My first eye exam ever.... I don't know how other places really work other than I took my sister to her eye exam & it was at an actual eye doctor that dilated her eyes and all the bells and whistles were perfectly performed. So my partner & I arrived early for our appointments. My boyfriend has been going there for years... anyways first off the place is packed!!! The check in girl finally came to the check in counter after several minutes. Immediately says that they were an hour to hour and half behind because they "had been punched in the face all day" umm ok??? We had an appointment. AND a VERY important event planned for 2 hours after our scheduled appointment. We walked around for about an hour looking at frames waiting... only one person was sitting in the "waiting room" side... anyways I got my eye exam. I agreed to pay extra for a more comprehensive exam. The girl who came to get me wasn't very helpful or knowledgeable and she spoke so low that I couldn't even hear her hardly. I was seated in the outside of the eye exam rooms... yes there's two different kinds. I literally had a supposed eye doctor on a screen that I couldn't hardly hear. The girl who came to do the first part of the exam actually said we're not real eye doctors but we don't have to dilate your eyes and we're cheap so people keep coming back to us... ugh. Great! Long story but I really hope my exam was right, prescriptions were right! The guy who checked me and my boyfriend out was beyond more helpful than anyone else I personally encountered there and I love how committed he was to help me figure things out! I broke my glasses while vacationing in Asheville and panicked. Looked up my glasses repair and came across the name of the shop. When I walked in, I was greeted by staff and Leigh fixed my glasses in 10 minutes. It was truly a wonderful experience. There's no in-office doctor, it's telehealth only. They keep the cost of eye exams low by trying to bundle it with a purchase of contacts or eyeglasses so beware of that if you just came in for the exam it's $120. My brand of contacts was changed without discussion, I got my prescription back at the cash register and the doctor had changed my brand to another brand of contacts they sell. Kind of a scam. So, my old contacts used to last a month now they're daily and I can't afford them. They said if I wanted to change it back, I would need another appointment. Again, the doctor never told me he was changing the brand and I didn't see my prescription until they handed it to me at the cash register to pay. read more

Highly upset because I tried contacts and had a allergic reaction less than 24hrs, I had to go to urgent care because I had an eye infection and and abrasions on my eyes from the contacts I went back to them and they said I needed to see an optometrist that way they can see what happened, and that there isn't anything else they could do for me, because they said they don't have on one on site, and that I would have to go to another eye doctor, they did not give me my money, nor did I receive what I purchased, what's the point of trails if your going to hold people accountable for your lack of connection. They told me the eye exam is non refundable, but they never actually completed my eye exam, and I never received anything, and now I also have to go spend even more money just to actually have my eyes check by another optometrist which they should have! They also told me they accepted my insurance and then charged me full price AFTER they did my eye exam. This place robbed me blind, and is a complete scam! Don't go here!!!! Nightmare from the start. I was a few minutes late, and the woman was very snotty, and said take a seat, you are a walk in now. That's fine, and I understand that the lateness is my fault. There is no need to be rude. The whole place is unprofessional and had a strange odor. Th person checking my eyes, Jerrod, had a name tag that says he is a sales assistant. Ummm ok....then they take me to a room and pull up a video of a "doctor," that seemed like someone outsourced from another country. Why are they not telling people that there is no doctor here? He seemed to rush the exam. While flipping slides, I was uncomfortable that he was moving so quickly. Then, they tell me they don't accept my insurance. I found this sneaky and misleading. I had mentioned my insurance several times. A true medical doctors office asks for information at the beginning. They want to get your money. Next, I get a text that a pair of my glasses are ready. I will attach a photo of the text. It clearly states ready for pickup. I came in to pick them up. Let me preface this- I needed new glasses and contacts because my contacts were a few months old. I took them out immediately and threw them away, because it's not good to have old contacts. I asked my husband to drive m to pick up my new glasses. They all seem thoroughly confused as to why I believe my order is ready. Finally, Jerrod tells me he is sorry, that I wasn't supposed to receive that text, and he needs me to come back in an hour, because the "machine is broken" and he needs his manager to look at it. Ummmmm ok, that doesn't sound ok? You are making very complex astigmatism on a broken machine? We gave them 3 hours, ànd drove back. Jerrod seems like a sweet man but he does not seem knowledgable. I have never felt so humiliated like I did today at Stanton Optical on Patton Avenue-Asheville NC I have filed a formal complaint. I have been wearing prescription glasses since college 1994. Eyes typically change about every 3 years. My last eye exam was 2 years ago, and was prescribed bi-focals. I had lost them and hadn't been able to afford new glasses since them. Today I thought I would try and get seen as my eyes have progressively gotten worse during the past 2 years and haven't been able to afford real prescription glasses. I have insurance, but when they ( damien ) looked it up today he told me they were out of network, but I could get " cheap" ones with the blue tag. I know my eyes have been getting worse during the past 2 years, especially with distance. At night, end of day my eyes and vision are so blurred . So today,, I get after getting a virtual exam, they present me with my " new prescription". The numbers on the prescription did not seem correct to me. She tells me I only need readers and that my vision has gotten better. Are you kidding me? Are they really telling people this and selling glasses with sub par inaccurate prescriptions. 1st of all, my vision has gotten worse during the past 2 years, I know my vision capabilities and I know my body. I explain to her, that cannot be correct as I cannot see well especially with distance. So I say, " so you're telling me that my eyes have gotten better?", jokingly, she says yes. She did not seem to have answers to my questions. The only person there, that had great customer/human service was Ms. Dee, the technician. She was friendly and had a great professionalism about her. I said, well I disagree. I know my vision has gotten worse. One doesn't go from needing bi-focals to increasing vision. I am 62 years young. So then this Damian fella, stops what he is doing with another customer and interjects, stating, " well sometimes that happens", well, not in my case. I then proceed to take a picture of my prescription from 2 years ago, and the one today, as I will take it to somebody that can find the error and will have to seek out a real eye doctor to get help. I went there for help, for glasses a new prescription, I cannot see at night, I cannot see signs 50' in front of me. I have made multiple errors also in data entry. People age- and for a " optical " place to send someone out with a prescription for " readers" is not professional. I'm an educated woman and have worked at a top notch Eye Doctor in NYS and learned from him. I'm wondering how many others believe what is put in front of them? I'm an advocate for myself, I need glasses and will seek out my insurance to where I can find a reputable real eye doctor. I'm truly blown away by this careless mistake and low priorities on customer service. Thankfully there are cameras in the store. Was I discriminated against today because of my age? Why was I treated like this? Damian, then yells across ( it's on camera), " well we will have to bill you now since you took that picture. Nothing was said about finding the error they made, ( obviously as my vision has not gotten better), nothing about seeing the " optician again to make sure they got the numbers right. Damian's concern was me taking a picture of my records and billing me. Asheville recently went through a hurricane, and I would not have expected to be humiliated today like I was at Stanton Optical. Quality, helpful, knowledgeable staff. Virtual eye exam was easy to do. I had difficulty understanding the optician's instructions because his accent was difficult to understand. He was pleasant and readily repeated himself when asked to do so. Frame selection was convenient. Ordering the glasses and paying for them was easy. Beware the "$79.00 for 2" pair of glasses ad. The staff are knowledgeable , friendly and helpful when it comes to selecting frames and placing an order. I was never contacted once the order was ready to be picked up, necessitating a phone call to the store and being questioned by a "George Santos" personality as to my details. Perhaps this is just the new method of doing business in the first quarter of the twenty-first century... The fact that they were close by and accepted my insurance are the only pluses I can truly comment on. (Hence, the two stars... but let's face it, being friendly, knowledgeable and helpful is the bare minimum of the job description for the position in question so I was not impressed overall. ) What occurred when I went to retrieve my glasses beyond the gathering of my name was a fairly blunt "can you see?" from the associate after handing me my glasses and a bit of a disguised "huff" when I mentioned the glasses need to be a bit tighter to prevent them from slipping off of my face. Last time I came to Stanton (2 years ago), I saw a doctor and had an eye exam. This time, I showed up for my appointment and the store was not yet open. All the employees were driving in from OUT OF STATE because so many people had quit. It does not surprise me, however, as when I finally did get to have my "appointment" it was with a man with a heavy Eastern European accent who was obviously half way around the world calling in on a computer. The lens machine was automated, and I didn't really have a chance to see the chart I was supposed to be reading from because he changed the lenses very quickly. I do not have full confidence that my prescription is correct and I will be looking for an actual optometrist to get another prescription. The in-person staff were very nice and did the best they could in this hectic situation. One woman said they had multiple appointments double or TRIPLE booked. read more

I was given a new, very different contact lens prescription (even though I told them the old one was just fine) and after a few days of waiting for my eyes to adjust, I can tell this is a completely wrong prescription for me. I wasted $99 and waited forever even though I had an appointment. Plan to contact the NC Attorney General's office because there is no way they are a legitimate business. I'm a very unhappy customer. Purchased glasses a yr ago. They fell apart. I did not break or damage them. They fell apart at the stem because I was sold a 2015 discontinued frame. Because it was a discontinued frame to begin with, they had a challenge replacing them. Wanted me to purchase a whole new set of glasses. They would give me a discount, but my lenses were still good. Long story short, they found another discontinued frame that the lenses fit in ok and sold them to me without any warranty. The woman doing my virtual eye exam had a thick Indian accent, and was gently slurring all her words together while speaking quietly and very quickly. I had to take a moment each time she said something to process whether or not I had heard her correctly. This caused me to lag behind in the actions she wanted me to perform. Eventually she became angry at me for misunderstanding her and it culminated in her yelling at me. When I went in to pick up glasses (ended up being $550 for 2 pairs, how did that happen??) the prescription was wrong. I told the lady immediately and she said "give it a few days and your eyes will adjust" 3 days later still couldn't see so I returned. They acted like it was my fault. I messed up on the test they implied. Not once did they take responsibility, it was my error. So I took test again and sure enough it was different and I asked them to compare to the test I did 2 years ago and it was closer to that one. The test is not foul proof. Which is not good! It's more like a guessing game and hopefully it comes out correct. Then I wanted to change one pair of frames since they had to reorder. I asked the man with the neck tattoo if this certain pair was in different colors and he said "we went through this last time, I remember you. You asked me already about the colors. You were at it for a long time" he acted like I was being a pain to ask and I was inconveniencing him. First, he never helped me pick out frames last time, I never asked about colors. I took my time looking but I never asked for help. The worst part about this is that I went here because I needed glasses before I left the country. Now they won't come until after I leave and I have to have my husband pick up and then mail to me overseas. Needless to say, I will NEVER go back to this place. Terrible eye exam. I recently moved to Asheville from out of state and needed glasses for driving, as mine got lost somewhere along the way! The reviews were mixed, so I called to confirm pricing and how it works. From the moment I walked in, I was helped. Had to answer questions via tablet. Second step was to check vision, then a consult and checking right eye can you read, left eye, etc via zoom or something like that. I have no problem with this and if this keeps costs less, then I am okay with it. So, just be warned. Then time to pick out glasses and I walked away with two pairs one for reading and one for driving at their special price. This was the worst experience I have had in a long time. 1. Customer service was non-existent. 2. Eye exam was from a "doctor" from India on a tv screen, done remotely, which the prescription came back wrong. 3. Was told to give it a week for eyes to adjust, they did not because the prescription was wrong. 4. Did not receive a second pair of glasses for free. Was told it was because I picked out the most expensive pair. Not their promotion Of buy one get one. Was not communicated with that I got a discount because of only one pair. 5. when I ask for my money back I was told they would not refund the exam price, "per policy". They exam was the problem! I could not see out of the glasses! 6. Prices of glasses are hiked up to make it feel like you get a free pair. These $299 frames are $120 on Amazon. When I called the corporate number (from India), the customer service with them was not any better. Once again, good customer service will go a long way in bringing people back for repeat business and spreading word of mouth. Stanton changed to Telehealth doctors for eye exams. Just like the movie Idiocracy its all automated for lowest common demonitor crowd, there is one assistant that deals with exams but only takes you to the test chair and then a "doctor" will be up on a TV monitor , zoom style with bad audio administering the exam. The "doctor" will be controlling the eye test machine by switching lenses via a robotic lens machine. The doctor seem to be part of a call center as there was too much crowd noise in the background from other doctors asking the same questions over and over "lens A or lens B". Some in Spanish. This doctor had a thick accent and background noise was in Spanish so I don't think these doctors are from the same state. Maybe country? The assistant was overworked and the other person working the store was a sales rep. Basically 2 employees for the whole store with crowds of people waiting. Everyone Noticeably stressed. The online appointment system doesn't work and it's not connected to the store correctly so it's basically a walk-in by the point you arrive. the tests are $99 for both contacts and glasses. And you end up not knowing anything about your RX. For $99 it is a lot better to go to any of the local family own optometrist. Stanton was already fast and cheap before with.young doctors, but now it took a turn into overly-greedy , borderline illegal practice sort of place. Just skip it. read more

I'm not one to write a bad review but I feel like people should know. Granted this is my experience. I scheduled an appointment, arrived and was informed a computer would give me my exam. I was not informed of this til I arrived and since I have a complicated situation I always prefer an actual Dr. . I then rescheduled for today at a certain time but my scheduled time needed to change due to work. I called with more than a 24 hour notice to reschedule the time for a little earlier and never once I was informed it would be a computer appointment. I then arrived only to find the "Dr." was going to lunch. the staff member then told me I could come back at 2:30 in which I couldn't because I needed to be at work. I then asked to come in another day and was told the Dr. is only available on Wednesdays. The lack of quality, the inconvenience and inconsideration is not worth booking an appointment. read more

Very little about their system works well. The call center person relayed the wrong appointment time, so I missed my first one. I made an appointment in person the second time, and was asked to shout out my name and birthdate because the kiosk where they make appointments is so far from where the customer must stand. The receptionist at the back, who does intake, couldn't adequately explain a checkbox item in the waiver/agreement. The doctor failed to return my prescription glasses to me. To ascertain that they're safe, i've tried to call a number of times. They don't answer the phone. When the call center tried to connect me directly, they disconnected me by accident. The $89 exam fee does not include dilation, and the intake person forgot to explain that to me before the exam, but chased me down when I was paying the bill to have me sign some paper waiver form about that. Wow. Look at that photo. If you're going to insert a trial pair of contacts, you'll have to use this standing-wide-open bottle at a dirty-looking counter. Or is that someone's desk? Cardboard box stored underneath, too. The hand washing sink to the right looked neglected. This was early in their day--I'd hate to have to use it later on. read more

The staff was really friendly and the cost of exam was good. I had no idea my exam was going to be remote and that was weird at first, but he pretty much did what an onsite doc would do. My biggest complaint was the wait. I made a 9:30am appointment online to be the first person seen on Saturday, just so I wouldn't have a "Wait". Well...apparently they book a lot of people at 9:30 and it's first come first serve, so I was not actually seen until 10:07am. They should stagger people every 10 minutes, so the wait won't be so long. I did go to them about 4 years ago in Oregon and we waited 3.5 hours to be seen and get glasses ordered and temp contacts for my daughter. I thought maybe it was a fluke, but from what I read now, it's not. read more

This company only offers virtual optometry services. They do not inform you about this fact until they actually bring you in to the patient room. They will have you fill out 8 page form and sign your HIPPA agreements before they inform you. Deceptive business practices. Unprofessional. I was not informed by either the person who set my appointment, or by the receptionist who greeted me, that my appointment was going to be handled by a remote optometrist. Meaning, they would be connected to me by a webcam. There was no optometrist on site. They told me this was because their regular optometrist was on vacation. My wife then told me that she had the same experience at this store months previous. Reviews are full of people talking about these remote exams. They look like liars. I left without seeing the virtual optician. Skip this location. Better yet, skip Stanton altogether. read more

I went in two weeks ago for my yearly exam. I came here because I'm strapped for cash and it was cheaper than my normal eye doctor. Now I know why. There wasn't an actual eye doctor in the building. My exam was on a like zoom call with a doctor. I wasn't super confident about being able to see properly out of my left eye but the exam went very quickly and then was over. They ordered me some trial contacts while pressing me to just go ahead and order contacts from them. I have astigmatism so I wanted to try them first. It's been two weeks and I've called twice to check on them, but when you call you don't even get to talk to the people working at the store you were at, you're sent to a call center. My trials still haven't arrived, I'm nearly out of my contacts that are old. There is no way to complain anywhere. I'm now going to have to go to a different eye dr and get a new exam. Don't waste your time or money here. If the Stanton Optical people see this, I want my money back. I'm very disappointed in this business model. read more

As advertised I logged on to their site and booked an appointment for the next day. The entire process was very efficient and professional. You will be examined by an Dr. that is remote, but this is really a technical exam and I suspect it doesn't matter if they are in the room. The absolute WORST experience I have EVER had with an optician. Once you get past the rushed 4 machine "physical exam" .. 5 minutes at best .. including sliding into the second chair .. if there is anything wrong with your eyes .. Good luck .. because you won't be able to discern it there. The Dr will be by Zoom to give you the "eye chart test" .. unnerving, but I think you can get it done. Then wait for the glasses .. almost 2 weeks. The nightmare begins now .. I am seated and given my glasses .. then she walks away! The store is completely empty. She is over at a desk behind me with other employees.. talking, laughing .. can't be bothered with the customer trying to get her attention. My beloved hears me calling and HE calls to her as well .. FOUR times .. before she finally hears us. She walks over, I tell her they are too big, she takes them to a desk .. adjusts them and ONCE MORE .. just drops them off to me and leaves back to socialize .. because I clearly was not her priority. FAST FORWARD .. I am now about to return to Stanton Optical this SHODDY DEFECTIVE pair of glasses they couldn't be bothered to make sure fit to begin with. You can physically take the left lens and squeeze it together almost 3/4 of it's total length. The lens literally rocks that easily. I'm taking them back after filing this with my insurance company and upon returning, I will also be getting my full vision benefit back so I can go to a REPUTABLE COMPANY Say goodbye to United Healthcare System STANTON OPTICAL .. they happen to care about the quality of care and services their members get. read more
