Please believe the reviews and do not come here. This was the only place open on Labor Day and I'm visiting on vacation, I came here to get my nails done, and they were not installed correctly. When you looked underneath, you could see the separation between my nail and the acrylic. I went back to ask them to fix it, and his response was to file down the under sides of my nails Instead of fixing them. This resulted in pain and blood underneath my nails. Had to take a painkiller to enjoy my day in Seattle. Avoid this place they should just close down. Additionally, the guy that was doing my nails, kept trying to continuously make jokes with me and other customers when he clearly should have just been focusing on his job. read more

My review does not include any services as I was turned away before I could even give them a try. While visiting Bainbridge, I walked into Whimsy Nails to see if I could get a manicure. The two employees stopped what they were doing and both asked me if I had an appt. When I said, no, I don't - they both chimed back with, "Sorry". And nothing else. Didn't even ask if I could come back later, or schedule an appt for another time/day. Was weird & kind of rude! They had one person who walked in before me, and another person receiving a pedicure. I get pedicures first and Foremost to have a relaxing experience amd second to get exfoliate, get rid of callouses, etc. this was, by far, the worst pedicure I have ever had. She spent maybe one minute combined soft scrub and massage, and then if it were 10 seconds that would be generous on taking care of calluses. Did absolutely nothing for cuticles. Then I had nail dipping done and they are all lumpy and uneven. All the buildup along my cuticles is terrible. The bill for both was over $100. I would say the actual value of what I had done was maybe $40. They just seemed in a huge rush to get you in and out and there was zero attention to detail. Save your money read more

The man there did my pedicure. It was fine until the nail polish. Put on thin, could see nail through. He called it good, said "I applied three times", and went talk on the phone. We were the only people in the salon. I mentioned it to the woman and she redid the nails on each big toe which I appreciated. This was gel, which is suppose to last. We arrived only after walking uphill, making a wrong turn, and thinking the person on the other line was saying they were located by Spaceway, what Spaceway, oh Subway downtown on the upper level, no not Subway, Spaceway, ohh Safeway. I was impressed by the steady stream of customers at this salon on a Saturday afternoon. Our pedicures were $30 each and included the typical massage chair deal and foot massage. I believe it was the owner who actually took care of us, and she was friendly. So-so experience overall. read more

Thank you Kim and Billy for a lovely experience today. I called ahead mid-day and was told they could fit me in late afternoon. My first visit, and I'm so happy to have found them. Clean and pleasant environment. Love the massage chairs... perhaps I could just come in and rent one of those for a half hour?! I'm a low maintenance pedi gal... no polish. Just wanted to get my nails trimmed and feet freshened up. Absolutely delighted with my experience. Pro tip: call in advance! And be understanding... this is a hard working couple running a business in a small town. This is not a big city/urban nail salon mill. A number of people dropped in and unfortunately had to be turned away, and seemed disappointed. Seriously?! Plan ahead, and come in and relax. Remember to bring your flip flops. Hands down the worst pedicure I've ever had. The polish was all over my cuticles on every single toe and applied so sloppy that it is sheer in some spots and clumpy in others. The nails were trimmed unevenly. My heels look EXACTLY the same as they did when I went in - which is not great. No even close to a $30 value. Save your money. read more

Don't come here. Just don't. Mani/pedis are a treat for me and I decided to splurge and get one before an international trip. I've come here before and I wasn't happy, so I decided to give it another shot. Same experience. It was rushed, the lady cut my toe down too far and it bled and I just felt like they don't care about their customers, but about the $. Just slow down and pay attention to detail, please. You cannot charge what you charge with the service you are doing. It's wrong and I'm done. I paid $60 because I wasn't going to sit there and argue with them on how unhappy was. I've had nails done here for 3 years. They are so friendly and strive to quickly accommodate walk-ins. Unfortunately, I've witnessed other customers treating the owner and his wife poorly by trying to book groups and then not showing up. Once a lady walked out without paying because the card machine wasn't working, but she didn't come back with cash. Be kind people! And tip at least 20%. read more

I had four hours to spend on Bainbridge and needed a pedicure. I asked the three ladies at the coffee shop where I had lunch and they universally agreed on "the nail place next to the Safeway." No one knew the name. I was helped right away. The lady who worked on me was cheerful, friendly, gentle and professional and my nails look fine. Lovely foot massage including some nice hot stones. I would go back for the foot massage alone. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because I reserve that for foofy, spa-type salons. For a walk-in nail salon, this was just fine. read more

Worst Pedicure Ever! $30 bucks to basically have oil rubbed all over your feet and legs and your toes painted. She barely touched my toenails that needed trimming, didn't clean up the cuticles, and did a very light scrub of the dead skin on my feet. A very lengthy lower leg and foot rub, not massage was done with a massive amount of oil. When I got home I had to take a towel to my legs before sitting on any furniture. I still had rough feet and peeling skin from an old blister. I do not recommend anyone go here. Too much money for someone to paint your toes. So disappointed. read more

I have been going to Star Nail for a few months now. After work on Friday a few us go down here and have pedi's. I have had three different people work on my toes, all of which have been very kind and the pedi was great. One woman who's name I don't know is wonderful. She spends at least 30 minutes on me and I have gotten a pedi from her at least 3 times. I walk away with fresh paint and my feet always feel "Jello" relaxed. Sure they speak Vietnamese to each other while you are in the chair but what do you want... a mute robot? Star Nail is a great place. The staff is friendly and hardworking. The atmosphere isn't much but there is usually Oprah or Dr. Phil playing on the huge flat screen on the wall. Which always makes me giggle. read more

DO NOT COME HERE. I've been here 4 times and every single time has been a complete disaster! They always seem to rush me out of the place and pay no attention to detail. Every single time I've left with the absolute worst shellac manicure I've ever had, rough & sharp nails, uneven nails, they forgot to apply top coat. They really can't seem to get it right. There was no hot water this time for our pedicures and on top of all that the owner often does mine and my mothers nails!! Today I went with my mom and grandma and we all left practically crying (well I did actually cry) because our nails were so terrible. I just got engaged and this is not the nail job I wanted to show case my beautiful ring. I will have to go someplace else tomorrow to redo this awful mani-pedi. The first time I went here wasn't as bad, I got a shellac manicure done for $35 and it was a decent job. Unfortunately it started chipping eariler than the previous one I had done (at another nail salon). The last time I went there it took for ever to get in, and once we did I asked for a re color and my friend a manicure. They provided us both with the exact same service (she didn't get the manicure, just clipped nails and color) and still tried to charge her for that. When we went to leave they didn't want to take card, only cash and asked "How much do you have?" as I said I didn't have enough to pay in cash. I probably wont go back as there are other places that do an amazing job locally. read more

This place was utterly accomodating. We had walked right in and were able to helped immediately. It's funny because they were in such odd confusion. For one what were two guys doing getting pedicures? For two, what was an Asian boy doing getting a pedicure? On Bainbridge Island? This lady was clearly confused. The perks of being Vietnamese are that usually people at nail salons will usually never talk shit about you. That's why I don't speak Vietnamese or let them know until it absolutely calls for it. It's a fun decoy. The pedicures were $30 each and they were good, they had a good sense of what they were doing and that was great. The ladies were a good time, we eventually carried a full conversation on in Vietnamese in front of other people who couldn't understand anything we were saying. The environment inside is a bit sterilized and fragmented with picture strung about on the walls in every so direction. Being that they are in a strip mall, you can't expect a spa - but if they were to maybe meet somewhere in the middle and make for a refined, classy establishment... perhaps they will excel in their competition on the island (and as the owner told me... it's only one other nail salon). read more

We were in town on vacation, and went in for two pedicures. They pointed to 2 chairs and did not say anything except "pick a color" for polish. They proceeded to give only one of us a pedicure, but did not say from the get-go that they could only accommodate one at a time. The man who gave me the pedicure was WATCHING TV THE WHOLE TIME. His head was turned away from my feet. Ridiculous. They used very cheap nail clippers of the $2 store variety, and barely came near or touched/trimmed our cuticles at all. Although there is a Visa/MasterCard sign on the front window, they insisted on cash only and had the nerve to say "how much do you have? We don't need tip." They refused our credit card. This place gave me one of the worst shellac manicures. Half of my nails were not painted correctly with the colour overlapping on my skin and very uneven and bumpy. I was told the paint on my skin would come off in the shower. Come on, do it right the first time. (My 7 year old could have painted my nails better). I told Lee I was unhappy and that they did not look good. Nothing but a shrug. The nail polish started to peel and chip less than 3 hours post manicure. Lee was in such a hurry as more clients were coming in and he was trying to accommodate them as well. My pedicure was very mediocre and still left with my feet in the same condition as before. I do a better job of giving myself a pedicure. The price was ridiculous for the services received. Stay away. Side note: I also noticed after my pedicure Lee rinsed the foot bath area and did not disinfect. GROSS. Update: I requested my money back and was told by Lee they do not do that. He said he would fix them and I told him I did not want him to be the one to fix them and requested someone else to do it. He flat out refused and said that he would do it. I did not want another crappy, rushed job. This place is CRAP and the owner is very unreasonable. I guess that they do not care if their work is bad as long as they get their money. read more

My nails are ruined!! Doing a quick google search I found the salon online and called to see if I could get a gel manicure in 15 min (I was getting off the Bainbridge ferry). I thought it was awesome that the lady said she would wait for me (it was close to 6p on a Monday). It was hard to find their salon, they didn't know their street address. I found them an ms a gentleman sat me down to do my nails. I had an old gel manicure (acquired elsewhere) that had grown out. There were a few chips and he started using his cuticle scissors to tear the old gel off my nails. I told him that I didn't want him to pull it off, to please soak them. He said something in another language and continued to peel away the old gel on 4 of my nails. I told him several times that I did not want him ripping off the old polish, pulling my hand away. He soaked off about 5 nails, and used a drill for the rest and still kept trying to tear off the polish! I should have just left. While using the drill he kept talking to another non-customer in the salon and I had to pull my hand away several times because the drill was getting so hot and was being used heavy-handedly on my nails. Again, I asked him to soak off the polish (it was not thick!) I should have just got up and left. He rushed on two coats of polish, the timing of my hand under the light varied since no timer was used, and It seemed like I was never under the light longer than 20 seconds. I asked him to please unglue my nail from the skin around/under my nail, and he replied in another language and never fixed them. I then asked him to please give me a file because I had rough edges (from top coast being half assed tossed under and on the side of my nails tips) he looked at them, shrugged and said in perfect English "$25." I was not in the salon longer than 20 minutes. He never cleaned up my cuticles, or under my nails, never used hand lotion, never used a smidge of respect. I should have left. My nails have been chipping and there are spider cracks on the tips of every nail because he tore/ripped and filed down my nails and they are so flimsy and thin, I'm afraid of the months ahead of me having to grow them back out! I was out of the spa by 6:20p. Found out later they normally close at 7p. I have no idea why I was rushed. He ruined my nails. Never go to this place! read more

This was the worst full set I have ever gotten! They did not know how to shape my nails event though I said multiple times how I wanted them. Almost all of my nails were crooked, just horrible. Had a pedi here while house-sitting, so this is not my usual place. I just needed to have pretty toes before an upcoming foot surgery (for real) and didn't want to dump my paycheck on a basic pedicure. My pedicurist was male, which was a little strange at first, but I have to say, he did a nice job. The polish was absolutely flawless, and he shaped my nails with a file rather than cut them too short, as sometimes happens in other nail salons. When I got home, my husband took a look and said "Wow...Pret-ty!" with a smile on his face. This place is definitely worth the $30, although the 'ambience' was lacking. I'm not a fan of overhead lighting, so the flourescents overhead were my least favorite part of the experience. If there were a 3.5 stars, I'd give 'em that, since I wouldn't say "yeah! I'm a fan" but "A-OK" seems a little low key. If you're looking for a good pedi without paying for a spa-like atmosphere, this is your place. read more

I've been popping into this place for years and taking my young daughter with me. We even followed them from location to location. The pricing was dicey the last time we went in, but I thought it was an exception. The last two times we've gone in, they've raised the price for a mani pedi for my daughter...She is young, and usually they only do about 5 minutes of work. Her feet get wet, get dry, trimmed, then they polish. Her hands just get trimmed and polished, never wet. They wanted to charge the "grown up" price. I am new to BI and have been looking for a local salon for my semi-monthly mani / pedi. I was a long time client of my local salon back in CA (went to the same place 2x each month for 15+ years) so finding a new 'home' is important to me. I've been to Star Nails three times now. Each time I've met other BI regulars (always a good sign), and each time I've gotten a great mani and pedi. Equally important is that the staff recognized me as a repeat (they did a wonderful job of making me feel welcome on my last visit). read more
