PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING! I had the worst experience in coming here. My dog was not feeling well and I took him here because it is really close to me. They advised me to get a test done because he ate raw food that cost me $300 plus the rest of the medications that they asked me to get. I had a $25 voucher and they did not even take into account. The vet told me that it will take 24-48 hours for results, 2 days go by and I did not hear from them, so I called on Friday because it was going to be a 3 day weekend and the receptionist answers and as soon as I said that I'm waiting on test results she hangs up on me. I called again and she didn't even apologize for the hangup, I tell her that I am waiting on test results if I could speak to the vet. She says that "there are people that she is waiting on" not sure what that means, I asked when I can expect to get a call back, she literally kept saying the same thing like 4 times, no further explanation or interest in hearing why I wanted to speak to the vet. At the end of the call I was so frustrated because I did not get a time estimate or day estimate as to when she would call me back, and she did not know anything else but that the "vet was waiting on people". When I asked for her name she hung up AGAIN. I called Tuesday and again same receptionist, she says that the vet will call me back. The vet calls and as I start to explain to the vet that I was waiting for the results she cuts me off and asks me about my dogs stool, did not want to even listen to anything I had to say, she says that she tells everyone that the tests take 5-10 business days as to say that it's my fault that I'm calling again, SHE TOLD ME 24-48 HOURS otherwise I WOULD NOT HAVE PAID for the test, my dog was not doing well if she had said that I would not have paid $300 for tests that would take 10 days. She conveniently had the results and said that he was good and didn't have anything. (I don't even think they took the test). Don't let this place fool you with their low price quotes! We where nickel and dimed. We went in to get our rescue dog neutered and chipped and get shots. They gave us a low price and when we got him in they called and said he needed treatment for an ear infection, and we needed extra items for the infection, including a swab, cleaning, treatment with medication. Later we were told he also needed an extra shot because he was ill from surgery. The shot was to settle his stomach and it cost 50 dollars, so to put our dog more at ease we got it because he had suffered enough being a rescue. We were sent home with a free sample of flea medicine, and heart worm medicine but nothing for an ear infection. No other medicine. To be clear he didn't have fleas or heart worm they just said they threw it in there. We called to get the results of the ear swab and they said he never got a swab. They charged us $48 for a swab so we asked for our money back, we have a receipt so we thought there should be no problem, they said they couldn't do that, the manager would have call us back. Here we are over a month since the surgery and no one has been able to resolve this. We have a regular vet however they shut down due to Covid. We did research and decided to go to this place. I believe we were up charged and taken advantage of. We don't recommend going to this place and we tried to resolve it with a courteous few calls and now we are being ignored. Hidden gem! The staff and doctors are friendly, informative and cares for animals so much! After every visit, they call me to check in on our pets and see how they're doing. Since vet bills can get expensive, they do have different payment options and resources for low income families. They'll do everything in their power to do what's best for your pet. TL;DR: they give you poor explanations about your dog's condition, lag on any questions you have, and push for an insane amount of money to be spent. The one vet they have is an extremely irresponsible, childish and petty veterinarian that I hope I never have to speak to again. Wish I could give this hospital 0 stars but that sadly isn't an option. This had to have been the worst customer service I've EVER received from anywhere. I'm not really one to leave bad reviews but this one was definitely worth the time. To start off, this hospital is extremely short staffed with just one vet and one dog surgeon. Everyone else at the front desk can't really answer any questions about your dog's health, medicine or treatment. Probably due to the fact they're there only to schedule appointments. As a result, the only person that can discuss any medical conditions is the vet, who doesn't take it upon herself to call and check in, or even talk to you right after your dog's exam to go over how it went or what she found. She also has random days out of the office so expect long delays for a response from her - until then, you receive no feedback or answers to any questions you have. After my checkup she left the office and gave me no explanation on why she prescribed what she did and also how to proceed with my pet. She went MIA for a week, failing to mention to me that the medicine she gave my dog would make her deaf for a MONTH. Secondly, the itemized bill (which they were hesitant on giving me until i asked twice) was insane. They charged me for tons of things that I had no idea about. Before I approved for the exam I asked them if they prioritized any sort of treatment over the other, as i couldn't afford all of it. They just kept pushing for me to pay for everything. (over $800 of random words I didn't truly understand) Even now, I'm not even sure if I should have paid for what I ended up paying for, or even if the conditions they said my dog had were true. They convinced me everything was vital. When I brought her back they said my dog had way more things that she needed, and didn't give me any feedback on the other medicine they gave her. And finally, the petty vet. The vet is completely low on patience, rude and the least compassionate person I've ever encountered. When I finally got to ask her about the medicine my dog was given, after she left me in the dark, she blamed her other employees for HER lack of communication and told me she had nothing to do with it. The second time I took my dog in for the check up, she pushed for different random treatments over the phone, which led to me me to finally expressing my concern about how the vet wasn't being very clear. This got her angry I assume because she then told me to just pick up my dog and go somewhere else, and hung up right away. Once I arrived, she appeared annoyed and then thought it professional to say she was "older" than me and that I didn't know better. I lost my temper at this point and asked her why she wasn't being professional and got so upset by a question I had about all the different medicines she was pushing for. She became defensive about her title as a vet, although I never accused her of ever being a bad one (though in retrospect i wish i did) She told me I wasn't allowed to accuse her of anything (which i also didn't) then shut the door and stood away from me behind a GLASS door. A reaction I'm still so shocked about. When I tried to ask more questions about my dog's second checkup which she didn't care to explain, she just had her assistant next to her (who also doesn't know anything) walk over and attempt to answer my questions about how the second checkup even went. After minutes of being absolutely childish, she then told her assistant to tell me to call later. This involved her looking at me in the eye through the glass door, and nudging her assistant to go over and talk to me. All of this because I asked her why she wanted to do different treatment for my dog versus the other treatments they pushed for in the beginning.... lmao. I was almost brought to tears, she gave no care in the world for my dog's pain and had me pay hundreds of dollars for medicine that I still don't know helped or not. Taking my dog elsewhere now. Please don't waste your time. This place can at least be a little cheaper to compensate for how legitimately terrible it is. Unfortunately it's just expensive and crappy. read more

When I brought my lab into the Stanton Pet Hospital she was limping and and had a chronic severe ear infection. Even after numerous treatments from my current veterinarian she was still suffering from those issues. On the advice of a friend I decided to bring her to Stanton. it was the best medical decision I had ever made for her. During my consultation with Dr. Kavanagh, she explained a course of action and medical treatment very carefully so I could understand what was needed to help my dog remediate her issues. I was impressed with not only her professionalism, but with her ability to calm my anxieties. It was evident to me then that she had the resources and knowledge needed right there at her facility. Dr. Kavanagh proscribed just the right medications and arranged surgery for Kelsey's torn ligament. She is now on her way to recovery. Not only is Dr.Kavanagh dedicated to helping pet owners navigate their pets through thru all their medical needs, she is down-to-earth and compassionate, available to answer questions. I can't give enough praise for her staff! My recalcitrant pooch, do in part to her knee injury, is a challenge to remove from my vehicle. Those gals worked beyond the call of duty to get her 91lbs. out, once even to the extent of carrying her. What a struggle, done with a positive attitude! Another staff member made a great effort to find the right dog treats that would not exacerbate her allergies. All of them are friendly, personable, and helpful! So frustrated with Stanton Pet Hospital! I wish I would have read the reviews so I would have known not to ever bring my cat here! I initially went here because my cat needed to be neutered. They quoted me one price and when I get there they start to tell me my cat will be needing all these additional services. Which was annoying and misleading to begin with but fine, I paid. (should have known) Well about a week or two later I start to notice my cat would have these episodes almost as if he could not breathe. He would make these wheezing noises. So I contact Stanton Pet Hospital and they tell me I need to come in for a check up. They again, quote me one price over the phone then when I get there they charge me a complete different price. At this point, I should have known this place was a scam! But NOPE, they advise me my cat needs to take medication due to him having bronchitis (more money, they're making) and also, he has an "enlarged heart" They wanted me to pay this insane amount of money THAT I OBVIOUSLY DO NOT HAVE and once they realize they couldn't make any money off of me they tell me well let's just take care of his bronchitis first, my cat has been on medication since February and he still gets his episodes so I finally decided to call today and tried to explain what was going on and asked if there was anything else or suggestion they can offer me and the lady I spoke with was so rude!! She did not bother to ask for my name or take any of my information. I asked her if it were easier I could provide her with my information so she can search my pet up. She flat out said not. This lady did not bother to check my pets chart. The unprofessionalism of the staff is ridiculous. She did not take my information down and then proceeded to click on me so I call her back, I told her she clicked on me so that's when she then suddenly decides to ask for my information and (RUDELY) tells me someone would give me a call. We had taken my dog here to get spayed. The only reason we went to this location was because we had a voucher from the OCSPCA. This was about three months ago. The staff is friendly. However, we did not even meet the actual vet. We had only talked to the front desk receptionist (who is really awesome, by the way) and the nurse. The surgery itself went well.. So that I will thank Stanton Animal Hospital for. They had told me that my dog was aggressive towards them and that the vet recommended some behavioral classes. This made me a bit upset because this was the first time we have ever heard about my dog being "aggressive." She has never bitten a person or another animal (knocks on wood*). So that comment threw me off. My dog who is only a year old has always gotten excellent "report" cards from her regular vet (Sunny Mead Animal Hospital). She can be very skiddish amongst people she does not know, however, she had not shown aggression before. (She is scared of dogs smaller than her..heck, even a leaf being blown by the wind). She is a jack Russell mix so she is small-medium in size. I was not happy that they basically told me she had a problem and they were scared of her. At least that is what the vet and nurse said. The receptionist had no problem with my dog. So fast forward.. My dog had gotten sick this past two weeks. Since it was a Sunday we had to take her to the Oc Emergency pet hospital. Left her there for some fluid therapy. The doctor had recommended us to have a follow up with her regular vet so that we can take her home with a prescription of oral medications. Because her regular vet is all the way in riverside, we decided to go back to Stanton for the location convenience. When we came in my dog was barking as usual, but the receptionist was able to pet her and my dog even stretched up at her. When we went in to the exam room we had met the vet. Mind you, this is the first time we have ever even spoken to the vet. She comes into the exam room, doesn't let Luna sniff her and so Our dog gets scared. The doctor says "does she act like this around you guys all the time?" And my partner and I gave her a weird look and said no. We put a different haltee on our dog (it's one where it goes over her mouth so when she pulls, it pushes her nose down). The vet was going to check her heartbeat then immediately said "I am not comfortable. I need you to put the muzzle on" I was in shock. Our dog was barking but her tail was wagging. So we just decided to put the muzzle on and the vet made it extremely tight on our dog. Anyway she told us we needed to do more fluid therapy. It was going to cost us a lot less than at the emergency pet hospital of course, but we had just spent almost 2k for our dog. Plus the ER doctor told us she was improving and we just needed our primary vet to write us a prescription to take home. So we told the vet at staton this, and she told us she was going to call the ER doctor and find out. Few minutes later she comes back in saying that she had spoken to the ER vet (Dr. Rivera) and he claimed to not tell us we could take her home. I found this to be suspicious because they are not a 24hour ER. They close at 8am We had left at 7:30am. Our appointment at Stanton was around 1030. So I decided to cal the oc ER pet hospital to confirm this. Turns out he had left at 9am. It was 12by the time she had called. So I asked the front desk guy if we could get a hold of dr. Rivera. He told us he works graveyard so he is home sleeping by now since he had to be back by 6pm. The front desk told me all of the medical personnel had gone home and he isn't qualified to let us know or give further instructions but to wait until dr Rivera came back in at 6pm. So basically Dr. K. straight up lied to my partner and I about speaking to the ER doctor. I would give this place just one star, but the receptionist and the nurse are very understanding and sweet. read more

This review is long overdue. My dog was not feeling well one day so we decided to take him to this vet. Boy, what a mistake that was. The veterinarian was rough with our dog, too much for our comfort. She often cursed, which is quite unprofessional especially since this was our first time there, and to hear those words come out of her mouth were not very pleasant. She kept scheduling us appointment after appointment, the price increasing each time even with our discount from my mother's work. She prescribed us antibiotics for my dog and guess what, they were the wrong amount each time. We called and they told us to come in and get more, as in to pay and get more, not to get the correct amount she promised us. Some of the workers there did not know what they were doing. There were instances where we would ask a simple question via phone, due to COVID, and were abruptly hung up on. My parents and I spoke about this vet to each other and decided it was time to find another. I personally emailed the vet to get my dog's records and even then and there, they're picking and prying. No. Stop. Why must I answer all your questions when I simply want the results for tests I PAID FOR. I emailed them on May 8th asking for the files and didn't receive the files until May 20. I work an office job, I know you can literally pull the files from the cabinet next to you, scan them, and email it. These results weren't even recent, they were from February and they have shown us pictures of the results before upon picking up our dog. is none of your business. I will gladly take my dog elsewhere where he isn't treated aggressively and where we aren't scheduled unnecessary appointments that drain our wallets. The doctor doesn't care for their patients always recommending the most mundane things despite knowing the family's concern and financial issues. She will talk loudly very ill about you and your pet despite us being in the lobby.The receptionists are always apologizing regarding the doctors mistakes, pricing and dismissive personality regarding your pet. I usually come here for the low cost vaccines but I came here because my dog had diarrhea and threw up and wouldn't eat. My dog got Parvo tested and got an exam. They told me that the doctor recommended they do bloodwork and xrays and give her fluids and stay the night....all this was going to cost around 1500. I said no for them to just do bloodwork first and after that if something comes up we'll figure it out. We took our dog home and she was fine and eating like normal and back to her usual self (Still a little diarrhea) but nothing major. NO WAIT for drop offs and pick up is like an 10 minute wait. Of course, when they are busy you will have to wait just a bit more. I have referred ALL my TNR friends to this vet. Sylvia and her staff are wonderful. WONDERFUL! Also, the prices for vaccines are reasonable! Only 17.50 for a fvrcp shot! I used to pay $33 at this other vet. No TNR? No problem! This place is a scam, i got my dogs eye exam a month ago and i was given an ointment total was like about 300 i used the ointment for about four days lost it (my fault) so i came back to get a new prescription and they wanted to charge me the the same eye exam again like really. It was a good place at first but when they get greedy like this it's Frustrating and honestly when they scam like that you can tell they just greedy people. I have left this location i would highly recommend leaving before you get scammed as well. Doing some TNR work in the area and dropped off a kitty here. The staff were all incredibly friendly and obviously kind people. They were all smiles and very attentive (and this is a stray!) I brought my cat to get fixed, I was told I would get a call around 3pm to see when I can pick up my cat after surgery, never got a call. I call around 4 to see if I can pick him up and nobody answers the phone. I drive to go see what is going on and I'm told I can pick him up at 5:15pm. I told the lady that doesn't work I need to pick him up sooner, she says she's going to call the office and hangs up on me. Lady calls me back a minute later and says the desk is not answering, just to go ask them if I can pick him up early. I get there and I don't know the procedure of picking up my cat from there, thankfully a nice couple I had met in the morning told me to sign in because they will see me at the desk but wont talk to me. Then it takes them 45minutes to get me my paperwork and my cat. I'm all for waiting if I'm told what is going on. This place needs to have better communication skills amongst each other and with clients leaving their precious animals with them. read more

I most definitely do not recommend this vet, especially for euthanization. My 70 lb. german shepherd, (I had her for 14 years) was like my child. My kids grew up with her and she was part of our family. Due to a few different circumstances, we had to make one of the hardest decisions a pet owner will most likely have to make. After we paid the bill, which I thought was incredibly high, ( I couldn't really understand the invoice). Long story short. The vet came in the room explained the procedures and then without any hesitation gave my dog the first injection (the same as they give them before surgery). The vet didn't even give us a chance or even suggest that we lay her down so right away she fell over and my son caught her in his lap. It freaked me out to see her collapse like she did and I ran out of the room. It was one of the worse experiences of my life. My poor son was devastated.as well. Exactly 2 months later we had to say goodbye to our family cat. So few months back I took my dog in to get checked out. He had been constipated for a day or two and seeing he was struggling to go I felt like he need medical attention. I had no appointment so as a walk in I had to wait a few hours no big deal. So after 2 hours I finally got to see the doctor and ran some test on my dog. About 45 mins had passed and I hadn't heard anything back from the doctor but of the MAs had informed me that my dog had cancer and needed to be put down immediately as he was suffering. At that moment I felt my whole world caving in all around me. I broke down in tears the Dr. tells me the exact same thing as her medical assistant told me earlier they kept suggesting that I had a euthanize the dog right then and there and I kept telling them that I just couldn't do it, but they kept insisting, the doctor and the medical assistant were furious that I would not make a decision of putting down my dog so finally, I decided to take my dog home. Three days later, my dog was back to being normal so I set up an appointment with his regular veterinarian. His veterinarian started medication and fluids immediately told me that if my dog did not improve from where he was at at the moment that it could be possibly cancer, but in order to rule it out, he would do another blood test about a month or two later well long story short, my dog never had cancer And this is coming from three other veterinarians. Yes I understand that we all make mistakes, but if I would've gone through with putting down my dog come on hell no. Quite honestly they care more about cats than they do dogs because there was a similar situation with a cat and they were doing everything that they could to save that cats life and putting it down never came up, but when it came to my dog 45 minutes later they made up their mind that we had to put this dog down total bullshit I will be seeking legal actions against this doctor. read more

I wouldn't bring my pet back here for free!! Estimates are not honored. Things are always added and there is a processing fee to pay any bill, even with cash! The staff upsells at every turn. The vet is condescending. They won't give you copies of tests/xrays you pay for. Appointment times are not kept, even after several confirmations. Keep looking! The veterinarian here genuinely cares about animals that she will speak up for her animal clients when she needs too. She did with us, which I respect. However, she stated to me and assumed that I don't love my cat as my child or that I will not go as far as I would with my human patients as a nurse. That was offending. My animals are my family and they are my children. And if I need to, I would go as far as I would to make sure that they arent hurting. Dr. K here criticized me for questioning the need for additional diagnostic tests. I wanted to take it one step at a time because I was being honest about our personal financial situation. If we don't have the money to pay for all these tests because we don't make very much in a month, it should be understandable. I think a good vet would be willing to work with that understanding that we still want the best for our pet, but are limited. Especially if the total cost is over $250. This vet loves animals but has little love and sympathy for the owners who care for them. My husband and I left without any services from her and will go back to receive care from our regular VCA veterinarian who understands, explains, and is willing to work with the owners in better caring for the animal. And at least the VCA vet has some idea of what our animal might have through a simple examination. In our case, our cat had a swollen minor pink colored eye which ended up just being conjunctivitis.. turned out that we didn't even need the extra diagnostic tests Dr. K wanted here. read more

If you love your pet then please do not ever take them here. They were all rude, long wait time, unorganized and treated my dog horribly. They claimed he was "aggressive," however, I've taken him to other vets who have all said he is great and just need time and patience. To top it off, they constantly wanted my dog on sedatives anytime he was going to go to their office. They rescheduled my dogs appt multiple times, once while I was waiting in the parking lot! There is a huge disconnect with the vet and her staff. They were saying one thing and the vet told us another. The final straw was when the office assured me that my dog was going to be seen at 9:30 am. I took him exactly at that time and they didn't even see him until almost 12pm. Don't even get me started on the way they handled my pet. Please don't give them your business! read more

This place is horrible. I brought my cats in for a exam and to be spayed in sept and everything was great. Made a appointment for my dog to get a exam so I could get flea meds and asked about my cats. They told me that since the cats had a exam within the last year that they didn't need to come in. I show up with my dog and ask about the prescription for my cats and I'm told nope that I need to schedule a exam for them. Guess they just want the money for the exam. At the end of the exam for my dog which took over two hours even though I was the first appointment after lunch they told me that my exam is good for a year for my dog. I had to laugh and ask what about my cats why isn't that one good for a year and they had no answer. They say that the exam needs to be for flea meds, I guess the exam to get ready for a surgery is less of a exam then for flea meds. Called another vets office and they laughed when I told them this. And when the vet finally came in to talk to me she was rude, like I was inconveniencing her by being there. Well don't worry cause I won't be returning. read more

What's the point of making an appointment when staff, nor the vet, have any interest or intention of honoring it? Bailed upon waiting over an hour trying to help my elderly mom have her kitty's stitches removed for a follow up 11:30am appointment. I could understand if there was an emergency but that was not the case. The level of inconsiderateness for my mom's and my time, and lack of concern for her cat (who was totally stressing) leaves me less than willing to ever bring another animal here, especially after gouging my mom $500 for a few stitches. Dr. Kavanaugh is completely unprofessional. Save yourself the trouble and choose a different veterinarian. I know this is a lengthy review, but it's worth the read. We came into this hospital as a new client for my 7 year old dog who was urinating blood. I had an appointment and it took almost an hour for me to be seen, and an additional 2 hours for them to draw blood and ATTEMPT to get a urine sample. The nurse came out and mentioned they were not able to get a urine sample and she would need to stay overnight. I was told I would get a call at 11am the next day with an update and no one called. I called at 12 for an update and the mentioned they still have not gotten a urine sample. I then called at 3 for an update, and no one answered. Around 4 I needed to know what time to pick up my dog because I would need to leave work early. Then they finally called me back at 4:30 to tell me that she is ready to be picked up. When picking her up, the vet went through her x-rays with me and started pointing out potential skeletal issues that may be an issue when my dog gets older. And pointing out her intestines were filled with gas and we should switch to a medicated (expensive) dog food. When we initially came in to discuss why there is blood in her urine. To me, it seemed like she was exaggerating issues in order for us to spend more money and avoiding the real issue of why we came in the first place. My husband and mother in law went in the next day to review the blood test results. Dr. Kavanaugh immediately wanted to do an ultra sound costing $410 when we had already spent almost $1k on her other testing/medication/etc. She wanted to see if any other organs were affected. Other than peeing blood our dog is in great health, great bones, no pain and acting completely normal. And all the other blood work for her organs came back normal. So understand why we would question having the ultrasound. As soon as my mother in law and husband started to be inquisitive and ask questions, Dr. K became very defensive. While reading the test results she almost seemed to hide them and flip them over when someone got to close to read them. Things then escalated and Dr. K stormed out the office and asked them to go to a different doctor. We were provided with the test results but she wouldn't provide us with the x-rays. Stating she would send them to whatever vet we decide to go to. I think Dr. Kavanaugh saw a young married couple and took advantage of our lack of experience with medical issues in our dog in order to make more money. Once she realized we were doing our research and asking the right questions, she panicked and got defensive. read more
