No. Those places have lots of money. What Garden Grove library on Chapman has, is soul. I have been coming to this library on and off since 1969 When my family moved five miles from eastern Garden grove to mid-city. Mom brought my sister and I here every month as we grew. Then we would walk or bike here as adolescents.There were competitions to see who could read the most books over the summer. Library staff with fashion poster board with little fish that moved forward for each child competing. I don't think I ever won, but if you think about it, I did. I returned this month to get a library card. I was looking at ways to decrease the cost of life. I decided I was spending too much on audiobooks. Now I can access audiobooks and e-books for free. Love love love. The library staff used to support kid and grown up classes, but none I'm aware of since COVID. I miss the art classes. You'll run into your neighbors and make friends here. All gratis and wholesome as heck.

There is a small field next door & there is some sort of group that meets there & they take up the whole already small parking lot. Not family friendly as there are tons of homelesss people hanging out cussing at each other in the parking lot & smoking in front of the library (sign says no smoking within 20 ft). I took my 2 yr old for playtime that happens on Thursdays, I will not be taking him back. There are 3 rude ladies working the checkout counter at the front of the library & during the hour playtime there is no one supervising the children to mediate if children are fighting over toys or to make sure kids are being supervised by their caregiver. There was little girl that kept yanking toys out of my son's hands while her grandpa was sitting faraway scrolling on his phone. There is also an obnoxious large middle eastern man that takes his older son (even though the playtimes is for 0-5) & his son hogs the trucks & pulls them away from the toddlers & babies & runs around the whole perimeter of the library screaming (again no staff intervenes). When confronting dad he just shrugs and says "I can't do anything about it".

I was charged $10. I was mad as hell. I went back here, and one of the female staff members at the information desk was able to explain to me why this happens. She even showed me a sign as proof that this happens to a lot of people, not just me. Her kindness and professionalism quickly melted away my anger. I was thankful for her honesty and I left the library feeling much better. I was so close to writing a 1-star review. But thankfully the staff member was kind enough to explain this to me.

Even though this might sound crazy within those rooms they have more rooms. Just in the kids place there is a small computer room, storytelling room, quiet room, and outdoor area. In the middle of all these other rooms, they have a big wide open area where there are tables that kids can do arts and crafts, and they have tons of books . I didn't know this library existed, but my niece invited me to story time. I was speechless. This is going to sound crazy, but storytime was a blast! The person who did story time was amazing with all the children! She knew how to keep them engaged and had their full attention! She was very sweet as well! Thinking back to my younger years I don't ever remember a library being this amazing! Or nearly as cool! It literally felt like I was transported to a different world. Definitely will keep going to this library! I originally called on the phone and a lady told me yeah no problem coming in and you can get it but I guess she was wrong when I got here. Men at the front desk told me no there's about 1500 people waiting for the pass so I was a little letdown that she gave you wrong information . But then Mihn said hold on let me look and instead of just telling me NO ... Mihn went above and beyond he thoroughly searched every library in Orange County to see if anyone else had passes for like 20 minutes he looked trying to help me. He finally figured out a solution and was able to get a pass for me and I was so thankful since I'm on the trip tomorrow to go to a few national Forest park and was trying to save a few bucks. I think now it's now famous as the home of Elizabeth Taylor's 7th and last husband. The "City of Stanton" in a governmental sense wasn't bad. They provided a great library and Boys & Girls Club. My first play "California Suite" was at the Stanton Community Center. All of our potholders had come in the mail with the names of Stanton's councilmen and representatives. Did that happen everywhere or just Stanton? As a city, it's okay. I lived in Stanton for almost all of my pre-adult life. It was a quick bus ride to Huntington Beach (sometimes we rode our bikes the 12 miles), and a straight line to Disneyland, just five miles away, close enough that we could see the nightly fireworks that served as an unofficial curfew to come home. I attended Savannah and Mary Perez (both gone). For fun, we had a Golfland, Stanton Village Edwards, annual St. Polycarp festivals, trampoline basketball courts, and the unique Hobby City (now Adventure Land). Though we were regulars at an independent Mario's, the best places to eat in the late 70s were Sundowners (cafeteria style), Me & Ed's (especially after a game), and Pinnacle Peak, where they'd cut off your necktie and hang it, if you were stupid or silly enough to wear one. Like many California cities, it had become populated due to a railway. The LA Interurban ran straight from Watts to Santa Ana in 1905. I, too, would run straight from Watts. Named for LA assemblyman Philip Stanton, the rural area grew and was incorporated in 1911, and although it was then the largest city in OC, Anaheim had planned to use it as their "sewage farm". I think some of the seeds are still there. They dis-incorporated in 1924 to avoid the cost of road building, and re-incorporated in 1950s with the post-war population explosion. Around that time the railway no longer carried passengers, but became my shortcut to junior high. As of 2010, the population was 50% Hispanic, 23% Asian, and 22% white, with a median household of nearly 4 and an income of $51K. Though Safewise included Stanton in their seventh annual "California's 50 Safest Cities" report in 2021, the only time I was "mugged" was two boys taking my newspaper money. It was a little shadier back then. I think the guy running the Olympic torch down Katella (which I witness in 1984) was running a little faster than normal.

I had to call just to get my own student id because they were gonna forget it otherwise. They are so rude over the phone. The first guy blamed me for calling too early to speak to a general counselor, then when I told him that it said the time and I was there five minutes after, he said she was late. I told him I needed to speak to someone about enrolling, he told me that I have to speak to a generals counselor before I can even speak to a majors counselor. So, I went back to their little only chat and waited again. I spoke to her, told her I was doing a career change because I already have multiple degrees. I just wanted to do court reporting. She told me that going to private schools would be an issue because it's different. Okay... then she told me to speak to a major's counselor and to call back the other number because I needed more information. I called back, someone else answered and told me the majors counselor for court reporting wasn't in until the 17th. I said okay and I waited. Called in multiple times today, nobody answered. I go to their online chat, it took forever to speak to someone. They said I need to speak to a majors counselor, give me the link, and I wait more and NOBODY ANSWERS. I hate it here. I started calling and trying to reach someone around 10AM, it's not 11:45 and I still can't reach someone to help me. I have CalVet, which means I can go tuition free. I have my student ID. They keep telling me to just register, but I have no idea which classes to register into. I do not know if I need to transfer GE credits. I do not know how to connect my CalVet benefits to their school. I do not know anything about their process, other than they CLEARLY DO NOT WANT TO HELP ME ENROLL FULLY. It is the most frustrating experience knowing that I could start classes but I can't because nobody there can answer questions. I'm actually over it. If it's this challenging to start school, then my assumption is that they won't be much help when I'm actually fully enrolled and registered. I guess this is part of the reason why there's a shortage of court reporters in California -- because schools like this don't gaf about who wants in. Do not go here if you are a Veteran, spouse of a Veteran, or dependent of a Veteran.
