Geek alert! Geek alert! I love office supplies. Seriously, I walk into places like Staples and could spend hours and hours geeking out over stuff that I want, but really don't need. So, what's a girl with a new job to do? Buy things for my new desk, natch! Sure, I know my new employer will provide the basics for free - but when it comes to writing utensils I am uber picky, so I had to get my own preferred brand of pens and pencils, in addition to a notebook or two to take notes on all things related to earning my shiny new paycheck. Staples has a fantastic selection - for some reason I have a hard time finding the pens I like, yet at Staples I can get them in just about every color known to man, and if I wanted black ink I could even buy them in bulk. Score! Their employees are friendly and generally fantastic, and were very attentive to the growing line and quick to open another register. This ex-retail manager was *loving* the fact that they were aware and on top of things. Sigh. Oh Staples. You are SO my happy place. read more

Worst customer service ever. You'd think the employees have no idea that they work at Staples.. It seems as if you woke them up from a drunken stooper, and they're pissed off at you. Second, you check online for stock IN THIS STORE, drive all the way there only to have some manager tell you they don't have it. Which in 3 cases hasn't been true - they were just too lazy to walk the 30 feet over to the shelf and help you. I love Staples. It is my go to office supply store. But this location is going downhill fast It is very disorganized. Why are bound notebooks in three different aisles? Why are day planners in three places? Why are business card holders in four places? The front displays by the door are always tossed about, no one fixes them up, they just leave everything a mess. Every time I go in this store, I have to climb around ladders left in the aisle or carts packed with boxes to go on the shelves left in aisles. The check out counters are in packed with crap that is not displayed well. And the last time I went, I asked a worker in an aisle for assistance. I was standing two inches away from him. I said "Excuse me, sir." No response. Again I said "Excuse me, Sir." No response. I thought okay, maybe he is hearing impaired. So I said it again and lightly touched his arm. The worker turned towards with a look of shear anger at the fact I touched him. I asked him my question and he answered me with much disdain. He was not hearing impaired, he was ignoring me! And during this trip we were buying ink. A sign in the ink aisle said "Buy 50 dollars in ink get 10 dollars back." When we got to the checkout my husband asked if we could have the 10 dollars off our bill or were they going to give us a gift card. The clerk flippantly said, "Oh that promotion expired days ago." He promptly went into the aisle and gave her the sign. At least we fought and got the 10 bucks back. This store needs a new manager, clean up this store! read more

I'm never coming back to this Staples, especially the copy/print center. I went to go get my Step 1 FirstAid (basically the BIBLE for most medical students in their board examination studies) unbounded so I can 3-hole punch it and stick it in a binder. The guy at the copy station did such a sloppy job and then gave me such nonchalant attitude, I wanted to throw the mega 3-hole punch at him. First, he cut off the spine lopsided so when he gave me my book with its chopped off spine (it was a freakin' WEDGE) I gaped at it and point it out. He apathetically said, "it'll be all right." Um, no. This is MY book that I've annotated, MY book that I'm using as a major tool to study. You don't tell me that this deformity you've caused will be "all right." I then took another look with a huge sinking feeling (hey, I'm a med student taking my boards soon, I can afford to be a little dramatic) and started, "I'm sorry but my book.." the guy cut me off and said, "you're sorry for what? you don't want to pay? then fine don't pay." Wow. Tables unexpectedly turned. Fine, I don't pay, I don't care, it's only $2.50 but still, it's the principle of it all. I can never get my book back. Unacceptable. It's unbelievable the incompetence and unprofessionalism some workers have. read more

They won me over for the past six months, but I'll have to give the new Office Max a try across the street. Staples as a chain is great as you might know. However, let's be location specific. Some of the employees try hard to help you out. That's cool, but I personally don't need too much help picking out printer paper or office supplies. The big knock at this location would be their print/copy center. You'll be gambling if you are doing anything more than xerox copying something. I've had them direct print a bunch of PDF files on their color printer behind the counter and printed over 20 jobs at this joint. I've personally only had a couple of problems, but they were normal 8 1/2" x 11" brochures. However, there is always another customer complaining. Someone had a messed up ink stamper created for them. Some ladies had a scuffed large format poster that the employee suggested to "put whiteout" on. The color printer is messed up... blah blah blah. What am I talking about? These are problems at every print/copy place around here. At least at Staples color copies are only 39 cents... for now! read more

I ordered business cards for same-day delivery, and I ordered them after 2 pm, meaning that I understood they'd be ready the next day. I wanted them for a conference I was attending the following evening, and was sure that if you order business cards before 2 pm and can get them within 6 hours, surely ordering them after 2 pm would mean that I could expect them by at least 5 pm the following day. Not so, apparently. Not only did I not have them in time for my event, but I still haven't heard anything from Staples (it's been nearly two days). I keep being put on hold for multiple minutes when I try to call the store, and according to the website in which I entered my order number, the business cards are still not ready. The store isn't close enough for me to go over there without being sure. Some of this may just be problematic practices at Staples in general, but the fact that I literally don't know if my order is ready and can't find out to save my life is making me doubt I'll ever order from Staples again. read more

Plus, the best thing is that theres always something on sale there! And they have great rebate offers. But I have been there once where they didn't have printer cables that weren't like $60 or something.....wound up going to Radio Shack and got it for $15. In a big city like Chicago, you can order office supplies online and have them delivered to your door within a day. I think in order to keep the customers coming to brick-and-mortar locations they have to provide something - specifically, good service, good product displays, knowledgeabe staff, and a large selection of in-stock items. I don't think this location meets any of those criteia. They offer absolutely no reason to actually go the store. The staff that I dealt with weren't overly friendly and didn't know the first thing about the products that I asked about. No need to go back - I'll do my research at Amazon and buy online. read more

The people who work at this Staples are extremely helpful. I wanted to order something that was out of stock and two staff members spent an hour or so trying to help me find what I was looking for. They called lots of other Staples stores for me. In the end, we found out that the item was out of stock throughout the country and there was no way to order it. Anyway, the people were very helpful and seemed to be happy working there. I highly recommend this particular Staples if you need an item right away and can't wait for it to be delivered. read more

Avoid this store with terrible customer service. I ordered and item for in store pick up. It arrived Tuesday for pick up. Called the store on Friday asking if I can pick it up on Monday. Lady than answered the phone checked with supervisor and said yes you have until Tuesday (one week) to pick it up. Got an email on Monday saying order was cancelled. I've ordered a banner in the past via email and absolutely loved the fast service. Today I couldn't prepare for an online order and had to go into the store. Ricardo was going to kill me initially . Very good customer service at the copy and print center. We made 9 custom 5x7 frames that weren't exactly 5x7 from some old wood that had sentimental value. We went to the print center and they printed out several sized photos until we got one that fit perfect in our not quite 5x7 frames. It turned out really well and the ladies were super friendly. You couldn't ask for much more really. read more

The printing part of this store is the worst. I came one to print some stuff and asked for help and they guy who helped me was not really trained on how to use the copy machine properly so I have to figured out myself, which I did and that was fine. I came in a second time today 30 minutes before closing and asked them if they can print a poster for me and they say no we can't today, I asked the guy why? And he told that section is closed already... so my question where is this schedule posted ? I checked in the store and there was not schedule for the printing service, so I was really confused about it. On top of that another staples guys came laughing at my request... he told the first guy hehehe we are absolutely to close. I don't think I am coming back to this store never again. read more

I've never had a great experience here. The customer service, especially at check-out, is normally pretty dismal. Lines are long, and employees often just leave their posts. On the plus side, they do have pretty much whatever you would need, except good service, which counts for a lot. read more

I came in here expecting bad service from the yelp reviews. I had William (Will) at the service station help me with my laminations. He greeted me with a nice smile and told me to come back in 10 mins. I browsed around the sales section and was about to find some cute magnetics that I probably didn't need but I was in a good mood. Will was so helpful and friendly that it literally made my day. He offered to cut my laminations for free and did such a great job at it. We had a brief conversation about him not having his coffee so after the service, I went to Starbucks across the street and wanted to thank him by making his day a little better. I was at this Staples location on South Canal Street in Chicago today at 8:45 pm, asked some help from two very nice sales people (2 young men), but by the time I got to the check out the lady at the check out had closed the cash register already. It was 9:02pm., I thought the cashier were supposed to check if there still were people inside the store before closing the cash register. I want to be clear that as soon as I heard "the store is now closed" I headed to check out to pay. The boys who helped me pick what I was looking for were in shock. It is totally ridiculous. I am 62 years old and something like that had never happened to me before. But that is ok, I can always buy from Amazon. The whole problem is really the tone the person used to inform me that she could not allow me to pay for the supplies I wanted to buy. People are not humble anymore. They are not honest at heart to show appreciation for a client. This city of Chicago is the WORST in terms of kindness. I have been buying at this branch since 2010. Shame I cant give 0 stars. I have been to the store a few times, after 2 other stores closer to me where closed down... ordered some print jobs, and it always just ok. Yesterday I ordered 2 large banners for pick up. Placed my order in the am, to make sure I'd be able to get it by end of day. At 5.17pm I finally receive the phone call that half of my order was ready, and the other half wouldn't be becasue they ran out of the material I wanted. The store closed at 5.30. What are my options I asked...basically there are none, but I could come and get the second half of my order on Wed OR Thursday. So they waited all day to let me know that they couldn't print what I had ordered. I was left with no options and and no way to contact any other print shop. What a joke. No wonder Staples stores are closing left and right. They are useless and SO unreliable. Will be happy to pay more for more reliable service and drop all Staples business. read more

I placed my order on 30 Sept for pick-up on 2 Oct. When I arrived at the store, the wait time to speak with a staff member at the Print Copy Center was around 11 minutes. After checking in with the staff to pick-up my order, I immediately noticed that my 6 presentations were banded into two presentations and inserted backwards, meaning three 21-page presentations were bound together with the pages in reverse. I immediately explained my frustration with the lack of accuracy and careless oversight on my print job. The individual assisting me agreed to run the job again if I could wait 30 mins, which I agreed too. I informed the staff member that I would walk across the street to Wholefoods to purchase a couple of items ahead of my business trip to Michigan. When I returned after 20 mins or so, I noticed my car was missing from the parking lot. Entering the store, I asked the front cashier if I could speak with a manager, after a few minutes, she greeted me and asked what she could assist me with, where I told her my car was missing. She asked me if I left the store parking lot, in which I told her that since the Print Copy Center screwed up my online order and it would take 30 mins to rerun, I told the Print Copy Staff member that I would head across the street to Wholefoods to pick up a few items verse waiting in the store. She explained that the store contracts with a local towing company and that my car was probably towed as soon as I left the store. At this point, I am having difficulty controlling my irritation as the only reason I left the store parking lot was that the Print Copy Center messed up my online order and I was not going to sit in her store and waste my time waiting for them to rerun a job I submitted online 2 days ago. The Store Manger walked over to the Print Copy Staff member who was rerunning my print job to collaborate my story, after which she changed her demeanor and told me she would contact the towing company to have them return my car, but she insisted that there were no guarantees that I would get it back. With absolutely zero control over the situation, I put the minimal amount of blind trust into the store manager and went back to the Print Copy staff member to review the 2nd running of my print job. Astonishing, it was run wrong again, this time I received 6 presentations in the right page order, but the pages were head to head when I specifically requested head to toe. At this point, I don't have a vehicle, I don't have my presentations, and it looks like Staples is going to run my order a 3rd time... Seriously?!? I waited another 45 mins for the Store Manager to work with the towing company to have them return my car. As I am waiting in the store, I review the 3rd print job, which was run in the right order and in head to toe format, however the binding and back cover were black, where I specifically requested blue with the online order. At this point, I have lost 2 hours of my life (and my car) and decided to give up verse waiting another 30 mins to have the Print Copy Center run the job a 4th time. The Print Copy Center staff member did offer to give me the presentations for free, but honestly, I would have gladly paid if they were done the first time as specified and to not have the store tow my car because I left the parking lot. I will never visit this store again and my view of Staples in general, to include the brand, has been irreparability damaged. read more

I shop here often and for years. yes, I wish there was someone roving around the store so you dont have to look for help but still--I always do get help when I asked for it. The one reason why they get 5 stars, instead of 4 is that around printing services I felt the staff very helpful. When my Mother died they not only made me very nice programs for her service but they did it immediately (I was in a hurry). I really appreciated that. read more

I ordered 2 items for pick up at this location because their website said they had them in stock. I received an email about 10 minutes later telling me one of the items was unavailable, so I went back onto the website to order for pick up at another Staples location. While on the site, it still showed that this location should have some in stock, so I called to see if someone could double check. After giving the sales associate the item number and being put on hold for almost 10 minutes, another person picks up the phone and asks how they can help me. After telling him someone was checking on a product for me, his tone completely changed. "Yeaaahhh... we don't have that in stock if you got that email so I'm not sure why you want us to check." Then I asked him how long it takes for their system to update, because the site said this morning that they had 4 of the item I was looking for, and after I placed my order and received that email, the site said they had 3 in stock. He told me they have to manually update it and there wasn't "really a point" for him to go walk to the aisle and check. Needless to say I went to pick up the other half of my order, and the item that was "out of stock" was sitting on the shelves. All 4 of them. I get that being at work can be a pain in the ass sometimes, especially in customer service, but when a customer is politely asking you to help them, there's no need to cop an attitude. Your manager will understand you leaving your task at the moment to quickly answer a customer's question, especially if it's because of an error on the company's end. read more

I went to staples in Chicago on Roosevelt and Canal in the South Loop. I was looking for large graph paper and some mechanical pencils. I walked towards one employee and said young man and he walked away as though he did not hear me. I went to the checkout to ask for assistance and the guy at the register, who was busy at the time, asked by way of walkie talkie if anyone knew if there was big paper at that store. After three calls he was told that if I did not find it in aisles 5 or 11 they did not have it. When the guy waited on me he did not even hand me my merchandise and the person behind me put his items on top of mine. Most of the people I came in contact with seemed uncaring and insensitive to the needs of the customer. What a worthless bunch of employees. read more
