There is a Star Diner not far from the house in Sylvania. It is always packed. I was visiting someone at St Charles Hospital and I recalled there was a Star Diner very close to the hospital. I arrived at 1:30p and the Diner closes at 2. Not too many people in the restaurant. I was greeted by a friendly staff member (the usual for Star Diner). Service was very good, as my server was very attentive - bonus! I actually ordered breakfast: Star Special - 3 eggs (any style), generous portion of perfectly done home fried potatoes, turkey sausage patties, and of course biscuits with butter and honey. The food offerings in Oregon are mediocre at best. After many trips to the area I decided to have a sit down breakfast instead of the mostly fast food options. The eggs Benedict were terrible. The hollandaise sauce looks like chalky paste and the eggs were overdone. Maybe something simple like pancakes is adequate (they looked ok as they passed by to other tables). Having traveled to Oregon, Ohio for a speaking engagement, we were invited out for lunch afterwords. The group that invited us were the from older generation which was well represented at the Diner. I can see why they love it, the food was good and the portions were enough for two. My biggest problem with the restaurant was the theme. It was like a want to be Hooters, for no reason. Nobody their was looking at the girls in their mini skirts, they were there for the food. I am not a prude but it just felt uncomfortable. Understand, I am biased anytime I walk into a restaurant and see only women in the front and only men in the back... so know that I noticed this immediately. The worst part about it was how cheap the uniforms they had to wear were. I just felt bad for the workers... The food was good. I had a veggie omelette, it was nice to see a French omelette on my plate, and my wife had the french toast. The table next to us had Onion Rings and they looked hand battered. The people with us had Banana Cream pancakes and they enjoyed them. Overall, any place that makes me feel uncomfortable (let me be clear, not in a prudish way but in an equality way) is not worth going to. If my wife and I were by ourselves, we probably would not have stayed. I know the towns people love this place so I can not argue with that. This restaurant is just plain horrible. It's really dark inside and the food was dry. The waitresses are all wearing skimpy clothing which isn't something you should expect from a breakfast joint. Waffle House is way better than this. Avoid at all cost! read more

I was really looking forward to eating here as my girlfriend raved about the breakfasts. Well, we went there yesterday and sat ourselves at a booth. The place wasn't very busy and the servers were talking amongst themselves. Well shortly afterward another couple sat themselves in the booth directly behind us. The server walks over and waits on them! Then a group of guys seat themselves at another booth. Again another server heads to their booth to wait on them. Needless to say we got up and left without ever receiving so much as a " we'll be right with you" Guess I'll never know what the food is like. We like to go here for breakfast on the weekends. However, yesterday when we were seated by the hostess (she was pleasant) then another young lady (not a waitress) she didn't have on a uniform came to take our drink orders and was very unprofessional and not personable at all. I say thank you & she says "yep". I didn't appreciate this at all. Low and behold she brought our food out & I didn't even bother to thank her. Our waitress was attentive and pleasant. Just like another reviewer a year prior we had mold on our toast which my girlfriend didnt see until she ate half of it. And whats even more sad about that is the server went over to the kitchen and in earshot of us said come on guys this is the second time today we need to be more careful. So your telling me this happened earlier in the day and no one thought to look at the rest of the bread in the kitchen to check it WOW. The hash browns were greasy and soggy. The eggs were not real eggs but the synthetic tasting egg beaters you buy in the carton! GROSS! The only positive was the service. The server Jordan checked in on us frequently. She was apologetic about the mold and even got the manager to take the food of our bill. Although it was kind of sad that the manager couldn't walk their lazy a** out to our table to apologize! Went to this diner last Saturday with Mother-in-Law, SWMBO and SWMABO. I had never been, but Jackie and MIL have been there often and they said it was great. Jackie also said, "the waitresses wear really short skirts". (Note to self - pay attention to the food and your table-mates and a WHOLE LOT LESS to the wait staff.) I'm getting old, so yes I forgot by the time we arrived. We walked in and a cute girl behind the host stand asked the number in our party, grabbed some menus and said "follow me". When she stepped out she had a REALLY short skirt under her tight tank top. It actually shocked me. Both for the outfit and the fact it caught me unexpectedly! Jackie laughed at my reaction and said "I told you". Yes, she had. Anyway, the service was great as well as scantily clad. Coffee was fresh and hot (even the decaf) and all the breakfasts looked great and were enjoyed. MIL had some strawberry crepes and Jackie had a standard breakfast with what they call Big Toast (Texas Toast bread as toast). I saw chorizo in one of their Skillet Breakfasts and went for it. Timely, since having had my heart crushed by the closing of La Cachanilla recently. Star Diner's Southwest Skillet is Refried Beans, Hash Browns and Chorizo topped with choice of eggs and cheese. The Chorizo was a little dry. It may have been the type that comes in a casing rather than the much juicier version that looks like ground meat. The beans were kind of dry too. The flavors were on point though. If they gave a tortilla or two with this breakfast, it would be really great. As is, it is not even served with toast. There was plenty though. I didn't even finish the whole thing (really close). All of the breakfasts are huge. I noticed the humongous plates as we entered and said to Jackie "Look, they serve on hubcaps!" I have been eating here for a few years now, mostly for breakfast. If you enjoy diner style breakfast or lunch, this place fits the bill nicely. Never, ever had food I didn't love here, pretty waitresses that are actually good at thier job. One word of caution, this place has very busy times, especially on the weekends. One of the best places I've had breakfast in 50 years. I'm fussy about my eggs and they nailed them! Breakfast meats are way above average and they use a thick bread for their toast. Service is fantastic and the staff is very friendly.Clean,bright and plenty of parking. Usually packed on weekends after 9 AM so get there early! read more

Got the steak platter the steak was done perfectly however the rest of the meal was bland and quite under seasoned. The eggs I asked for over easy which they were the yolks were perfectly runny however there were a couple of parts of the egg whites that were still runny as well.
