Noticed no one has reviewed since they renovated... the people must know how convenient this store really is!! I am new to the area and went for the first time tonight because I read online they carried a specific brew I was looking for. When I arrive, I was amazed by how great this place really is... think Whole Foods meets your liquor and convenience needs. All the food items had a hand picked feel, health conscious options with such variety! One of the stores family members (I believe the owners son) was as the register and was such a pleasure to speak with -- very friendly and polite. I told him I was so exited to find the store and that I will definitely be coming back! We're a big fan of local businesses, and try to visit them before going to the big chains. The older cashier, who we think is the owner, need to be more appreciative of customers who go out of their way to help Francis. He is constantly on his cell phone, and never ask if you need help. No smile or pleasantries. If you ask for a bag for your items, he literally throws it at you. Worse customer service EVER! This family has given up on Francis Food Mart!! read more

This is a great little neighborhood store than holds more than you might think as you drive by. In addition to grocery basics, they have a nice beer and wine area and a good selection to choose from. Their meats are also quite good and you can get a fresh sub made at the deli (Boar's Head meats) at very reasonable costs. It looks a bit old, but it's generally clean and well kept. (update) My wife went in a few weeks ago to get some stuff and chatted up the owner. They make all their own bread (and could only sell her a medium Italian sub for me because they were out of bread) as well as all of the side dishes available at the deli. A small shop on Belmont Street...who knew that it would have EVERYthing that I need in a grocery fix?! It is the first convenience store that is actually both convenient and useful! *A good selection of wines, beers, cereals, tea, snacks, cards, sauces, soup, some meat and produce (fresh!), and the list goes on! The only things I couldn't find here was mint. *Limited parking, but hoards of people aren't in at all times (makes for fast in-and-out). *GREAT prices! *Wonderful staff, all are quite helpful. I love this place! If I just have to pick up a few things for dinner or for the game, I know I can stock up on the necessities here. read more

I like this store because it is quick and easy to get in and out of. They stock most things you need. It is in the style of the grocery stores I grew up with as a kid. It doesn't look new but it serves the purpose well. The wine selection is pretty good if you need to pick up a bottle on your way somewhere, better even than some of the other liquor stores in the area. Cool medium sized market with an emphasis on keeping it original (as in the 1950's) and it works, almost. Limited selection for food but they have beer and wine. Overpriced. Funky smell upon entry. It's all part of the charm though and fortunately it's still there.... read more

This place is just down the street from us so we come here a lot. They recognize us & they're always super friendly. This place has a great beer selection, heavy on IPAs, and they have a small case near the door where they have singles if you just need 1 can of something or want to try something new. They've got a nice wine selection, too. I like Malbecs, and usually if you go to a store that isn't specifically a wine or liquor store you'll see 1 or 2 of these, but Francis Food Mart has several. The place is old with tiles coming up off the floor & old cereal mascots from the 70's on the wall, which is all part of its charm. The rest of the store besides the wine & beer is somewhat sparsely stocked, with empty shelves here & there, but that's not to say they don't have a good selection. You can always find a good snack or seltzer variety or unusual tea or juice drink. Or just some ice cream, a frozen dinner, or some milk. And hot coffee, too. I love coming up with excuses to come to Francis. Cool old place with great character, and who doesn't need to try one of the Deep River chip flavors from time to time? read more

Great prices on wine - love the old fashioned 50s feel of the joint. Part of me wants to say - spruce it up - put in a new floor (the existing floor is pretty skeevy) and cater to the yuppie crowd with more up to date products. The other part of me wants it to stay the same - (however, still replace that crappy floor!) Bring in more fresh local produce and make the deli section more appealing. read more

Has a decent selection of produce, necessities, wine. Hit or miss selection of beer (always has basics like Bud Light and Sam Adams but occasionally will have some Dog Fish Head or other esoteric microbrews). Pricing is about on par with Shaw's or other supermarket for produce, quality varies - sometimes they have fantastic, fresh-looking food, sometimes whatever's left on the shelf looks a little tired. My only gripe is their somewhat limited hours of operation Sunday (12 - 5), which mean that if I want to grab some eggs or milk for breakfast on a Sunday morning I'm stuck going to Shaw's. read more

A unique old-style moderately sized grocery store with all the basics, though a little pricey on some items. A great alternative to wandering around the standard supermarket and waiting in line to pay. I love the specials on meat and there is always stuff on sale. That's what gets me in there. They carry the Shur-fine budget brand. I'd guess this is a family run business that has been there for years. And I'll bet they make most of their money on alcohol. The small town feel is nice. Check out staff is pleasant and friendly. Don't expect much sparkle though. Profit margins in grocery stores are very low so you have to forgive the floor, deli case and meat and dairy areas. For the old-timers, to show you the history of this place, there is actually a faded sign still hanging from the ceiling of a young Kate Smith (1907-1986) advertising Chase and Sanborn coffee. Hidden gem all the way! We just moved into town and happen to be out for a run. My fiancé noticed a few good beer selections in the window. We decided to stop in later on during the day and still can't get over the beer selection. They have a unique and hard to find selection combined with the classics. Been shopping there off and on since 2003. Perfect little market to get a few things. Easy parking. Everyone is always friendly. I love getting sub sandwiches there because they are made to order. Prices tend to be higher than the bigger supermarkets but the convenience factor is huge. They also sell wine & beer which is a huge plus. And it's old school which adds to the charm. read more

I'm totally fed up with Shaws' inflated prices and poor quality produce. Francis Food Mart is a great neighborhood market that fills about 90% of my grocery needs, with helpful workers and good prices. My extended Family has been going here for three generations. Ignore the fact we all live within a square mile of this location but that's besides the point. When I'm not stopping off to pick up a couple items for the house, I'll grab a homemade Italian sub made in front of me, by someone who knows what an italian sub is supposed to look like. Don't judge the store by it's sign and location. Walked around today shoping. I was impressed with the choices and the prices. I could get the type of eggs and milk I like, same as you'd look for at Whole Foods. The prices were good, avacados cheaper than Russo's. The home made food was a surprise, so I purchased some to try tonight. Amazing deals on the fresh meat.. Looks old, but so what if I want to support a local owner. I can stop here on my way back from Waltam Field Community Farm. read more

Great place, great produce...horrible hours! That's the only think keeping this from 5 stars! I get that it's a small store, but without much else close (aside from super expensive star market) it's very inconvenient. At least stay open until 10?! Maybe open a little earlier on Sundays? While I still appreciate their variety and kindness, I have to downgrade my review a little bit. I have had some issues with their meat that they sell there- Although they have decent prices and sales, I have found their meat to be inconsistent in it's freshness and after getting sick a few times, I avoid it. One of the cashiers told me that if I want to buy meat, buy it at Shaws because they are less concerned about overhead and expiration dates than a small store like this. The other issue I have had is with frozen items. I think their freezers are calibrated incorrectly and frozen items like ice cream are always either a weird consistency or freezer burned. This should be an easy fix but in the years I have been going there, no one has changed anything. It's a shame because I really like the store as a whole. read more

Never going there again, went to get a bottle of wine and biers, showed my ID, my ID got refused because it's not a MA one!!!!! Are you saying that any other State is not providing valid ID. Got asked for my passport instead, well like every normal human being not traveling around I don't carry it around. So to sum up I am 28, with a valid ID and they refuse to sell me goods! Went in for the first time since the workers at Market Basket went on strike, I have found that this place has the closest prices to Market Basket, they have a full deli with prepared foods, a great selection of beer and wine with a large selection of craft beers. From the outside this place looks like a very small storefront but when you walk in you quickly realize that they have just about anything you would need. I was surprised that this place had so much to offer so close to home, they also have excellent meats to offer, the only downside I have found is that they don't carry hard liquor. read more
