The staff in the store are rude and unprofessional. I placed an order online and expected a specific item to be made. When I arrived at the store, that item was not made to the specifications that were listed online. Apparently you need to make other modifications to your order which is not stated to you. The staff was unhelpful, and when I asked to speak with a manager, they passed me off to the supervisor for the evening. The supervisor was unfriendly and basically told me I was out of luck. read more

They have everything from posters, cardboard, different types of glues, paint, etc. The items are pricey and sometimes I can find them cheaper elsewhere but coming here has everything so the convenience is good. I found a printer I wanted to buy however the box had a big hole in the middle, so I asked the manager(I think he was the manager) George if they had another printer in stock, since I didn't want to buy a printer w/ such damaged box. George asks Ben(a sales associate) to look for another printer. Ben takes a while to find the printer, so I walk towards the front of the store looking for Ben, and I see him stepping down a rolling safety ladder, and I asked him if he had found another printer, and that's when I noticed a brand new box sitting on top of a storage area. So I asked him "what's wrong with that one?" Ben then reluctantly brings the box down, and I can hear him whisper into the his earpiece microphone "too late, he saw the printer box, we are walking to the front". I then politely laugh and ask Ben if George(his manager) just tried to sell me the printer with the damaged box, a paying customer, and Ben deflects the conversation. In short, George(manager or supervisor), told Ben to pretend he didn't find another printer in the store so I would have no choice but to purchase the printer with the damaged box. One reason why this Staples is a good fit for me is because the people there are always friendly, pleasant and willing to help you. The second reason is they are not as busy when I go in the early morning hour and I like that. Things happen but this is a business, and one that carries chairs! They couldn't be bothered to replace it? It is really disgusting and based on how no one there seems to care, not that surprising. I purchased a new laptop and they ALLEGEDLY were going to transfer all my data to the new computer. The new computer has my data but the old one has NOTHING on it. The pictures and files all show up that they are they are there but I cannot access any of my information. My old computer was not broken;I was only upgrading. I gave a 3 out of 5 Bc they actually had the printer ink I needed and not online. There are maybe 5 people working in a store that I need someone to get what I want. The ink was in a plastic box and it was just a picture. I walked half way through the store til I approached someone then they told me to meet back at the tech center(where I started). No one was there I waited there for about 3-5 mins and then he needed someone else for a key for the locked up items . A customer walked up with a printer and was also waiting. Once my rep called for someone over the walk-in about my ink cartridge the gentleman who I believe had the keys actually stopped to talk to the guy about his printer problems First. Simple issue that I could of probably resolved but instead the guy I was waiting for did and that caused me to wait another 3 mins. I don't understand why staples is still a thing. This location is close to my house so I tend to shop here but it's a the point I don't want to visit this dump any longer due to the poor customer service and the poor attitude of the employees and management. They think they are doing you a favor and they don't acknowledge you because they are too busy chatting and don't pay attention to the customers needs. Forget it if you need to go to the print shop. They have it down to a science ignoring you like there is nobody there. First thing of customer service is greet the customer then you anticipate the need of the customer then you take them to the item and you thank them. Very simple things to follow for good service. You can wait at the print shop for minutes upon minutes before they acknowledge you yet help you. Too many employees walking around doing nothing to help the customers or even open a register when there is a line. What happen to " 3 in line , call for back up" Where are these managers? Be careful when there is a sale item they don't stock and they tell you you can order it on line and they will ship it to you. Twice this has happened to me . I listened to the employee when I needed a fax machine and the sale price did not carry over and I paid the full price. Last week , I needed a file cabinet and they did not have it in stock and again they told me to order it on line and the full price came up and I literally had to fight with the manager who said that's a in store special and the online price is what I was going to pay . After insisting at the sale price she answered me that she would do it just this one time. I think I am a good customer as I have spent $ $ 2,317.21 YTD and to receive such customer service at this East Rutherford location tonight is uncalled for and to have one register open to service the customers is horrible. I say clean house here. I also visited the Ramsey Staples location to buy office supplies and spent around $ 200 but the staff was great . I have also visited the Park Ridge location and the young college girl at the print shop is friendly with a smile and happy to help you. The service here has completely gone DOWNHILL !! I went in to get envelopes for work, they only had one box on the shelf and a promotion if you bought 2 or more. I asked if I could order another box to take advantage of the promotion. The cashier who seemed to be doing his best to place the order was clearly lost, the supposed manager was a joke ! He came over 4 times but never once would he help the cashier, he just kept repeating "you're killing me" so in the meantime I had to stand there for 25 minutes ( my lunch time gone) while the cashier tried 4 times to enter all my info to be able to place the order. I tried to call CS when I got home and never got a call back ~ I strongly suggest you go to ANY other office supply store. read more

I am a teacher and have frequently used Staples as my go-to store. I had been looking for blue light reading glasses to relieve the strain on my eyes from remote teaching. The "gry mattr" display of these types of glasses was right near the checkout and I found a pair I was interested in. I opted to not try the glasses on in the store due to COVID. There were NO SIGNS POSTED about the item not being returnable or exchangeable so I specifically asked the cashier if it would be returnable. I explained that I did not want to try the display glasses due to COVID and she understood. She then went on to confidently share that I could return them within 15 days. I took them home and found that they blurred my vision and would not be of use. The next morning I went to return the glasses and was told I could not return them. I explained what the cashier told me that the night before and he called the manager on the headset who stated the same, I would not be able to return them. I asked if I could just get a merchandise credit or gift card for the store but they declined. The store manager never came to speak in person and nothing else was offered. Horrible customer service, lack of training on the cashier's part, and negligent on the store's end to not state that the glasses would not be returnable. read more

I use staples most of the time to buy ink or get viruses removed when I need to but their customer service and reliability aren't that great. I use them mostly due to convenience of their location but when I went into to pick up my computer after getting viruses removed the store looked like a ghost town, there wasn't an employee to be found, when I finally got to the tech desk to pick up my computer, the associate started helping me and in the middle of trying to find my computer just up and left the desk to help someone else and was gone for like 5 minutes which I thought was very rude. After waiting another associate came up to the desk and tried to help me but I don't think she knew the difference between a laptop and PC because she was very confused when I told her I had an All-in One, then she proceed to try to find my computer but had no clue, even after I spelled and repeated my name to her over 3 times. The other thing that really bothered me was the fact that I dropped my computer off Friday afternoon and I asked the tech associate when I could expect it back and even gave him a three day leeway and he said " Oh no, you'll have it back by tomorrow".When I called the next day to see the status of my computer, they hadn't even started scanning it and I ended up picking it up two days later anyway.If it wasn't for the convenient location or the fact that I didn't have to pay for the repairs. This is a great staples! I've been here several times and 1 day I came in to print several papers I needed for a meeting. Unfortunately I was having issues with pulling my papers up on the online copier. The manager came over to me and quickly was able to find the documents I needed and helped me make copies. He offered to put the documents on thicker paper or help me change the formatting but I said it was alright. I was in and out in a matter of minutes because of the managers help, and his kind attitude while working with me. Thank you! read more

Simply put - this location needs help! It's run down and they don't help when there's a long line. The poor girl at the copy center was swamped and when the manager came by to give her change he didn't offer to help! That makes no sense at all.
