I don't understand why this nail salon isn't more highly rated because I had a great experience and I will definitely be back! I really wanted a pedicure on new years but my usual salon was closed. Thankfully I found star nails and they happily squeezed me in despite being pretty busy! They gave me candy and water white I waited while starting my warm foot bath. Niki was attentive to my needs and comfort while she was bustling around trying to finish everyone's nails. The staff remained so calm and I was happy to wait- only took an hour total for a beautiful gel pedicure and an amazing massage! The prices are reasonable and the ambiance is great. Where do I begin??? I had heard bad stories about them but I thought I should see for myself. I was leaving for a month to go to Japan and I wanted my nails to look good. When I walked in there was one woman doing the nails on a customer and a male worker sleeping in one of the pedicure chairs, otherwise it was completely empty. That should have been my first clue.I stood there for probably five minutes and nobody noticed me so I finally said "hey are you guys open?" The lady yelled at the sleeping guy and he jumped up and he was the one that was going to do my pedicure " Andy". I told him I was going to Japan for a month and wanted my toes to look good. He handed me a "menu" of their services to choose from. I picked the most expensive one, 70.00. He began my pedicure and one of my big toe nails was cracked. He told me this and I said whatever we need to do to fix it let's do. He ended up clipping off the entire toenail. Now I had this happen last year on my opposite foot's toenail, and the girl at the time put a gel type nail on it and it was awesome! I thought that this was what Andy was going to do for me as well, or something along those lines. No, he put on two fake nails and painted them. He then had a votive candle burning on the table next to him. He proceeded to dribble hot wax on my legs and rub it in. I had never had this done either. When I went to pay Andy said 90.00. I repeated it and said ninety? He said yes I was trying to figure out where the extra 20.00 had came from. Anyways I paid and even tipped him 25.00. I left. We left for Japan two days later. When we got to our hotel in Tokyo I pulled off my socks and my big toenail that Andy had put on went flying across the room. Underneath look absolutely gross. Welp I guess I won't be wearing my Sandles while I'm here. I took a picture of it for proof. Fast forward to yesterday, we got home from Japan and I stopped in to star spa. I asked for the manager and this man walked over and said he was the manager. I explained what had happened with my toenail and I showed him the pictures. He began arguing with me that they had done nothing wrong and also why had I waited a month before coming in to talk to them. I said because I was in JAPAN!!!!!! I said what did you want me to do ? End my vacation and fly home? He kept arguing with me and he said "well we are not going to give you another pedicure" I said I'm not asking for a free pedicure I'm just asking you to be reasonable and fix my big toenail, he said they wouldn't. So I said "you're not going to do the right thing and fix it?" He said no. That's when I lost it and I said ok well I'm going to write a review on your business so that nobody else gets treated this way. What horrible customer service! I was so angry, I sat in my car shaking for a few minutes. So this is some key points to consider IF you are even thinking about going there. 1- the place is always slow,maybe at the most three customers, there's a reason why! 2- the place is dirty. 3- the employees are asleep in the massage chairs! 4- the "menu" cards are old,dirty and torn. 5- all they care about is the money, and charge ridiculous amounts. 6- I believe this is why they have really no customers, now I know why! 7- absolutely no customer service. 8- they drip hot wax on your legs and rub it in? 9- absolutely no customer service, oh I said that already but it needs to be said again! 10- they're employees don't even know how to apply a nail! Give them a few months and I will bet they close their doors. There are so many other nail salons in this town now that you could go to, anywhere but here! I will never set foot in their business again, and unless you want a mediocre job done, stiff prices, and a business owner who only cares about making a dollar and wax dripped all over your legs then don't say I didn't warn you. Last Thursday I had a manicure done at Star Salon. By Friday, 2 of the nails had completely lost the polish. Now, 2 more are gone. I stopped by the salon just now to let them know and show them in person. They first wanted to redo the manicure, but I told them that I have cancer and will be having surgery soon and preferred they just give my daughter credit. I have almost never in my life had a manicure and I don't want to spend my time on something superficial. The owner began to blame me for "moving my hands around" during the drying process. She never told me to stop moving my hands and furthermore, not being familiar with the process, how could I have known.?? She repeated at least 10 times that it was because I didn't hold my hands still....essentially blaming me! I finally asked her to please stop saying that. She had already said she would give me $20 back. Mind you, I spent over $100 on both the mani and pedi and gave them a $20 tip! I thanked her for her compassion and went on my way. read more

Came to star nails on a Sunday afternoon with my niece for pedicures. We were advised they were currently full but to come back around 1pm. We did so and I was a little frustrated that we still had to wait another 20 minutes to be seated but once we were it was wonderful. We revised pedicure from two of the men in the store. They took their time and were through and clean. Everything from the massage, hot stones and scrub was amazing and relaxing. They were clean with their application and both of our nails came out great. I also got a gel pedicure that was great. He cleaned and prepped my nails and even applied a couple colors to see which I enjoyed most. I never felt rushed or not through about. This is a phenomenal salon! Super friendly atmosphere and really great service. I didn't catch my nail tech's name but he was outstanding! I would give it zero stars if I could. The serious lack of hygiene is so concerning. The water/tubs for the pedicures didn't look clean at all, The rags they used seem to be just heated up after use not washed between customers and the woman cutting my nails cut the cuticle way way too short and now I have an infection in my toe. This is always been one of my biggest fears when getting a pedicure but I chose to give them the benefit of the doubt, and I was so so wrong. Would not recommend coming here at all! read more

She didn't clean or have me clean after she filed, and then didn't use a base coat. And then as I was leaving, I found out she charged me $10.00 more than the price listed. I have been going to Star Nails for several years and usually get dip nails and a gel pedicure. The gel pedicure is good, and the SNS usually stays for 3 weeks, but my most recent set didn't even last 5 days before the top coat was peeling off on almost all my fingers. Not only was the manicure rushed and aggressive, it is extremely frustrating to pay $40 for nails that don't last. She filed my nails down way shorter than I wanted, and several of them are misshaped. Not to mention when I called to make an appointment, they were rude and curt. I read all the great reviews and decided to go here for a pedicure and manicure. The nail tech first did the pedicure and I chose regular polish rather than shellac. This is never an issue, lasts almost as long for me and is easier to remove. It looked great initially but was severely chipped in about 3 days. I did not recognize the brand and assume they are using really cheap polish. Other than this, the actual pedicure was fine. The manicure is another story. I have had shellac and gel manicures for years but have never seen this very rushed technique. I did not suspect it would turn out well. She was having me put my entire hand under the light for each nail but for too short time while she did a nail on the other side. Then, I would switch back and forth like this for each nail. This resulted in a very bubbly lumpy looking manicure BUT it also started lifting around the edges the next day. When I finally tried to take the polish off about 1 week later, it wouldn't release in the middle - likely because it had been cooked on with so many times under the UV light. I will NEVER go here again or recommend this place. It was a huge waste of money. read more

Very happy to have finally found the best place to get your nails done in Bozeman! I stopped in for the first time to get a manicure without an appointment and they were able to get me started within minutes even though they already had women seated getting spa pedicures. I originally intended to get a shellac manicure, but was told they had another system call SNS (Salon Nail System) which had no smell, does not require a light treatment and lasts at least 2-3 weeks. I figured why not, since shellac never lasts more than a week for me anyways. To sum up my experience with the SNS manicure, WOW! It's amazing. I am extremely hard on my nails and a regular manicure lasts me 2 days, shellac 4-6 days. This SNS lasted 3 weeks, I kid you not! I have been back twice now and am very happy with my nails and the service they offer here. read more

I've been a customer here for a while but after today, I'm done. My nails are short (I'm a biter, ugh!) -- and I'm trying to grow them out. They suggested SNS for me (normally I do regular manicure or Shellac). Well they were simply trying to upsell me and I tried SNS. Later after getting the color all over my fingers, I pointed this out to them and they said "well your nails are too short for SNS." I said I didn't even ask for SNS, and I walked in wanting a regular manicure, but that I did it because they suggested it would be good for my nails. I went here two times in the last couple of months and quickly decided that Star Nails is not for me. Foremost, I chose to get acrylic, coffin shaped nails, but they were rounded giving them an almond shape instead of the coffin shape. Plus, they were thick and uneven. I probably would have went back and requested a sharper shape for the corners and asked for a thinner layer of acrylic. But I decided not to after two nails fell off of my right hand and three on my left--after a week and a half!! I went to a different local nail salon, and my nails are 100 percent better. I usually have satisfactory to excellent service at Star Nails. But today's experience goes to show how important it is who you get. Whatever you do refuse to get your nails done with Jason!!! He is rude disrespectful and actually hurt me more than once when he was trimming my cuticles. when I told him he was being a little rough he just rolled his eyes at me and acted disgusted, and went on being quite rough with me. Then he tried to talk me out of getting the design I wanted that he had originally said he could do, and when I told him I would prefer a different nail tech he jumped up grabbed his coat and stormed out of the salon!!! Thankfully a nail tech I've had before named Mac saved the day and came over and finished my manicure, gave me the design I wanted and was very kind, gentle and respectful.
