It's Jan 2 and the store is empty of both customers....and food! The shelves are empty, or almost so, of eggs, bread, lettuce and other veggies....even the "Reduced for Quick Sale" bin! I sure hope this doesn't last, as I worry it won't be long before I read a headline in the local paper announcing that, "Star Market Sold to Soviet Supermarket Chain". The only reason why I'm giving this four stars instead of five is because I needed help with a few items, and some people were really helpful, and surprisingly some... Didn't know how to read, and only point. I was looking for a specific item ... I even spelled it out for the lady and she kept on pointing at items as this is that ? I'm like can you read ? They're definitely short staffed. However, the bagger was really nice and even went the extra mile and help me with my bundles out of the store. Really needs to up their produce game; not enough leafy greens, much too overpriced. Rest of the store is fine, generally. Decent selection of eggs, milk products. Fish counter is excellent - often times one can get some skin-on fish other than salmon. read more

Norf here Wow this is a tough crowd. Verbally assaulted in the parking lot because when I stopped to let a woman cross I may have mistakenly had the front of my car in the cross walk . she just went oopsie on me then some rather queer character started yelling stuff. Due to a recent surgery I have limited hearing so could not understand all being said but no one seemed happy. Later I found out the high prices make this cliental edgy. I prefer market Basket,the workers their barely speak English but always have a smile on their face and ready to help. I will say the Starbucks in this location is really nice. read more

Wow, writing this review just so I remember to avoid this place in the future. Why is everything so expensive here? I really should have read the reviews before I shopped here. I had a long grocery list but decided to only buy half of what I wanted. I did see a discounted section for frozen food. The sign read something like due to a power outage issue, we are selling these frozen products at 50% off. I took a minute to read this sign, and this older lady walked by and said I wouldn't risk getting sick to eat that stuff. I didn't have a problem with the clerks. Yes, they were slow, but that's tolerable because I was not in a rush. Won't be back. read more

Went to star market today for Farro and Ezekiel Bread. Both of these were advertised in stock on the app. I asked three associates, none guided me in the right direction. The girls sitting at the customer service desk kept chatting and had no idea how to help. Another associate told me to check the frozen food aisle but didn't know which aisle. Finally the last associate told me he didn't speak English. Anyway I left empty handed and went elsewhere with BETTER prices and BETTER customer service. read more

Overpriced everything and the poorest meat selection I've ever seen. Everyone who works there is rude and miserable. Customer service desk has people working there who aren't 21 yrs old so they can't do certain transactions which isn't allowed if I'm not mistaken. The aager I hear them call him Jay, is the biggest a *hole I've ever encountered. He definitely hates his job. What people don't get is that customers service should always be at a 10 when working in these types of settings/ industries!!. Anything less is unacceptable. Te way they treat people is egregious to say the least and they have as in the store too..big ones!!. The general manager of this location is an evil wicked man who treats people like trash. Saw another comment that this place is racist and I could not agree more. We always do a self-checkout and their faulty scale will throw off and call for "help." 100% of the time their staff will treat us as if we were stealing. Their behavior including not saying a word (I'm not exaggerating), unbagging all of the items, and not making eye contact. They never once acknowledged that their system made an error. It's ashamed and I know this kind of behavior comes from the top when staff are encouraged to treat people this way. Not a great grocery store. The typical experience here starts with a poorly designed parking lot that makes it difficult to maneuver and find a spot. Like a lot of the other reviews say, the staff usually isn't very friendly so I usually prefer to use the self checkout line if I don't have a lot of stuff to buy. The selection is okay but the prices are kind of on the high side, I prefer to go to Trader Joe's when I can. read more

The worst supermarket in all of Massachusetts. They hire incompetent people who don't speak English and that's bad for business when doing a transaction with your credit card and get charged for items you didn't want charged on your card!!!!!!!!!!!. This would've never ever happened if the cashier spoke and understood English. And other employees are lacking customer service and are extremely rude to paying customers. Would it be to much to ask that someone man the bakery counter? Everytime I go to the bakery it is either unmanned or the clerk will not turn around to see anyone at the counter. I have to walk either to the customer service to ask for help or try walking around the store trying to find someone to speak to. Not worth the trip. Also would it be to hard for the cashier to say Hello? Most, not all look as if they would rather be elsewhere. I was too late getting to Market basket and decided to go to star market was very dissed. Milk was at 3.50 cent a gallon, coffee cream through the roof and in order to get a sale it was like buy 10 or five of the item to obtain the discount. You can get a good idea of overpriced store by how much they charge for dairy. This must be an independently owned store to have prices that high. Avoid this store unless desperate and everything else is closed. read more

First time shopping here. Issues: No bags for fruit trays. It was placed in a paper bag and the lid wasn't taped down so it opened in the car. Disaster. No baggers on duty. Greeting cards are outside the shopping area and in front of the store past the registers. The "stationery" isle had no stationery. Definitely a great layout for food but the other isles are cramped so I didn't bother going into that maze. read more

I'm going to upgrade Star further to 3.5. Point to remember, I had started Star at 2.5 stars. They were making efforts to get better and improving product lines. I have been further impressed: -The wine selection is quite nice -They added Ben & Jerry's Non Dairy ice creams which is nice - in fact they have quite a decent non dairy selection. Need to get Fomu in here. Perhaps I can broker a deal. if you're the Star GM and you're reading this (nice job in front of town council by the when going for your alcohol license) hit me up to discuss that I'd like you give local company Fomu some space in your freezer. they're in WF too. - pizza dough is pretty good - WF is still one of my favorites (and one of the brands sold at Market basket but hey) - more and more organic produce - they are still letting too much produce get old on occasion, but for the most part, the selection is good and prices have been as good or better than produce prices at other organic sellers keep up the good work! Two stars for good salad bar and soup selection. There are not enough quick, healthy options for lunch in the area...so, congrats on being the only game in town, I guess? This store is always weirdly busy, and the parking lot is insane. Employees here are amazingly rude, and if they went any slower they would be going backwards. That wouldn't be a problem if there was a self-check option- but nope! You have to deal with staff only interested in chatting with each other and rolling their eyes. Fun times! Found meat on the shelf with an expiration date several weeks ago, 11/3/18. We have had to return smelly, rotten shrimp and out of date milk on other occasions. This store is close to home so appealing for a quick grocery store run but they need to work on keeping it clean and healthy for customers. read more

My new favorite thing is the Volume Discounts. If you buy three $6.99 containers of cut mixed fruit they'll knock off a buck or two each. But does anyone really want *three* of these things all at once? A big family, you say? Show me the Family Size breakfast cereal and we'll talk. It gets better. Buy six (yes SIX) six-packs of the 20oz. Mountain Dew bottles and get them for $1.99 each (must buy six). Does anyone want to guess how much shelf-space is afforded for, say, 20 oz. six-packs of Diet Mountain Dew? Enough for exactly ONE customer per re-stock to enjoy the discount. That means every time someone takes advantage of the buy-six discount, unless the store immediately re-stocks the item (good luck with that), the sale is effectively over because there's fewer than six left to buy. If anyone from corporate STAR Market actually receives this and/or responds, I will be shocked -- and impressed. I've tried for years to communicate with STAR Market Customer Service -- with no luck at all. So I'll go this route -- maybe they'll read this. I've been a customer of the Belmont STAR Market since it opened -- know most of the staff there, especially the friendly, helpful folks, such as Jim in Produce, Inna at the front, Steve in Deli -- but can someone please get Steve the Store Manager, Mike in Bakery, Katherine in floral to smile, occasionally -- especially for customers who are there often? And, re: the recent renovations -- lovely, but irrelevant if the customer can no longer find the products they need, which in my case, numbers about 10 - 15 products I used to buy at STAR but now cannot find, which has forced me to shop at the competition (especially since Jeff Bezos promises to lower prices at Whole Foods). As I said -- if anyone responds to this, I'll increase my rating. Otherwise, STAR Markets needs to focus more on service, less on looks. read more

This store is the worst. Aside from the fact the store is so ridiculously expensive, the staff are just so rude. They don't even acknowledge you are standing there when you go to the register nor do they even say thank you when you're leaving. Not asking to make a best friend here...just common courtesy, folks. I have lived in Belmont For 30 years and used to shop here every week for my family. What has happened to this store? I go to this location because it is close to my home, but I have had multiple unfortunate trips where the cashier has overcharged me for my groceries, or not given me the sale price. You have to be very sure to check the prices and compare with the mymixx deals. I never can find the items I want anymore ... Isles are filled with displays that are in the way... And prices have increased . This used to be an okay store, but since they redid the store I've had to find another place to shop. The wine and liquor section is convenient, but they have also brought in many more gourmet, upscale items, at ridiculous prices, and eliminated a lot of the basic grocery items that I need. I would rather be able to get basic items here, and pay lower prices for gourmet items elsewhere (even at Whole Foods the prices are lower!) And it's true, as another review mentions, that the cashiers can be pretty rude. Obviously there's no "be nice to the customers" company policy here. read more

BEWARE during the pandemic of this store. Went here on a Saturday, and no one counting people outside or in, it was a free for all to come and go. There is a sign stating 100 person capacity but if no one counts who come and goes then what good is it. Also no one was wiping down cart. People were dropping them and taking them like everything was normal. MARKET BASKET has great procedures with capacity management and cart cleans. The best is Trader Joe's in Brighton. They keep all carts separate from what's clean and what's dirty, they sanitizer your hands when you enter etc. Star Market Belmont is just a pool of germs and no accountability. I've lived in 10 states and many more cities. I've also shopped at many supermarkets. The Star Market has fine food, at top prices. It also holds a record for hiring the slowest employees, training them for days and days in the fine art of not being able to locate the proper place to scan your groceries, not knowing what basic vegetables are or what codes to enter into the machine, and otherwise operating at a lifeless pace. For a time I shopped here because it was close to home-- but I discoverers it was far quicker (and cheaper) to drive an extra 15 minutes away. read more

Really poor produce. They will sell fruit whether it is good or not. I've bought watermelon, opened it up and it was mush. So messy that I couldn't bring it back. Yet when I complained and wanted a refund with my receipt (which they did) they warned me that from now on I would have to bring back the product--really? I had never been to this grocery store before. It was clean well lit and organized. Was in search of a quick no frills dinner. Grabbed a turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread.. they even had horseradish instead of mayonnaise packets. I hadn't eaten a sandwich in years. It was amazing. Although I removed half of the bread. I wish the grocery stores near me were as clean and well lit as this star market. It was a pleasure to shop there. read more

As large chain grocery stores go this one is pretty good. They keep employees and most of them smile. On quick sale meat products they cover what the meat is with a coupon so you literally are guessing about the cut. They don't have a trash barrel at one entrance so there is always litter in that part of the store (D&D cups, cigarette butts etc), unpleasant. Yup, that's it. read more

Really bad experiences here lately. It's always been overpriced, but we used to go frequently for the convenience as it is close to our home. However, the last few times we have been there the food has been spoiled. All of the berries in produce are covered in white mold. The hummus has a coating of green mold across the top (though it's factory expiration date is not for over a month). When we were returning some items we found spoiled after purchasing, there was a line of other customers returning spoiled meats and other groceries. Clearly there is a problem with quality control here, will be driving the extra distance to other stores from now on. read more

I absolutely hate this place. Everything is super expensive. I can never find anything because the store layout is so weird. There's never any place to park and its always super busy. Theres usually only two or three cashiers so it takes forever to check out. No one in the aisle to ask for help. You should check out the market basket in waltham. SOOO much better! read more
