I've had a horrible experience with one of the managers here. The online stock said a game was in stock but the manager just refused to go in the back to grab the game. He proceeds to lie and tells me he sold multiple copies the day before. I dont get the embellishing part? I was actually there the previous day but forgot a coupon so I decided to return the next day. There was only one copy of the game they brought out for me and it was still in stock but this weird man on a power trip just wouldn't get the game for me. He was obviously upset because he was called over from the shipping department. Despite the lying manager, I'm not giving this place one star because I'm here regularly and there are some amazing employees who go out of their way. They also deal with alot of crap from Karen's and actual crazy people. I also haven't seen pants on fire manager in a while. I've witnessed alot of towing here but they seem warranted if you park here and run over to the next door plaza. It's kind of a regular occurrence, already seen 3 towing on seperate occasions. In chicago on 7/25/2025 I was visiting from out of state along with four of my family members. We went to store # 1606, 1130 S. Canal st , chicago ill 60607 to print off some papers and a photo. We attempted to manage this independently are were unsuccessful. We reached out to the employee at the photo desk who gave brief answers to our questions but appeared to be very busy, we needed additional help. A second employee walked by with the tag name Jason ( assistant manager). He provided instruction as if our questions were a nuisance, he was sarcastic, insulting and condescending as if talking to a kindgardener. He was unfriendly and sounded irritated.After he walked away we were still not able to complete the task and decided to head to CVS or Walgreens where i had alway been treated respectfully. As we headed out the door i stopped to ask Jason for the name of the manager and was told that he was the manager and my responce was no you are the assistant manager and i am seeking the name of your manager. He told me it was Ronnie Anderson and that he was not available. He then asked if there was there a problem and i said yes and walked out. I do not have a thin skin but this man was as rude as they come. Clearly he has no concept of good customer service and how to promote the brand. So I placed a few items for pick up. After a few days I received notification that one item was out of stock, and the other was then available for pick up. Well by the time that I finally made it into the store I was told by the associate that she could not find my order in the system and that it was probably canceled because I may have waited too long to pick it up. Understandable. But after a few weeks I noticed that the charge was still on my card. So when I called customer service to get a refund on an item that I never received, I was told that they had to contact the store first to ensure that the item was never picked up. The store told customer service that I DID pick it up. Lol. Get your sh*t together guys. So now I've been on the phone with customer service for 30 mins for something that should've been an easy fix, but due to the negligence of this store it has taken longer than it should have to get my refund. Moral of the story, be careful when placing pick up orders here and make SURE that you get a refund if you end up not getting your order/or if it gets canceled. read more

5/28 Sunday I bought a chair and had it assembled for pick up. The woman who assembled the chair was fantastic as well as very nice. PLEASE Read: Towing Company Scam & Pre-records you!!! Was expecting to shop at 1130 S Canal St. Chicago, IL. My girlfriend and I were looking for office chair mats and felt pads here. We had something to return at another retailer next door. We were gone not even 5mins and our car was towed within that timeframe. We walked into the Staples store and asked if our car was towed. The cashier turned a premade sign around and just said, "Call the number." We called to find out that because we left the premise of the store, our car was towed. We went to the tow shop, which was 20mins away. Once there, I asked the towing company for video proof of why my car was towed. I was shown a video that was recorded on the iPhone of the towing company person. This video was already recording me and my girlfriend coming into the Staples lot before my car was even fully parked into our spot and us getting out of our doors. Extremely uncomfortable that Staples has a partnership with a towing company that is pre-recording its customers even before they fully park their cars. For all the towing company knows, I could have went into the Staples first and been a frequent customer. This experience has made me realize that this Staples location is running a parking scam (see other reviews below) and I wish I knew that prior to considering spending money there. The towing company also wrote on the report that I had "dents & scratches all over my car" (which is not the case at all) to protect themselves for any damages they could cause while towing. I understand that parking lots must be monitored but to see myself pre-recorded by your towing company makes me feel really uncomfortable. READ BEFORE GOING INTO A NIGHTMARE: Just left this Staples here at Roosevelt and Canal, to begin the first star is going to the mature blonde woman named Gail. She was professional, kind and flexible working with my boyfriend. When he entered she greeted, she understood that he wasn't that tech savvy, and was very patient and personable. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the other two staff members behind the counter. The younger young lady with a red T-shirt on was not personable, omitted a greeting and instead asked me what I wanted quite offensively. She was very dismissive with my partners request for printing service. Not sure if it is unfortunately a generational misstep or just an overall reboot of customer service training in need. However she was outdone by the larger gentleman working behind the counter in a gray T-shirt. Not only was he out of his way rude, full on dismissive, but upon greeting him and asking his name as I thought I would be leaving a good review was very rude and belligerent and told me that he was too busy to speak to me even though when he felt like it he responded with a sharp and very unprofessional tongue. I understand that in the realm of the service industry it can get difficult when you are on hourly pay as opposed to commission, however these are the jobs that we all should be grateful for during these times and as somebody who is also in service I make sure to go out of my way because I know I chose this job however the people coming into the business had no other choice than where they went, and a lot of the times are depending on me to be the a pitta me of professionalism. Unfortunately I did not receive this from these two staff employees and I do recommend that they look to Gail to receive better training and education when it comes to proper client retention and service. My other two stars my previous large event prints with MAPLE AND ASH, FOX, and SHOWTIME. Staples is great for the incredible competitive prices that offered, as well as awesome and very easy to use online service. Bad customer services is the skeleton of this review. Bullshit, sneaky advertising is the meat! We came here because of an ad on their website, which said if you recycle "any printer" they'd give you $50 off of a new one, as long as you purchased it that day, in that store, and as long as it was $199 or more. I thought, "That's great! I get to recycle, and I get a discount!" So, before making the trip, I called to verify. I asked lots of questions, and the associate gave me the green light, confirming that everything was true. I had two HP inkjet printers just sitting around, and I needed to free up office space. I also wanted to upgrade the one I currently use, so it seemed like a great deal. Instead of throwing them in the dumpster, I wanted to recycle them, and the store can make a profit on refurbishing these used ones. Win! Win! Right? It turns out I was wrong! We learned this after loading the printers into my vehicle and driving to the store. A bearded guy named Ryne, told me that this deal was not even offered. He searched in a binder and couldn't find it. So, I located the ad on my phone and showed him. So, he had me wait as he disappeared, then came back and still basically told me no. He said that offer expired six years ago, as he zoomed in to show me the fine print. I asked him if he could honor it, as it was still posted. He said, "Not for that long ago." I was like, "Then why is it still on your website?" He then denied that it was on their website, because he couldn't find it on the store's computer, even though he was holding my phone! He said I must have found it on "Google." WTF? Yes, I did! Isn't that where most people find shit!? My search led to THEIR website. It clearly says, "www.staples.com/..." So, since I was going to trash these printers, I asked if I could still recycle them. He said it was okay, but then instead of calling an associate over to me (the customer), Ryne had me walk around the store to find "Christopher." Again, WTF? Christopher agreed to help out, but said he was going to grab a cart and asked us to wait by the door. Sure. Okay. No problem. So, we waited, and waited, and waited, and finally some other guy shows up. He takes them off of our hands, and I thanked him. Despite all of this, I was still willing to buy a new printer there. Ryne said he would show me the various models. So, we went over to the printer aisle and looked at many models, read the specs, touched them, but because they didn't have paper, you couldn't test them out. We looked around for help, but again, we waited, and waited, and waited... Nothing! Nobody helped us. Usually, you're hounded in places like these! So, if my money is not wanted here, then I'll happily take my business elsewhere. They don't honor their ads. Apparently they don't remove six year old ads. They use cleaver language and fine print. I won't elaborate but after expressing my frustration with my customer experience to the associate I was met with attitude and absolutely no apology. After going to the manager, I still received no apology or effort to rectify the situation. Just "I'll go talk to him." Mind blowing how bad the "customer service" was. Usually staples treats me good but I highly recommend skipping this location and going downtown or anywhere else (even fed ex express is better and they always have lines) . I have come here twice now and both have me upset. My latest experience I came to print a resume and they said I had to place the order ahead of time. However, in the past, I have come to the counter and they have orienteering. I got over that minor issue but it became worse. I was waiting in line And they redirected me to a line that closed and then I had to get back into line all over again. They could just use some organization and friendlier staff. What is it about me and office supply stores? Something about them in general and this Staples in particular make me wax poetic about paper clips and white out. I know, how odd. Is it the row upon row of paper and pencils and markers that take me back to that first day of school? Or the home office furniture that makes me long to work from home doing nothing but writing prose all day? Or maybe it's the briefcase aisle where I can sling briefcases over my shoulder to my heart's content and take imaginary computers in and out of the bag to see which one is the fastest release as I stand at the airport? Whatever the reason, Staples usually has what I need. At this particular location, I was successful in my quest for a new briefcase and a friend found a new home computer desk. They even have cold water and snacks for purchase up front (see others must spend a lot of time in here as well if they offer up refreshments!). The cashier was quick in getting us out of there as we did have a bit of a delay in trying to find the right computer desk in the warehouse. I was also a bit surprised that no one helped us out with the purchase other than to allow us to use their cart to get it out to the parking lot. I mean, this thing was bulky and heavy. But we managed and since they have their own parking lot I just backed up to the door and we loaded it in the car with no issues. I don't often have the chance to wander aimlessly through office supply stores- after all, at work, it is all ordered on line and boxes of whatever I need are at my disposal each and every work day. Waste of time coming here. Needed to print in colour some documents and have them spiral bounded. Checked online -- total was approximately $35 (for 86 paged, 24lbs stock, colour, spiral bound, clear front and back cover). Since I wasn't familiar with the print services decided to come into store for help to ensure the project was finished exactly as I wanted. Went in around 4pm on Sunday. Went to print center and was directed to self print station. Asked the sales associate if she could help me she said no it would cost double than if I were to do it myself. I asked if I printed my document if she could do the spiral binding she said sure. While I was fiddling with the self print section she came up to me and asked if I could come in tomorrow instead cause she'd rather do the binding tomorrow. I told her that I was unable to do it and she sighed and went to sit behind the counter and talk to a colleague and play with her phone. Realized printing in-store was $53 for just the 86 pages not including binding and the cover pages. Asked if she could price match the price advertised online and she laughed and told me that the price was the price the printer said and if I wanted it for $35 to order online and pick it up tomorrow. I asked her if they could price match the price online to get the item completed while I was in-store to save myself a trip and she said no. She went back to talking with her coworker. Saw the price match guarantee sign on my way out the door but at this point I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere and no help was being provided despite asking. Left disappointed and felt like I wasted my time. Sales associate wasn't very helpful and kept pushing me to return next day to complete my project despite not having any other clients and a couple hours until closing. My supervisor accidentally sent ALL of my supplies to this Staples and instead of returning to sender, they graciously held onto the boxes for me! I was able to retrieve all of them, though there was some miscommunication on how many boxes were there. One of the employees even helped me load the boxes into my car!
