...Have you ever felt like someone was lying before they finished their sentence? Standing in the back area of Star Nursery on Ann, I needed to look Janet in the eyes while she denied responsibility. Her voice... calm, confident, and practiced. To anyone who hadn't done their own research, it probably sounded believable. I had already connected too many dots. What unsettled me wasn't merely the inconvenience. I could tell she recognized me as I approached. My motive was to congratulate her successful ploy. I asked the 3 ladies, Janet clearly the senior voice among them, about soil recommendations. As I listened and observed, I realized this was bigger than soil. Months earlier, I came to the nursery looking for guidance. I'd called the day before to confirm that someone could assist me in repotting a plant. Like many people, I trusted the expertise of Janet who seems to have spent years in this profession. That trust mattered. The younger staff members were immediately helpful. A tall gentleman who'd been planting strawberries and a younger woman tending the booth, didn't hesitate. Then Janet approached. She seemed concerned what they were helping with and quickly let me know, "We don't repot plants here." "Forgive me beloved. I wouldn't be here had I not called last evening to confirm first." I told her. Perhaps that was the straw, but who knows. What I do know, is Janet isn't a fan of self watering pots. I learned this as she instructed the young man to put holes in the bottom of the pot (which eliminates the intended functionality and would later create a mess in my living room) I implore you to ask her perspective on these pots if you'd like to confirm the accuracy of this testimony. The soil she recommended became the center of a problem that spread throughout my home. Fungus gnats appeared in overwhelming numbers. Soon it wasn't just a gardening issue. My wife noticed them. My children noticed them. Every room became a battleground against insects that multiplied faster than we could eliminate them. Hours were lost. Money was spent. Frustration became routine. The problem extended beyond plants and pots. It disrupted our home and our peace. Have you ever swallowed a fungus gnat? How about been interrupted by some while you have dinner and watch Netflix? How about waking up to one on your face? This was a foresaw reality Janet knew would come. When I returned seeking answers, I didn't expect professionalism. Maybe false concern at best or even accountability. Instead, I witnessed what happens when expertise stops serving customers and starts protecting itself. Experience is valuable, but without accountability, other perspectives get dismissed and customer service fades into the background. The signs aren't always dramatic. Sometimes they appear in small moments: The shrug. The dismissal. The refusal to acknowledge another person's experience. As I left the nursery, I wasn't angry. I was clear. The real loss was never the money, the soil, or even the months spent fighting the infestation. It was the realization that broken trust is far harder to restore than damaged plants. That's the lesson I carried home. Businesses grow through reputation. Relationships grow through honesty. Expertise earns respect only when it is paired with accountability. Without those things, confidence becomes arrogance, and experience becomes little more than a shield against criticism. Whether this situation resulted from poor judgment, bad information, or something else is for management to determine. My responsibility is different. In the response. A noticeable observation was how the other staff responded. The least experienced staff member noticed what was happening and became quiet. Seemingly as to stay in line of Janet's authority. The other, simply agreed with Janet by default. I believe this to be how she protects job security. My overall experience at Star Nursery was good while I was shopping, and I found what I needed. However, I did have a frustrating experience during checkout. When I went to pay, I tapped my card and the transaction went through. Right after that, the cashier said she forgot something and canceled the order. It appeared that an item may not have been rung up, but instead of explaining the situation and asking how I wanted to handle it (for example, doing a separate transaction or adding the item), the transaction was canceled. The issue is that the money had already been taken out of my account. I was then expected to pay again while waiting for the original charge to "fall off" the next day. While the cashier and manager both explained that it would correct itself, that doesn't help in the moment when the money is still out of your account. For me, customer service is about communication. If the cashier had simply paused and explained the situation clearly instead of talking with coworkers and canceling the transaction without explaining, it would have made the situation much smoother. Shopping there was fine, but the checkout experience that day could have been handled much better. read more

I've been coming here for over 20 years and ms.Virginia helps me all the time to pick a good plants, trees and shrubs. I can't live without her picking a good ones. Because young ppl work there are kind of hopeless. Return window is in 30 days, but their price is way cheaper than any other places. Great selection and awesome Virginia. I love this place!!! Star Nursery is your typical shopping place for plants and planting needs. BEWARE about the trees that you pick to purchase. I was told that their trees are grown in Florida and some of them have trouble getting established in our Las Vegas Yards. One of the trees that might be considered to be one of the most troublesome is the purple leaf plum tree. Several landscapers I've talked to said we have many problems with them here. Nobody from Star Nursery told me about the problems with purple plum trees here. One problem is that these trees taste sweet to bores and they eat the roots. I never had those pests in my yard before and when the last dead tree was removed the hole was full of GRUBBY Bores. I had at least two of Star Nursery's Purple Plum Trees die and needed to be replaced (one was a back yard tree). This is the third one from Star Nursery in my latest picture. Dr Q from Star Nursery said is still alive and is just in shock but it looks like the ones that died before. This can happen to you. read more

I really enjoy shopping at Star Nursery. I have no success leaving empty handed. Selection for plants is vast, and I have a hard time deciding which plants I want! All plants look healthy and happy. The aisles are clearly labeled and employees are knowledgeable. There is an information booth on site where you can ask any questions about the plants. So far all plants I've brought home have been happy, healthy and clear of pests and diseases. One of my favorite things about visiting this establishment is the smells of the plants. Its the best place we have in the valley. The CS is hit or miss. Only buy the pots on holidays they are marked down by 50%. Mostly the plants do well but in the summer save your receipts and return within 30 days if they fail or the cashiers give you a hard time. my last two purchases died. It really should be zero stars. I had a half ton of 1-3 inch Arizona river bed rock delivered this morning. The third time I have purchased bulk rock from them. This time the idiot driver dumped them right in front of my driveway instead of in front of the yard as I had requested. Also about a third were scattered in the street covering about a third of the street on my side. I had to move as many as I could to prevent a hazard before going to an appointment. On the way home I stopped by Star Nursery to talk to the manager. That idiot tried to defend the drivers action by saying that " sometime rocks that size roll around." He would not respond when I asked him if he expected me to believe that the whole pile rolled in front of my driveway. I went to Star Nursery on the 2nd of December 2025 I needed help with an order I was getting pavers only needed 21 okay the issue comes when a young man walk me over to what I wanted he stated that they were too heavy to fit in the cart so he called someone with a fork lift to help I waited forty-five minutes in the cold no one ever showed I did see a person with a fork lift so I assumed he was headed my way no he was moving trees around. Love star nursery can't say enough good things about them. They are price competitive definitely cheaper than most other businesses. These Pygmy date palms were around $130 each they are a medium size they do grow about 7-10 ft I was told. I got all the information I needed from a gentlemen named Marco he was very helpful as well as knowledgeable. The blond worker in the back with long hair noted to me he was there for a paycheck only haha. They have an excellent collection on small to big plants they all seem very healthy well taken care of. Tried calling to listen to their hours and even that never answered. Btw it was 2pm when I called. I think this location is CLOSED and out of business!! I'm only writing this review because this is the second time this has happened to me at this location on Ann Road. I had to wait over 40 minutes for the forklift driver to give me my rock while he helped somebody else unload three pallets of bricks, one piece at a time. The second time at this location this happened to me, I asked the forklift driver how much longer it will be and he said he was going to go get it. I later saw him helping somebody else with pots of dirt. The person he was helping had shown up long after I did while I had been sitting here waiting in the parking lot. I will not be back it this location again. Additionally, my experience with the managers was less than desirable. Upon going back inside to obtain a refund the two managers appeared to apathetic to my situation as I received no apology for what had just happened. read more

Went in excited as my spouse and I are first time home buyers looking to furnish our backyard. When we arrived we ended up finding a variety of species we liked. Ultimately when it came time to check out, 2 of our plants rung up for an incorrect price ($45 per plant VS. $29.98 posted on the sign). As the line was almost to the back I was hesitant to correct this, but ultimately I felt it wasn't fair. The employee was annoyed that I said something and grabbed a manager that took over 15 minutes in the back, looking for the plant that we had. He came back to say he couldn't even find the 'correct sign' and the closest he could do was $39.98. As we have already been waiting and holding up the line, we decided to just get the plants. On top of this, my husband is military and the employee then remarked she would "serve 4 years too for .40 off her bill" sarcastically and passively. However when you're spending literally thousands of dollars on trees you'd, at the very least, expect customer service to be on top of their game. This location is HORRIBLE in that department. The young ladies both at the checkout counter as well as lower level management need a refresher course in their profession. Because of their negative behavior and attitude I will take my business elsewhere in the future. I also canceled an additional purchase of almost $2000 (I spent $4500 the day before) solely based on customer service.
