Good mapo tofu, good pork belly, what's not to like? There's lots of good Chinese in Davis, but this is one of the staples and definitely a fine choice.

Came to Hunan on a weekend for lunch. We thought the lunch special might also be on weekends but the website wasn't very clear, turns out the lunch special only applies Monday to Friday. Food was still good just a little pricy for 2 for just lunch! Ended up being around $45 after we tipped 20%. We had Dan Dan noodles which were really good and pretty spicy, and then sesame chicken which also had good flavor and was a generous portion. We would return to try the weekday lunch special sometime!

I had to come back to this restaurant to not only redeem my coupon for veggie spring rolls but also to get full size portions of some of my favorite dishes! I love all the plants inside. There's a lot of them! This adds life to the already beautifully decorated restaurant! I had time to kill before my school's open house. I decided to come check out this restaurant and order tofu, chow fun and the spring rolls. Everything was made fresh to order and I didn't have to wait long to receive my food. I went in a little after 4 PM and was able to place my order promptly and swiftly. There was plenty of parking out front and it wasn't that busy at all. There were many online orders for pick up and I love that they have a system where their food was kept in warm bags and easily acceptable for the food. Pick up drivers to come get their orders. The guy who checked me out and made sure I got the food was very nice and thorough. I can see me coming back here again, whether it be to dine in or to order to go. I highly recommend checking this place out, especially if you love Chinese food.

Take out review. I order dandan noodles, beef roll, and brown sugar rice cakes. I like the authentic options on their menu. Restaurant was pretty busy and decorated for lunar new year which was nice. Dandan noodles were very flavorful - almost a bit too salty tbh. The numbing heat also layers a good deal so at one point I tapped out. Wish there was more pork / peanut to have more complexity but the overwhelming flavor was chili oil. Beef roll was a little dry overall. I liked the herbs rolled in with the beef but probably would not order that again. The rice cakes were friend well not too greasy and the brown sugar sauce was yummy. I'll be back to continue trying their authentic dishes. Great to have this option among so many Chinese-American options. They are making sure to cater to the international students at UC Davis and we all benefit :)

Service was great. Food was great. And they have lamb!! Awesome eatery! Great place for family and bros. Ambiance was nice. Nothing bad to say. Only good things. Must try. This sichuan style restaurant is good for this canto boy! (But only if you can tolerate spice) Letter of Recommendation: A

This was the first time I've tried this place... we ordered food to go which is always nerve wracking as to if the food will still be hot and fresh... Thankfully it was piping hot! I ordered the sesame chicken. The chicken was lightly breaded and still very tender but the sauce was super bland. I was totally let down when it came to the flavors that covered the chicken it may as well have been just water... super big let down on flavor... someone else got the kung poa chicken I did try a little of that, way more flavorful. If I try this place again I'll definitely be ordering that.

My friend recommended that we come and try this Chinese restaurant in Davis and it did not disappoint. The restaurant was decorated nicely and had a lot of tables. We ordered 4 dishes and it was more than enough to serve 5 people. We ordered the Mongolian beef, wonton, tomato egg soup, and the szechuan fried rice. Everything was delicious.

This restaurant selling not fresh ,smelly meat . Also they refused to return order . We have ordered 6 different dish . When Spicy lamb chop coming up to the table I immediately asked the server to return the order . Cause it's smell bad , also the meat it's black color . During our dinning time they have two different server come up asked me to take to go of the lamb 3 time !!!It's crazy, the food was disgusting already they can't stop ruining our dinning time . In the end ,we still paid for the disgusting lamb chop we didn't even touch. Selling price was 26.95 $ .Oh , well ,we paid for our experience, I hope no one else need to pay for that again ! It's coming sense on a sat they only have 33 table . How can you expect they have all food fresh ? I hope this 26.95$ make this owner rich .

Was in the Davis area with my sister and friends. Decided to stop by this place for lunch. Came here Saturday around 1pm and they were not too busy. Got a table right away. They offered 2 different menus. Hunan and Szechuan. We opted for the Szechuan menu. Spicy broiled fish: the fish was silky and big chunks. A bit too spicy and greasy for me. Salt style fried pork belly: I thought this was a deep fried dish but it wasn't. It is actually a stir fried pork belly. It was good though. Just a kick of spice. Premium beef with pickled vegetables: pickled veggies were crunchy and refreshing. Beef was a bit dry. Looked like a noodle soup especially since there were clear noodles included. Beef chow fun: this was my fave! It had an excellent charred taste which I really like. Noodles were super soft and tasted like freshly made. Beef rolls: beef was a bit dry but the rolls were good. The skin was light and fluffy. Service was super quick. The food took about 10 mins to come out. Portions were huge! Food was good. Prices a bit high but everything is expensive now.

Place is adorned with symbols, cartoons and slightly odd translations, many of them repeats but amusing to read while dining. We got a couple dumpling dishes and sat down. Service is odd but it works. There are touchscreens and there's also a regular cashier. "eat with love, happy wife happy life" Hope that doesn't offend you. Probably something lost in translation so relax with the sensitivity. Ambiance vibes were minimal because I think it's summer break. If it got much busier (which I'm fairly certain it will) there would be less space to move around, obviously, but I think folks would still pile in. Dumplings were tasty and one came with a dipping sauce. They appeared to have the array of umami sauces (salty-soy, sweet-chili, spicy-cock, bitter-vinegar) along with a shaker of paprika? Don't cry about the dishware. Paper bowls for everyone! I'm sure they had forks somewhere but we never saw them. "Tea won't be drunk, but the person will" HUH? Never tried those "Freshly Made Egg Waffle" things so figured, why not. Got some chocolate guys that look like oversized bubble wrap. Thought it'd be better. Thought maybe there'd be something INSIDE the bubble. Nope. Was just kinda meh. "Sorry we won't able to have discount, but you might able to get the whole store if you hit on the boss" gives off harassment vibes. Hopefully it's just lost in translation. Odd advice kept me reading for the final Yelp-ish words of wisdom: "One meal means eat for the whole day without stopping." But take pictures and write about it.

We usually ask to skip the spam, but everything else in the soup, at least one person in it family will eat. Quail egg, fried tofu, chicken thigh, green leeks, peanuts, sliced beef, thin tofu sheets (and I'm probably missing a few ingredients!) 2. Chicken Cutlet with meat sauce over rice: if we are getting at least two items, this is for sure one of them. Excellent flavor on the peppery batter on the juicy chicken and the meat sauce and pickled veggies are an excellent combination. 3. Zha Jiang Mien: First time trying it. Two of us liked it. May get, again, next time. We usually prefer the blacker Korean style sauce, but this was pretty good, too. 4. Beef roll: think thinly sliced beef with fresh veggies rolled up in an onion pancake. Everyone in the family likes this dish, but we don't always get it (us wanting to try new things). Sad to see you guys leave your Sacramento... come back, PLEASE!

And I will say it was for good reason that they showed up. Every single item that we had the salt and pork spare ribs, the shrimp soup dumplings, the traditional soup dumplings, the green beans with garlic sauce, the wontons and chili oil and sauce, and my Thai milk tea. Every single item was just fresh number one and two the flavors were so like bursting in your mouth but they all complimented each other. We ordered a lot of food and each time I tried something it still tasted as good even when it started to cool down a little bit. I will say my favorite item though, because I do like a little bit more spice but I would like things to be flavorful as well, was The wonton with the chili oil and sauce. The feeling was just the perfect amount when you took a bite you got a little bit of the meat portion but the sauce because it was covering it so nicely with a little bit of the crunch it just was a great mix of textures and flavors and the chili oil itself wasn't spicy it was just flavorful it had spices. I will say the group of three eight pretty much everything except maybe one spare rib. We almost had to roll ourselves out of there but it was so worth it and I would highly recommend checking this place out but word of caution do not go if you are hungry because again this place is popular and you might have to wait so make sure you have a good amount of time and that you're allowing yourself to really enjoy the space and try out all the deliciousness.

I went from a thin top to a medium weight sweater. We arrived in Davis I grabbed my jacket to pair with my sweater. Today was a day spent exploring Davis to see the California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Arts (CCACA). What a great Conference. We come each year for this Conference and explore Davis every time we are here. After exploring the first building of the show it was coming on time to eat. We looked around the current shopping center and my husband didn't see anything he was craving. He said we'll go more into town and look for a noodle place. He said he remembered one from our last visit, down one of the alleys. Walking up the street we saw a couple of advertisements. A sandwich board was on the sidewalk for Davis Noodle CIty, the exact place we were looking for. The little Noodle Shop in the alley. We weaved through the other businesses, past the dumpling restaurant, past the outdoor seating and to the front door of the Davis Noodle City Restaurant. The out door seating looked really welcoming, but it was chilly out so we opted for eating inside with the other table that was occupied. There were 3 parties eating outside when we arrived. When we walked inside we were greeted and told to take any table. We choose a table in the corner. The menus were under the glass table top, keeping it clean and easy to read. Each place setting had its own copy of the menu. After looking at the menu, remembering what was offered on the sandwich board in front, and cross referencing it with Yelp Reviews we started ordering. We opted for the Five Spice Beef Noodles, and I asked if that was a good option and she said it was their top seller. The Yelp Reviews were only ok for that dish, but I took our chances. The second dish we ordered was the Dan Dan Noodles She tried to upscale us to the one with vegetables, but that dish was a cold dish so we when for the standard Dan Dan Noodles. Both dishes came out quickly. The Dan Dan noodles were not spicy as I anticipated, which was good, I wasn't really looking for spicy. I liked the flavor and realized that if you mixed it up there is a sauce on the bottom that is really tasty. Dan Dan Noodles ($8.25 a steal) is a solid dish and I highly reccomend it. It's a great bowlful of noodles. If you are hopping for other ingredients you are out of luck, it's 100% noodles with a sprinkling of peanuts on top and a sauce on the bottom. The Five Spice Beef Noodle Soup ($12.75)was as described in the reviews. It comes with American Broccoli and carrots. The beef is so good it melts in your mouth. The broth is minimal and lacked flavor. I'd think that it's advertised as Five Spice that it would have more flavor. I don't reccomend it if you are looking for a strong flavor. If you are looking for great meat, that melts in your mouth, but is also a little fatty then you have the perfect dish. Both dishes came with fresh noodles, none of those dried and rehydrated noodles that some places serve. The noodles on both dishes were different and pleasant. I highly reccomend their fresh noodles. Customer service was good. She came to check up on us and was pleasant. Parking is street parking. And they have a bathroom on site that is clean and well stocked.
