Honestly.. I knew from the first 10 minutes this wasn't gonna turn out at all how I wanted. For some reason a lot of people struggle with "claw" or "stiletto" nails. Ok fine.. but please for the love of god what is this not to mention less than a week later my thumb wasn't cured properly so it's literally peeling up do yourself a favor and don't get nails in Salem. Also the guy who did my nails kept catching the electric file on my skin around my nail I'm not super confrontational and have social anxiety so I'm just proud I made it to the car before I cried. I had to go back due to some nail damage, and they fixed it on the spot. Full set of new nails. I had never had my nails done, me and the hubby had a wonderful time. They have massage chairs that actually massage the back, we had fun. It was our first pedicure too, and we're going back. Hubby has diabetes, so his feet need extra care. They did wonderfully, and were very gentle with both of us. I would highly recommend this place, I'm going back again for October coffin nails! Thank you! read more

The shop looks pretty upscale, nice pedicure stations with beautifully tiled soaking tubs and newer massage chairs, but the fumes were almost overwhelming. Better ventilation would be a plus. The pedicure was substandard, and the polishing left a lot to improve upon. The technician, though very pleasant, over-polished my nails with several coats applied too quickly one after the other so they didn't dry adequately, and even after waiting almost an hour for them to dry, they smudged as soon as I went outside. I came back and showed her what had happened, so she repolished it exactly the same way. Sure enough, like tacky uncured glue they smudged again even before I got home. For $40+ the treat I wanted to give myself was pretty disappointing. I won't be back. read more

CUTTING CORNERS. I've been going to Star Nails for about 6 months. First time, the technician was cold to me, to the point where I had to ask if I did something wrong (guess she is a quiet one). Then I found David, who I really liked. But at the beginning of the year, prices went up (I understand that) & service has gone down. The last two times, no moisturizer or cuticle trim (unless done by the drill). Twice there have been obvious bubbles in my nails. This last time I found a bubble after I got in my car so returned & David fixed it by buffing it out & applying a glossy top coat (which he did to all nails last time but not this time) - so now I've got 1 glossy pointer finger & the others have a dull shine. Oh, and the $45+$10 tip took him 35 minutes. So, to me, they have raised prices, cut corners, & provide less service, so I won't be returning. However, I'm sure there are a lot of salons out there that are doing the same thing. Sad. read more

Do not go in with any design or expectations. Solid colors only and if it's an emergency. I was a fool and went in with a design in mind and provided an inspiration photo. The one with the sunflower was the inspiration, the other is the result. They advertise "ombré" but I don't think they know what that is or how to properly do it. Let's not even touch on the "sunflower" but at least she realized it was awful and didn't charge me for it. read more

He was helpful and into detail on my nails. He asked if my nails were too long or if they looked good. I enjoyed myself until I had a gift certificate and he charged me for the whole price and didn't remember I had a 40 dollar gift certificate from Christmas. They tried to give me Back my money but the manager said he was backed up so he can't do it. It was upsetting. read more

When we got there, they sat her four rows away, with my back to her and she was right next to the propped open door. I couldn't even see her the entire time. When I turned to check (while my nails were in the solution soaking, not during painting or filing) the lady told me to sit still! Then the paint job was HORRIBLE! Let me start this by saying that I've been here a handful of times and have had a decent experience but, my appointment from today has left me cringing. My nail tech had hands with a fraying bandaid, nail polish from previous appointments, dirt under the nails, peeling skin and extremely dry flaky hands. I was grateful that the nail tech slipped on a glove to rub lotion on before my polish went on. So many different protocols where not followed (I.E. using the techs fingers to rub the acetone onto my nails to clean before polish application). The manicure I received was one of the worst I have ever gotten and I will not return. read more

Ugh! I went in for a pedicure with my sisters. I had one toenail that had been torn a couple weeks ago from another salon who tore off my gel polish. I explained to the nail tech what happened and that part of my toe was still sore and to please be careful. She acknowledged and then began tearing off the gel polis Then when paying I was charged an extra $4. Not that $4 is going to break me, but to be charged extra for not even properly removing my polish is infuriating. read more

A woman was with a client, but gave me a business card and suggested I call for more information. I just did so and I was treated so poorly, I can barely believe it. I went to Star Nails for my first time on Saturday and my experience was amazing! I have tried a few different nail salons in Salem and haven't had great experiences but I loved everything here! They listened to what I wanted, were on time and very kind. The lady who did my full acrylic set (I can't remember her name) paid the most attention I've ever had to the sizing of the nails and quality of the acrylic set being straight and same sized. Annie gets 5 stars for sure because she does an amazing job on my toe nails. I have difficult nails to keep up because they curve on the sides and if you don't cut them properly I have terrible pain. But I was only able to give them 4 stars because the salon as a whole should be much cleaner. I went and got a pedicure and shellac manicure. I asked for a design on my toes and she looked confused. She did one and it wasn't bad but then did the topcoat too soon and smudged it. She noticed but didn't bother to fix it. I asked for it to be fixed and she put another topcoat on and said it was fixed. My shellac manicure turned out beautiful but while the tech was doing my cuticles she stopped and used them on herself and then went back to my nails! Disgusting! I will never be returning here. They made time for my friend and I to walk in before closing for a gel manicure and an acrylic set and Jennifer was sooooo precise with my acrylics! I decided to try a new nail salon and was super disappointed. I got a full set of acrylics and I won't be coming back. I've gotten my nails done for three years so I know the usual process, but the nails were never fully filed. The powered and gel coats make my nails too think and clumpy. They were extremely thick, clumpy, and I had to have a friend reshape them a couple hours later because they were uneven!
