The curry I got here was DELICIOUS! I ordered the Mahi Mahi Fish Masala. The fish quality was great and didn't taste fishy, but more like chicken. The servers were very attentive, unlike most Indian restaurants. They also bring out a complimentary appetizer to each table. The atmosphere was good. While I care about service and atmoshphere, it is all about the food, which was incredible. One small complaint, they tacked on an "inflation fee" on my check. I ordered a pick up order from Uber Eats and when I went to the restaurant, it was not open. I was charged for them accepting my order, even though they were not open for me to get the food. I wish like heck I could remember what I got. It was definitely a curry. But, wow. Just WOW. Might be the best Indian food I've ever had. I've had the hardest time finding decent food in Denver - and it turns out I needed to get out of Denver. I've now had several amazing meals in Aurora (do not let anyone tell you anything bad about Aurora). Aurora is way more diverse than Denver, and that is exactly how I like it. But I digress. Yes, the food was so good I almost cried. My server (all the servers were chatting about their various Masters Degrees btw) came over to ask how my meal was and I am pretty sure I had tears in my eyes. I got the medium spice, but could easily go up a notch. It had a flavor of honey to it, but he described the dish thoroughly with all the different spices that went into it, but none of them were honey. He thought perhaps it was the carmelized onions. Stopped in for the lunch buffet. There were lots of options and they seemed to be re-filling hot stations in small batches. Most of what I tried seemed to be at temperature although there were a couple items that were not. Love that the buffet is served with fresh prepared naan delivered to the table. Also had a couple cups of delicious chai tea which was wonderful on such a cold day. I also enjoyed that it was not sweetened so I could add if I wanted to. The tandoori chicken, chicken curry and saag were my favorites from this lunch but I'm always excited to be able to try different items that I wouldn't immediately order otherwise. Star of India recently changed hands after 20+ years of ownership. We've been going to SoI for that long and wondered what our experience would be like... Well, we were not disapppinted! With an elegant and casual atmosphere, our waiter Sameer was timely, friendly and accommadating. We ordered Indian craft beers. I wanted to try their mangorita... but was informed their mixer wasnt there and only 2 coctails were available. Strange for Friday night. The waiter suggested Mango-Rum Lassi... which was actually quite good! Creamy sweet, smooth and mango-tangy. Apps were the usual veggie pakoras... hot and crispy sprinkled with chat masala. The fried paneer was delicious. Our party did not care much for the meat samosas... but enjoyed everything else. Dinner entrees were equally delicious. Tandori checken - tasty and juicy. Amazing food! We've had ate quite a few indian places and this one is in the very top ones weve tried. I am vegetarian and really loved they had dedicated vegetarian sections in their menu which made it easy to find things for me. We ordered the vegetarian platter appetizer and the Chana Saag. The fried pakora was so good my son even ate it and loved it and he hates anything vegetables. If you like indian food you'll love this place. read more

Recently went to Star of India for dinner based on its high ratings in Aurora, CO. It was fairly quiet with more than 50% of the tables empty. Volume was low other than a couple seated near us with very loud children who were actively racing around tables. The service was very friendly but orders were mixed up and drinks forgotten. We had to look for our servers if we needed anything and then to get our bill and pay. As for food, it was very mixed. The butter chicken and the lemon chicken were both quite good. The lamb curry was average with far more sauce than lamb. The lamb itself was a bit tough. The naan was average at best and the lentil soup, a "house specialty " was thin and flavorless. I'm not giving it a 5 star only because the restaurant hours are restrictive and the appetizer was very salty--but besides that, everything was great. Nice staff. Speedy service. Decent pricing. The lunch buffet is a reasonable bargain at $20 per person. The food is typical for buffets with everything being designed to appeal to everyone. Not too spicy and not too outlandish. That said, it was tasty! I look forward to going to order dinner Od the menu sometime soon and see what they can do to punch the flavor of an individual dish. With ethnic foods that could be eaten by anglos with limited food knowledge, an explanation of what was on the buffet might enhance the experience. We were visiting family in the area and the decision was unanimous: Indian food! Star of India ls near their new home. It may be in a run-down strip mall, but inside it is understated elegance and soft music :-) The service was prompt and friendly. We ordered several different entrees as wells as samosas, pakora, and naan. Everything was freshly made and wonderfully seasoned!! The spice level wasn't as hot as we prefer, but the flavors were so rich we didnt miss the heat in this case. Even the basmati rice was fresh snd steaming hot! (We've all been to places where the rice comes to the table cool & lumpy.) A really lovely dinner experience, and our local family will be back often! read more

I have been a devoted fan of Star of India for more than 15 years. I live 25 min away in Denver(not sure why Yelp has address in Superior) but I made the trip because it was the only Indian restaurant in Metro Denver that had two fryers- one for vegetables and one for non-vegetables. I am a strict vegetarian so Star of India was the only place I could enjoy deep fried foods such as vegetable samosas. The food and service was always excellent. But I called the restaurant today and confirmed that the new management/chef has changed to a single fryer for all foods. I hope that the new management gets similar feedback to mine and decides to change back to what made Star of India a special place. read more

I used to come here a few times per month with my family. It had been some of the best Indian food I've ever eaten. We went back a couple weeks ago and the food tasted...off. Not bad per se, but just not the depth of flavor we were used to. The rice, which was usually silky and perfectly aromatic tasted dry. The naan wasn't fluffy like usual, the curry a little flat. It was a Tuesday night so we figured it was just an off time- maybe we were having the last of the food from the day since it was right before closing. We later learned that the restaurant is under new management. But I still wanted to give it a chance. we love Star of India, it's one of our staples since we moved to Aurora. Tried it again today and, unfortunately, there was no denying that the quality has changed significantly. Again, the food isn't bad. It still scratches the itch for Indian food. But it's more generic, whereas before the food was "wow". People who have been there before will be able to tell- but if it's your first time going it will certainly be decent. Personally, their dishes like Rogan Josh are amazing and unlike any preparation, I've had before. Their naans are also fluffy, flaky, and buttery all at once. Their mango lassis are a delight, and their buffets (when available) are a great way to sample their selection and preparation. * Awesome waitstaff. Their wait staff is fantastic. The proprietors are often onsite and regularly check on patrons. I feel good dining at this establishment. * Tasteful and comfortable venue and decor. The facilities are clean, the venue is tastefully decorated. CONS: * I don't have any personal cons. I've tried a few different regional cuisines of India while living in Texas, Colorado, and the UK. This restaurant is the epitome of the type of place you take someone to impress them with extremely delicious/ authentic food and show them something new. The food was completely 10/10, my waiter was a complete gentleman (a young man, honestly forgot his name) and the owner was walking around speaking to customers while even helping bus tables with his employees!!!! Came here for my normal Indian food cravings. Right away, the waiter told me about their dinner buffet and I was on that! However, I ran out of my lactaid that usually lines the inside of all of my purses. Lactose intolerance is a biatch for anyone who has it. However, this place did something very kind and surprising for me tonight. I asked the waiter which dishes have milk or cream in them. Just so I can avoid them all together. Well, the chicken tikka is one of the better dishes I enjoy but it has a yogurt or milk base to it. I would of been completely okay avoiding it but one of the chefs there told me they can make it for me without the milk. These people are a star. Tbh, just having that little bit of change in my meal made the experience just that much better. Food intolerances are a hard thing to deal with and when a chef makes alternatives for their customers it shows how much they truly care. The food was still delicious still without the dairy.
