This was my first visit to this dental office, and I left feeling a bit disappointed. The dentist finished my cleaning in under 10 minutes and didn't introduce himself, which made the visit feel impersonal. Water sprayed on my face and ran down my neck during the cleaning, and I wasn't offered goggles or any protection -- something I've always been provided at other offices. The office and equipment also seemed a bit dated. I understand that Medi-Cal covers basic care, but I still believe every patient deserves attentive, professional treatment. Before losing my job, I'd been seeing dentists regularly for over 30 years, and this visit just didn't meet the level of care I've come to expect. I hope the office takes this feedback as an opportunity to improve patient comfort and experience. read more

Dr. price is my go-to. I was a patient years ago and after dealing with the fancy dentists who want to do a deep cleaning or nothing else I came back to good old Price. I trust his opinion and feel he's not out to nickel and done me one bit. Some reviews make it out as if he's an ahole but he's not , just don't expect to be coddled and you'll be just fine! The hygienists are all kind too and one of the front desk gals is nice. The tall white brunette older woman is the definition of MEAN girl! Old rude lady who hates her job and everyone she speaks to. She needs to go based on my experience and the reviews of others, she's the rotten seed in the office! Such a rude, mean, grossly behaved "adult" people like are what's ruining society. l started going to Star in 2017. Things had always gone smoothly until 2020. I had a lower partial made in 2020. Prior to that I had a one tooth flipper made which wasn't right. It was to small and short for the space it went into. I accepted it because I knew a lower partial wound be made in the next few months. The day Dr Price made the mold I reminded him of how the flipper tooth was to small for its space. When the partial came in it looked terrible. It was to short and crooked. It broke in half almost right away. When I showed Dr. Lloyd how it fit and that it was digging into my inner gum he blew me off. He refused to at least adjust it. He left me hanging with an ugly smile. He told his office manager that I am always changing what I want to have done. I couldn't believe he said that. Yes additional work needed to be done and was. I never had an outstanding balance with the practice. I don't know why he refused to make the partial fit right. I am sorely disappointed with this dentist and would not recommend Star Dental to anyone no matter what. Beware of Star Dental, they seem nice but won't correct any mistakes they make. Receptionist - friendly Hygienist - great Office condition - ok X-ray equipment, other equipment - seemed new, great Dr. Price - 1 star - not good! He did all of the plaque removal for my standard cleaning, and was hurting my gums the entire time. I am not a sensitive person, and this was painful! I visited him two years in a row, thinking I exaggerated the memory - unfortunately, it was not exaggerated. Will not be returning. read more

THE WORST dentist office I have ever dealt with. 1. Horrible customer service by their front desk every time I have called, today specifically Angela who has a teenager snotty attitude. She gave me the run around then didn't answer the phone when I called right back. 2. Their phones only work once in a while, it just rings during business hours and no one picks up. (Connie told me it's an on going problem with their phones and the owners don't care to fix it) 3.the only person there who was a delight was a young Indian man who is the dental assistant. 4. Welp- there's no way to know for sure BUT as I have been self isolated due to the state of the world. I wash my hands, wear a mask, stay home and do ALL the things and always error on the side of caution when it comes to my health. I had gone a year and three months without being ill. After my visit to this office I became ill. I was tested and NEGATIVE for covid but regardless of that fact- this practice is letting hygiene and cleanliness slip through the cracks. I cannot, through all my efforts, rationalize any scenario in the previous 15 days before my visit where I would have possibly picked up anything. (Definitely for 7 days at least because I was home in bed with a broken tooth as I awaited my "emergency visit" during which they did nothing to repair the damage. STAY AWAY. Or demand they clean things right before your eyes before you let them stick it in your mouth if you must visit. I will reiterate- I cannot be sure of this claim. Nothing is 100% but it's an awfully small world for the timing of all the events. Also, during my talk with the dentist I told here kindly "I'm having trouble hearing you" (I don't have hearing problems) her response was to giggle and tell me "oh don't worry that's okay!" I was super pleased with Star Dental and will definitely be returning! They take Medi-Cal and are hands down the best dentist I've been to that takes that insurance. (For many of you that have Medi-Cal perhaps you know what I'm talking about when I say some places are pretty spotty and cut a lot of corners!) Not the case here at all. I felt like I was treated very well and respectfully by all involved. Not only that but the practice runs like a well oiled machine. I was seen within five minutes of my appointment time both times I've been in (this never happens at other places!) The receptionist was helpful on the phone and in person answering my questions, the dental hygienists were efficient and friendly, and most of all I want to give some special thanks to Dr. Price. He was attentive to my needs and concerns and was so fast and efficient with his work. I was in and out in record time! read more

My first experience with Star Dental left me fairly pleased -- especially considering this is a small practice that accepts Medi-Cal patients. In comparison to my last dentist, Sacramento Native American Clinic, the comparison is like night and day. I first called the office seeking an afternoon check-up/cleaning and also had a chipped and aching tooth, for which I needed care. I was told cleaning appointments weren't available until November (2 months out), but I could have an afternoon appointment for my bad tooth in 9 days. Not bad. I had no problems getting a hold of anyone on the phone nor any problems in communication. The day before my scheduled appointment, I needed to reschedule as I was ill. Because I was calling during the office's long lunch, I wasn't able to get anyone on the phone, and the phone also went to voicemail a couple of times when they should have been back in the office, but on my third try after lunch, I was able to reschedule for a week later without any hassle. Again, that's perfectly acceptable and a welcome change from my experience with Native American Clinic where I waited months for appointments and where they would not schedule emergency/follow-up appointments after I foolishly agreed to let a dental student work on me at the SNAC, and his work caused me pain that lasted years. The reason I am giving 4 stars and not 5 has nothing to do with the dental care I received, but is due to the fragrant, floral smell of the office. I am sensitive to odors and that strong of an allergy-triggering odor does not belong in a medical office. I toughed it out in the waiting room because I did not want to wait outside in the heat (although I was just about to get some fresh air when they called me back), but another patient chose to wait outside because she was also having a reaction to the scent. Because of the scent, I went into my appointment with an irritated throat. My actual appointment went well. The dentist removed my slightly chipped filling, discovered I had a cavity underneath, refilled it and also better sanded a tooth next to it, which he said the last dentist had chipped when filling my problem-some tooth. He worked quickly and the filling came out great -- perfectly sanded down so my bite is correct. At my appointment (Sept 15), I scheduled my full check-up and cleaning for the end of October, which is not a long wait at all. I will update this review after that appointment, but for now, I feel good recommending this practice. read more

Performed two x-rays - panoramic and the single shots - way too much radiation for one visit for children to undergo. I imagine they're trying to overcharge. Stated they would do cleaning but no cleaning performed. He indicated there were cavities but gave sparse explanation about where they were located. Worst dentist I have experienced. I am giving my dentist office 5 Stars because of their awesome dentist and great office staff. They are professional and straight forward with what work needs to be done to keep your teeth healthy. Ok, so I finally was able to get connected to them after going through my insurance company. The only time I had luck getting through to them was when they heard me speaking into the voicemail regarding setting up an emergency appointment. I did wait about 35-40 minutes in the office to be seen even though I had an appointment. The woman at the front desk is pretty abrasive and not too friendly. The actual appointment itself went quickly. However, I am under the impression that this is a county dentist as they basically said they just pull teeth instead of doing a root canal unless the insurance covers it. So my tooth would have to be pretty bad off. Needless to say I'm going back to my usual dentist and making payment arrangements if needed. Since I had denti-cal, I figured I would give this place a shot as some services are covered 100%...but apparently not. I'm gaining coverage under my husband's plan, but there is a waiting period. I would only go back here if there was no other option. read more

This place is effing horrible! Took my son for the first time and all they did was look in his mouth and tried to get us out the door quickly. The staff had zero personality and were just rude. I then made an appointment for myself since it had been a few years since I've had a cleaning. It took 45 minutes after my scheduled time to take me back and both 2 younger girls were super snotty and rude. She even said your not guaranteed your schedule time since they book up to 4 patients per hour. I understand I had paperwork to fill out- but even after I turned it in a lady who came in well after me went in before me and finished. Overall, their scheduling just sucks. I've never heard of such a crappy system. The dentist himself (older white male) i've seen him there both times and both times he just did a quick peek and sent us on our way. My "cleaning" involved a little scraping and the then the lady polishing. No fluoride, or time taken to do a decent job. Worst customer service all around i've ever experienced. I'm currently on the search for a new dentist for me and my son needless to say. read more

Went to Dr. Price for 20 years, then was heartbroken when he left. So happy to find him back in his old location. Not sure who Star Dental is but they are very nice and apparently now own the practice. But Dr. Price is back working in this location and he is an excellent dentist and did some extensive work that was sorely needed. And yes, I agree the building is old and could use sprucing up but I'm not about to pay double for some ambiance by greedy dentists like I've had to see the past couple of years before finding Dr. Price again. read more

I'm disappointed with the fact that when a person has only medi-cal coverage, they pretty much don't have a guarantee for quality dental care. By far this is one of the best reviewed on yelp but even then, it didn't please me. I am a dental assistant myself and came here with my boyfriend, he was the patient. The Doc analyzed and diagnosed off of a panoramic which was poor quality. not even any extra x-rays (I sent some that i took at another office that same month and doc refused to even glance at them). He even missed an abscess that may need treatment in the future. I was shocked. On pt's second appointment, the doc came in 40 minutes late!! that is so unacceptable and unprofessional. And didn't even apologize, because who knows the pt probably has nowhere to be right?! When the doc diagnosed, his explanations were very mild if any at all. he didn't take time to get to know the patient, but jumped straight into treatment. After performing a filling, he didn't ask the patient how he felt, after which he told me his tooth feels rough so we asked the doc to please polish the tooth (which is pretty much the last step in every filling). The equipment and place is okay I guess, not the most updated. Receptionist is nice but there are some things that confuse me especially the fact that when I schedule an appointment, the exact words that come over the receiver are "I'm not sure what will be done but we have you down for an hour". I've never stumbled upon that and it implies that the doc will try to cram in as much as he can in that given hour to get as much done as he can (quantity vs. quality). With that, I would actually rather pay more at another office that has a dentist who cares more and does quality work. But I do hope there is improvement in the future. For anyone that writes a review in the future, please be more specific of what went wrong and know that digital X-rays these days are not as harmful as they used to be. They are about 10% of what it used to be. read more

I am very pleased so far. I took my father-in-law in for a check-up, knowing he would probably need extractions and dentures. The dentist analyzed his x-rays in front of us, thinking out loud and explaining what he was seeing, pointing at the images. He asked questions to get an idea of what would be the best course of action and also seemed interested in how we preferred to move forward. His bedside manner is a bit rough, but he made an effort to greet my father-in-law in Spanish and made sure we understood everything. That is what matters to me! read more

Where do i even start? This place is horrible! I took my daughter yesterday for her very first dentist appointment as soon as we walked up the stairs there was spider webs this place is so old! The front desk lady was rude, the plant they had in the waiting room area was coverd in spider webs!!! You really DO NOT want to take your kids here! Was very fast when it comes to waiting but have screwed me up so many times that's it's actually causing me extreme stress, I needed teeth removed so they were supposed to give me a referral to an oral surgery at a different location, so they tried to do my X-rays but it was a new person and couldn't get it right so they did it over and over and over about 5 times maybe, then my oral surgery referral got denied because the X-rays still weren't good enough and not acceptable, so the second time they sent a referral I got denied again because they didn't specify the tooth numbers which need to be removed, so the third time they sent a referral I got accepted but when I went to my consultation for oral surgery they told me that the referral was only for one tooth but it was actually supposed to be 3 teeth, so that was a complete waste of my time, now I'm trying to reach them to get them to do it right the fourth time, we'll see if they are capable of finally doing that, I'm so stressed out from having to deal with this and on top of that I have to find a babysitter every time it's ridiculous read more

Dental hygienist, and the dentist were great, especially the dentist. The dentist filled a sensitive tooth in the upper most portion of my tooth due to brushing to hard and not brushing properly, which my previous dentist couldn't or wouldn't do. Dudos to the dentist! read more
