    Thai tea

Their Thai tea is still good 4/5 because my friends say it's too sweet. I thought it was fine

For a Thai/Vietnamese cuisine, the flavor on their food is not bursting with flavor! There's nothing that sparks in terms of the food specialty, quality, taste and price for me to rave about them as a food truck. What they offer is typical and there's nothing unique on their menu, which Thai/Vietnamese restaurants does not offer just as well - or made better too. They hardly ever have a long line...I guess that is one good thing?

Only thing I enjoyed from this Food Truck is the Thai Tea! You will definitely see faculty and students of UC Davis coming and going to this Food Truck everyday. 2 stars because I really don't enjoy their banh mi (sandwich). As a Vietnamese person from San Jose, I've had better. At least they tried. I had the pork banh mi and it was okay. Not as flavorful as it could have been. Also had their asian noodle salad and that was okay. It didn't wow me but what do you expect - it comes from a food truck. In their defense, they actually are better than some food trucks I've seen before. Menu's are clear and professional looking, while their customer service is pretty good! Coming back for the Thai Tea. MAYBE I'll try their BBQ Chicken Banh Mi and see how that goes.

    Pork bánh mì

I ordered their "5 Spice" pork banh mi and enjoyed it. It costs $5.50 for a sandwich by itself, but you can upgrade to a drink+sandwich combo for $6.50 or a drink+sandwich+bag of chips combo for $7.50. If you're familiar with Vietnamese restaurants in San Francisco you'll know you can find plenty of places that sell sandwiches for $3-$4--definitely cheapter than Star Ginger. But since this is a food truck, at UC Davis no less, I wasn't too surprised at the prices they charge. Onto the review of the banh mi. As I mentioned earlier, I enjoyed it. The baguette was soft and lightly toasted so it wasn't crumbling all over the place. The pork was flavorful and the texture was just right--some pork banh mi's I've had have meat that is too hard to chew!! The veggies (carrots, cucumber, daikon, cilantro) were bright and crispy and fresh and pretty well portioned out too. For my taste there was the right amount of jalapenos. The sandwich is also spread with Star Ginger's "sriracha aioli" which I thought was delicious. Most variations of banh mi have some kind of sauce/spread but I really liked the flavor of the aioli they used. The sauce tied all of the ingredients of the sandwich together. In short, I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of the banh mi. It was much better than I expected. The workers inside the truck said the chicken banh mi is their most popular flavor, so I'll try that next time. One complaint I have is that the sandwich wasn't as hot as I thought it'd be by the time I ate it. I walked to Student Community Center to have lunch so it was only about 5 minutes after I bought it when I finally ate it. It was warm, but not what I'd expect from a sandwich I just ordered a few minutes ago. Service was fast as usual. I had ordered their Thai tea a few times before and the food/drinks always come out quickly. As far as the Thai tea goes, I'd prefer it with more milk, but you could always ask for more. They accept cash and card+Aggie cash too. Overall I will be back to Star Ginger since they have a couple of different items. I just hope that next time the food will be extra hot!

    5 Spice Pork rice bowl

This place has been opened for a while and I'm surprised there aren't any other reviews for it yet. It's a food truck. The line at the other food truck is always pretty long and I was a little hesitant to try this one because there is hardly ever a line here. Turns out the food is decent, I tried the 5 spice pork rice bowl. It comes with 4 slices of pork with a little sauce on top (over rice) and an asian sweet seasame dressing as the side. The taste was pretty good, but I could have used a little more sauce on the pork, the top pieces had sauce but the bottom pieces had no sauce. The food itself is just decent, but when you compare to the other options on campus, it's a nice change (especially since all that is in the Silo is just fast food). I'd come back.

5 Spice Pork. On good days they give you larger slices of pork.

The Thai chicken here is good. The taco is alright, nothing special. Thai tea is decent and as good as any other place.

Now they have their own storefront with a ton more options to customize your meal, and more options and things to order overall. The storefront is not huge, but I don't think it needs to be. It's clean and pretty well organized. The service is also fine. I ordered a combo rice bowl and was glad to be able to add extra toppings like tomatoes in the such. Now, the one thing that they don't do like the old truck used to do is load up with sauce. The old truck used to drown your bowl in sauce whereas now they're a little more conservative, but I imagine you could ask for more if you wanted more. The bowl itself tasted good. It's not going to be the best Halal food that you'll get in Davis or anywhere else in the world, but it tasted nostalgic, and I really enjoyed the whole thing. My husband who is currently on campus more than I am noted that the storefront gives you more food than the food truck at the silo. He also said that the food tasted better here.

Everybody kept coming back to me ask me where I bought these strawberries from and that they loved it! I had a handful of co-workers give me cash money to go and buy them baskets, and the requests continued for weeks! I had to write down and print out the actual directions and address for this fruit stand so that people could go and get it themselves because the weekly requests were getting overwhelming. That's how good these strawberries are. It runs for about $8 for 4 baskets or $10 for 6 baskets, I believe. They also sell them by single baskets too, I think.. but I always buy multiple baskets so I recommend doing that because they go by so fast!! When strawberry season comes back, I am definitely coming back!

They have a rotating menu of hand-pies, so don't go with a specific one in mind. All the ones I've had are tasty, but for the price, I wish they were bigger. I usually need two to fill up. I do understand that a lot of this is likely due to the hefty booth fee the Market charges. The folks running it are very friendly. The last time I was there, I couldn't decide between the Mario (Italian sausage, marinara and mozzarella) and Luigi (cremini, pesto and mozzarella). Both were excellent, with flavorful filling and a flaky crust that also held up to the filling. The caramelized onion and Gruyère also sounded tempting. After we ate and the group split off into a couple of directions, some of us went over to check out the event. It was getting to the main heat of the day, so staying in the shade as much as possible was a priority. There was a nice variety of vendors with different kinds of mostly handmade items. From beautiful jewelry to clothing, to crafty decor pieces, woodwork, suncatchers, and much more. It was a bit too hot for me to have full enthusiasm for shopping.
