After researching long and hard for where I want to get my nails, I finally settled with Star nails! I called in before I went to see if I would be seen when I arrive and asked for the price of gel manicure ($32). The nail technician That did my nails was Annie. She was very nice and told me to take my time on choosing my color. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she offered many colors. She even sampled some colors for me to see if I liked the color. I choose two different colors OPI (22&72). I wanted an pink with light glitter. She applied two coats of 72 and one of 22. She told me that it will be 5 coats in total with base and top coat. She also told me that it might be a little thick and asked if that was okay. When she finished she asked me if this was the color I wanted and made sure it was the exact color. I also expected that it will cost a little more because I had two colors and an extra coat but it was still $32. Was very please, and will definitely recommend this place!!

8 days later - still looks nice although my nails are already growing. MINOR polish chip and it's probably due to gardening. Right hand.

This is a review for a gel manicure and pedicure service with Jenny on a Sunday around 4:20 pm. I recently moved to the area and wanted to find a place to get my nails done. I saw Star Nails during a trip to Giant and decided to bookmark it on Yelp despite an okay rating. I called ahead to see what time they close (5 pm) and decided that I would make it just in time for a pedicure. When I got there, I had my temperature taken, had to sign a waiver for COVID, and use hand sanitizer before using the pen - all precautionary steps I really appreciate. I did not have to wait to be seated in the pedicure station. Jenny started working on my feet right after I picked a color. The pedicure is what you would expect at any nail salon, but Jenny took the time to make sure my nail beds were cut and shaped. Jenny took care of the two ingrown toenails I had on each big toe. Not going to lie, it hurt. I didn't ask for it but appreciated that she went ahead and took care of it. *If you don't want this type of service, then tell them in advance.* I don't know how long my toes are going to last since it was a basic pedi, but I like the way they look. My toes took about 35-40 minutes to finish so I decided to do a gel manicure after double-checking that it was still okay since they were going to close soon. Jenny also did my hands and I love them! After I finally picked a color she did both hands in probably 30 minutes. I was out the door by 5:30ish. I didn't think it was too expensive: standard pedicure and gel manicure was $64 (without tip). I will definitely be coming back but will probably try a gel pedicure to ensure it's long-lasting. I will update my review to share how long both of these last! These stars are for Annie, who takes great care of my nails whenever I stop by for mani/ pedi. She does a fine job of prepping my nails for polish and always listens/ double-checks with me when I have small requests. The nail bar selection wasn't very appealing to me, however. I was looking for a bright red and could not find it to my shock (it's a classic & must-have color); I initially had to settle for a gloomier one until I asked Annie about it. I was so happy & satisfied when she brought over a cheerful red bottle. But back to the nail polishes: I hope to see other brands that have little to no chemicals in the future but I understand that this is not an organic nail salon; I'm just speaking of this so it may exist. As for atmosphere-- it was busy when I went & had to wait about 30 mins. at minimum but it was worth it because I got Annie! The air definitely smelled of chemicals and hurt my head. I did manage to adjust to it but it gave me a tiny migraine. I don't often get my nails done (& have recently been going to organic nail salons) but I was in a bind for an occasion hence I came. The space felt tight (but they also have many clients so they have to accommodate for that demand which means ... more stations) & when it's busy, a bit of a challenge to maneuver around the place. Overall, I'd come back and always hope to end up with Annie-- she's just so kind & friendly!

I'm not quite sure who was doing my nails since it was pretty quiet and there weren't name tags but whoever it was did great! My mom recommended the place and as she said, it's clean, quick and neat work. I got acrylic extensions with a gel french tip and was charged about $65, someone said it was a bit pricey but it was done exactly how I wanted.

Such great service, their salon is so clean and neat. The workers are so patient and understanding. I showed Titi inspo pics with the shape and colors I wanted and she took it from there. I also got a pedicure and I love it! Worth every penny!

I went here on my birthday and had to wait 2 hours past my appointment time. (My appointment was with Marlee and her response for being late was "I'm always late") I then went back thinking if I scheduled an appointment with someone else that it would be different. Nope. My experience was even worse the next time. This time I scheduled with Linh, I waited an hour and a half past my appointment time. I even left with my nails unpainted because she didn't know how to use the chrome powder. She then said "well just keep the black" which was annoying because I didn't come there for black nail polish and not only that, the way she put the black nail polish on was so janky that I had to make her take it off. I highly recommend this place if you have plenty of time to waste. If not, do not go here. It is even more frustrating because I have been going here since I was a kid, it sucks to have to find a new nail place.

I've been coming here for about 3 months now after I got frustrated with my other nail salon/technician always rushing and doing a poor job with my nails. I have only gotten gel polish, eyebrows, and my upper lip wax here so my review is on those services only. This is the only place I've been that my gel nails actually stay on for 2 weeks without chipping or anything. I usually pay $52 for all three services. They take credit cards however you can only tip in cash. I've never left here disappointed. Once you find a good technician, stick with them, sometimes I can't always get an appointment when I want but I eventually get in and don't mind it.

$85 for a pedicure and they don't even have the callus removal tool. I was never offered anything to drink and for the price this spot unfortunately is not a spa or spa like so it is wayyy over priced. Gave it 2 stars because it was ok but won't be back. Sorrryyyy read more

Good service. Yelp reviewers should not complain that this is not a spa and no one puts a drink in your hands. And do Yelp reviewers really expect or need perfect English in a nail salon? Prices are reasonable. You can do a walk-in if you have 15 minutes of wait time to spare. They have done a good job with manicure, pedicure (for husband), and split nail repair. Nice enough vibe. Easy parking. read more

I am a longstanding patron/customer at Star Nails in Silver Spring (including having my nails done there with my daughter for her wedding in 2019-6 years ago this month. Sometimes I schedule an appointment and sometimes I walk in, which has never been an issue and I have always been willing to wait my turn and have whomever is available do my nails. I always pay my bill and tip. Today I walked in and the managing individual, who knows me said "fill-ins?" And I said "yes please". She confirmed "have your own polish?" Which I responded "Yes" with a smile and took a seat. Over one hour and several walk-in pedicure and manicure patrons later I was again passed over and the woman who has done my nails the past few times actually approached me and apologized that she could not help me since she was doing pedicure for one( who came in after me) and said someone else would take care of me. Then a second person who came in after me and specifically asked if someone had time to give them a pedicure and manicure at which time the manager said" yes it will be about 10 minutes". Throughout the hour I waited quietly and patiently but was not addressed again until I finally stood up and said to the manager "Take Care". She responded, without looking up "Sorry". Just before that she begged two separate walk In people to sit or to come back saying it would only be a 10 minute wait for them. I do not understand why I was so disrespected and overlooked and I will never patronize this establishment again. read more

There are many things nice that I can say about this salon. However, the attitudes and cultural speaking really makes me uncomfortable. The salon tech went ape s&it speaking viet in high tone when she thought I said that I only wanted my toes polished when she failed to hear that I wanted a pedi with polish. This is frustrating. I spend money here often and to speak viet in deep convo Especially when it is proven they speak English. read more

HORRIBLE customer service. They always fuss or complain if you want a shape or design. Overpriced for the quality of service. Workers (besides the manager) are beyond rude and will legit yell at you. I've been coming for years, and they've only gotten meaner and more expensive. Not worth it in the slightest. read more

I love it here! I have been coming for many years now and the staff are always friendly. I usually come to get a quick eyebrow wax and have never had to wait an extend period of time. Everyone is efficient and good at what they do! I also often get complimented for having nice eyebrows which makes me smile of course! read more

I have been coming to Star Nails for 25 years. Although their prices have increased over the years, they consistently upgrade the salon. However, two weeks ago I had my nails done and two days later I had an infection under one nail. It got so bad I had to see a doctor who put me on 10 days of antibiotics. I went to the salon to tell them to redouble their efforts about sterilizing the equipment but the manager was very nonchalant and made no further comment than "sorry". Please be aware when they claim the nail equipment is sterilized because I've seen them just putting the clippers and nail files in a plastic bag and sealing them so it's unknown if they are sterilizing anything. I'm very disappointed to report this news about a basically well run salon read more

Cheers to a third review for a third year! Pauline (Trang) is still my gel Queen and she never disappoints! With a track record so damn perfect, I really wonder how anyone goes to any other salon. I still get the same awesome service I've been getting since day 1. And it's not only the gel nails that I've gotten done from her. Star Nails is an all time favorite of mine. I've actually been a patron to this salon for the past 15 years on and off. The only reason that I stopped visiting this salon frequently is because I moved out of the area. Management has been the same for since I began coming here and all of the employees are great. This salon offers a variety of services, great customer service, consistently good work, a warm atmosphere and they keep up with all of the nail trends. I stop by for manicures, pedicures and eye brow waxing whenever I'm in the area and most of my friends visit this salon religiously. If you're looking for a new salon, this is definitely one to try! I've never visited a single nail shop more than twice EXCEPT Star Nails. I always get it by Pauline or Tran (her viet name). She is the sweetest nail technician you will ever meet. She is very gentle and caring for her clients, she will make sure you will be satisfied with her work. Pauline knows exactly how and what you will want. It may get little pricey with all the extra stuff added on such as the jewels,beads and flowers but if she's amazing at all these advance decorations I ask for I am pretty confident she will be amazing at others. It is more of the dedication she puts in for her clients. You won't regret visiting her! read more

I walked in wanted to fix one broken natural nail with dip powder. They said sure no problem. I get in the chair and the asian girl tried to put acrylic on my nails. I asked for DIP POWDER she lies and said this is and it was not. Horrible customer service and you should never call this place star nails they do basic nails nothing artistic about this place. Why lie? If you dont know how to dip piwder the right way dont lie to your customers be honest. read more

I came to this salon for years for basic mani/pedis. Their prices steadily increased over time. The last straw was charging $5 to remove a $45 gel manicure that I had just had done there 2 weeks ago. So they charge $45 for the gel powder manicure, $50 for a gel pedicure and then when you come back, scrape it off your nails and charge $10. The technician claimed she wasn't ripping off mail but she literally scraped the gel polish off of my toes. They nickel and dime and now have a manager walking around rushing them. I had to ask TiTi to remove the polish from all over my cuticles last time. Her male manager was standing over her rushing her. Finding a new salon where I get my money's worth. read more

I've been a loyal customer to Star Nails for about 15 years. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my nails or eyebrows. Spa pedicure is the best!!! It's worth it trust me! Myle is the best!!!! Clean and professional atmosphere. I love this place!!!!! Update: 2018 and I still love this place. As I read all these "negative" reviews who are you seeing??? Myle is the boss if there has ever been any issues she has always taken care of anything. Everyone is nice and friendly. My nails typically last between 3-4 weeks. read more

Love the place! I discovered it at the beginning of summer. The only person I make my appointments with is Pauline. Her hands are baby soft, they work magic, and she's such a sweet person (I hate going to salons and just sitting there; I like when techs talk to me--Pauline and I always strike up a conversation). I've only gotten gel and they always come out flawless and last minimum 2 weeks -- if my nails didn't grow fast, they could last a full 3 weeks. I'm only giving a 4 star rating because I went to get my gel removed one day and Pauline wasn't there. The lady had soft hands and she was nice, but she damaged my nails by scraping off small chunks of my nail but the gel polish. She was rushing; If she'd let the acetone sit longer on my nails, the removal would've been better. It's been about 3 weeks and my nails are still trying to repair themselves read more

Asked for SNS & were told they use a different dip powder system where they brush it on. It was basically like getting a gel fill. My nails are uneven/lopsided (veering to the right). $50 later I'm unhappy. I've been going here for over 18 years & will have to find somewhere else as the service has been inconsistent for a while now. read more

This nail salon is most like all the other nail salons in the silver spring area. Here are the facts: Getting an appointment on a Tuesday wasn't difficult. The tools the nail techs use are sterilized and look new. The business looked clean. I had a pedicure and gel nails. The pedicure wasn't anything special but it wasn't anything to complain about. The nail service was fine. The tech took her time. My nails look good. My only critique is that I wish the woman who did my pedir cute took more time on the massage aspect of both the pedicure and the manicure. As seems to be the norm, the woman's English wasn't proficient enough so that she clearly understood some of my requests. I'd go back to give it another try. read more

I have been going here for years for mani/pedi and eyebrows. It is a clean salon and all the techs are friendly. I have seen them clean the bowl after each customer. They do put plastic in the bowl for the pedi. The thing is that my nails never really look as great as I think they should. I have used other salons with a better result. They don't shape my eyebrows but clean them up. They do a decent job and they are close to me so I use them for convenience mostly. read more

I will never come back again they didn't know how to do designs even if is a butterfly and they never asked to my friend to do nails because she at first time wanted design but after they said they didn't know how to do designs she decided for plains nails and glitter and no one there wanted do for her the nails and the first person who tooks us was laughing about us and nobody took her for what she said. read more

They do a great job. I usually get SnS and it lasts 3+ weeks if I go that long. I've had good luck with several of the technicians as well. I love that they paint on their SnS instead of dipping. It's much more sanitary, it seems. read more

She then offered to meet either the next day or another day. I responded that I was available the following day, but I received no reply. Days later, she apologized and asked if I could come the next day; I agreed, but again received no response. It's now been a week since my initial service attempt. She later responded with another apology, saying she could do Monday. I agreed, and she set 2:30. I confirmed, asking her to let me know if she would indeed be there, but I never received a reply. I decided to go anyway, and she was not there. Her employees even tried to call her, but she didn't answer. This was her last message to me. My apologies I thought my message went through. But it did not. I thought it was 2:30 today Wednesday my apologies. I'm in from 1:30 to close today if you want to stop by. After nearly five attempts to get her to keep the appointment, she's clearly avoiding my calls and messages. Her behavior is unprofessional; she's dishonest by lying about fixing my nails and about her employee claiming she knew what she was doing. I've been getting pedicures for decades and the bottom of my feet are always treated (remove dry skin) either a pedicure and no salon has ever asked me if I wanted the bottom of my feet's dry skin removed because it's always included. Vanessa said, "what did I expect for $22?" I said I expected what the advertisement said, "a regular pedicure." She's a scam artist.

Upon my first visit, I was greeted by receptionist, younger lady, and told her my name. She proceeded to tell me "go on back". Well, I had to say, "This is my first time here, so not familiar". Plus I wanted to discuss my hair with stylist before shampoo. She then walked me over to meet said stylist, we chatted & then off to shampoo station. OMG, THE BEST SHAMPOO I'VE EVER HAD!! I definitely was im heaven & didn't want it to end. I was offered coffee, tea, water on 2 different occasions, which is nice customer oriented offering. After shampoo, I was escorted back to the stylists station & she began the cut. I DID show her picture of what my hair looks like after a good cut & that's what I was after, the same. The salon was PACKED! I asked if that was normal & got mixed answer, but lady next to me asked her shampoo person same thing & she was a regular. So not sure if I came on a day when everyone was working? It was VERY noisy, which made for communicating with my stylist a bit difficult. Some things I heard, somethings I asked her to repeat & whatever I didn't catch, I had to ignore. Nice lady. So for wanting to dry my hair as curled as natural, she didn't have the right tools to do so. But she made every effort & she admitted it wasn't as curled as when I walked in. I haven't tried to wash & style, so can't provide full comment on satisfaction. I will say that the products used, especially the hairspray, stinks! Like it's the old Aqua Net or old lady salon smell. Im super scent sensitive & I may have to just wash my hair to get rid of the odor. Im 2nd day after haircut & style & did have to fully curl with curling iron to work with it, but I think cut looks like it's ok. Word of warning for anyone going here for first time & something i was NOT told about on phone, which caused me a bit if embarrassment & an extra trip back, TIPS ARE CASH or Venmo ONLY! They do have an ATM machine but I do not use either, so I did return to give her my TIP. Shop was nice, HUGE and everyone seemed nice that I could tell. I may return, not sure, maybe a day when less stylists on duty. Update: after sometime & trying to do my own hair after my haircut, I can now review how the cut was.
