why should they give their loyal customers a break when it wasn't necessary. They would lose money. I was also told that the software is to expensive and would not do what was needed. First, there are other ranges around that are able to give discounts (Mariner's Point) so the software does exist, at least in some form. Second, I'm sorry but this is Stanford University in the middle of Silicon Valley. You mean to tell me that this software doesn't exist or that Stanford could not design one to fit? Maybe, just maybe if you give a little you would get a lot back. It is called marketing. Come on Stanford!! Treat your "loyal" customers with the respect they deserve. read more

Absolutely 5-stars for students. I'm usually able to get in at least 14 holes during twilight hours. The best part is the twilight rate--thirteen dollars. The course is usually wide open during twilight hours too, even on the weekends. Stanford students, this is a must. read more

The Stanford Golf Course is a shadow of its former self, both in terms of desirability and the people. If you're looking for "The Farm" or the way Stanford was during the Watson years, forget it. There are a couple of things wrong with the course. First, the operation has taken on a cold and self absorbed ambiance. Except for the Black golf pro who looks a little like Charles Barkely, the staff is cold and distant. The operation has been taken over completely by corporate interests. Second, the parking lot is full of wannabees driving around in their Porches with moosed hair, over the counter sun glasses, packing two thousand dollar set of sticks, but they can't swing a club to save their life. This makes for long rounds, especially on the weekends. I saw one guy come all the way back from the 6th green back to the tee box looking for his headcover (walking in the middle of the fairway). Expect five and a half hour rounds on the weekends. Third, the third and fourth holes are rediculous, back to back par three's. They did this to accomodate the expansion of Willow Road and bikers needing a bike path. Totally ruined the original course. Fourth, the 10th hole Snack Shack is rarely open and they don't have enough cart girls that bring the special look. Stanford was never noted for sexy babes, but for chrissake bring it for some of us guys getting away from our wives on the weekend. Fifth, yeah there are some nice views and the course is well maintained, but, it's the only tract of land in Portola Valley that has anything to offer in terms of playing holes. Sharon is a fair course, Peninsual CC is ok, then you have to go to Olympic or all the way down to San Jose. Palo Alto Hills is a goat track, Half Moon Bay is a drive. The course is relatively easy if you keep the ball in play. There is only one really tough hole on the course, and that is the 12th hole, one handi par four. Sixth, the Club House even after its rennovation is the same. The food is average and overpriced, the beer is the same, and you have the feeling you just landed in Beijing. Other than that, Stanford GC is literally a nice walk in the park. Unfortunately, a lot of the earthers know this too and walk the course with their dogs in the late afternoon on the back nine during the summer months. read more

I've played here countless times. When I was a student, there was this Tiger guy that also played here 5 times a week and he was unbelievable. He could hit over the trees on 7 and hit it past the oak tree on 12 but was always polite and never hit into us! The course is as good as it gets as there are some long holes and some short but tricky ones (4 is the only exception and it used to be a narrow par 4), some uphill (always into the wind), some downhill, wicked 3 tiered greens, two evil oak trees on 12 (yes the second one that replaced the old tree that got hit by lightning grew) and the best view on the last hole. Alumni rates are a bit steep but I would play here anytime! read more
