They take insurance which is great but my physical therapist injured me and encouraged me to keep doing the treatment even though it was making me worse. When I spoke with my massage therapist and osteopath about the exercises she had me do, they said they didn't make sense given my issues. I asked her to call my physical therapist where I used to live to find out what she did. That never happened over the course of a month. She did speak to my pelvic floor Physcial therapist but then said she wanted to have me do exercises I know the pelvic floor pt doesn't allow me to do yet. It is like she came up with a sense very quickly of my problem and a treatment plan without looking much at my records or consulting with the rest of my team. My case is very complex, and she didn't take that into consideration. I became worse over time except when seeing someone else who said my issue was something else and gave different treatment. Pt was resistant though and wouldn't alter course. Also my sunglasses were stollen by the tech. I had them when I came in, and then after I did stim and heat, they were gone. The tech asked if they were "expensive." Seriously!?!? If your issue is simple and you need a place that takes insurance, they can probably help you. But they certainly didn't me. read more

I had a labrum tear in my shoulder repaired, and to describe the condition as 'uncomfortable' after four weeks would be a tremendous understatement. I picked Physiotherapy Associates (I think they their name is also BAK) because of proximity, but perhaps I was lucky because I can't recommend the care I received higher. They have a clean, open office with a lot of room. They've recently done some remodeling and it added to the space. The equipment was in good shape, and they have a changing room if you need it. Ryan Napeek was my therapist, and Frank and Zack helped with the exercises. Ryan was always on time, was thorough in preparing for my sessions, and was careful to follow the surgeon's instructions. Everyone will tell you PT stands for 'pain and torture', and it does hurt a bit, but honestly not as much as everyone said it would. Ryan made sure to monitor my progress and not do anything that would potentially damage the repair. He was incremental and careful during range of motion exercises, and not to mention a lot of fun to talk to (which helps when you need something to take your mind off of your current activity). Frank and Zack make sure you do your exercises, and they are nice about it. The electric stimulation machine is pretty cool, I used it for the first couple of visits but after a while you don't need it. I just had my four month follow up, and the surgeon said, 'I can tell you now, but after your surgery I didn't expect you to recover as well as you did; the tear in your labrum was quite serious.' Kind of a shock to hear that, but as my range of motion is 90% with signs of getting better, I can only assume it was largely because of the quality of the surgeon, but also because of the quality of the physical therapy. read more

I was referred to Physiotherapy Associates by my sports medicine doctor in order to treat stubborn tendonitis in my elbow that just wasn't healing. Since starting treatment several weeks ago, I've definitely seen an improvement, and I look forward to each visit. Ryan Kahn and the rest of the team there are terrific at their jobs and fun to talk to. They really seem to care about their patients and really try hard to get them back in good shape. Wish I could give a lower score. This review is for management, not my therapist. If you have another option for PT, please chose anywhere but this place. They are eager to get you in and get you booked because well, revenue. I was given misinformation during the "intake process" by the front desk where basically they said services would cost one amount and it ended up costing a much larger amount. I've been disputing this billing with management for two months now and I have nothing good to say about the half dozen or so Select Medical and Physio reps I've interacted with since. read more

Julia has been extremely helpful in working with me and has knowledgeable approaches for each step of my healing process. Came here for some help recovering from a lower back injury. I had tempered expectationts for what physical therapy would actually be able to do for me, but I'm shocked at just how effective it was. Ryan Khan was my therapist, and was awesome. He has a positive outlook, sets realistic and achievable goals, and provides all the tools (exercises, stretches in my case) to get you back to healthy. Before I showed up, I'd been struggling with pain for about 4 months and was feeling extremely hopeless and depressed. I was recommended to come here after visiting the sports medicine doc who said I had some rotator cuff and classic tennis elbow issues. After getting 12 visits approved, I made my initial appointment. The physical therapists who I worked with were friendly, professional, and provided me with excellent care. Special shot out to Ryan Napeek whom I met with regularly! Almost 5-6 weeks later, I'm really back to my normal self. All my appointments started on time; I had zero scheduling issues, and the overall environment was clean and comfortable. I also really appreciated the 1:1 attention to complete the exercises to build strength in my shoulder. The guys who assisted me with those were also professional, friendly, and always made sure I stayed in the correct form. If I have any issues in the future I will definitely be back here and recommend them to anyone in need of some PT. read more

I tried this place because the place I used to go no longer takes my insurance. Before I came to BAK I tried another place and they were very nice but not very good...They never changed my program and I didn't get better. So I tried BAK and they were very knowledgeable, and constantly reevaluated and updated my program. With BAK I got better and they were fun as well. read more

My right knee was replaced in late June. My insurance carrier Aetna's web side showed many physical therapy locations. I selected Physiotherapy Associates in Redwood City based on yelp reviews and location. My trainer, Ryan Khan, evaluated my conditions, checked flexibility and motion of my knee joints. After evaluation, Ryan complimented me and indicated that I was in a great shape and did not need any therapies. I really liked Ryan who is terrific at his job, very pleasure to talk to, cares for his patients and most importantly for his honesty. I worked with him on only two occasions and feel lucky to have him as my trainer. I highly recommend him. I am going to have my second knee replaced in next few months. If you guess right, my trainer will be no one but Ryan Khan for the therapies. read more

I would give the staff here high marks, but I do have a major issue with the corporate owner located back in Pennsylvania. I have a doctor in PAMF upstairs who wrote me a referral to get my back worked at this office. The receptionist verified that my CIGNA coverage would pay for all charges with the exception of the co-pay. Awesome!! So, I came in for 6 sessions(ranging from $300-$500 for each 45 minute session) and my back was on the mend. That is when the trouble started. I received a $700 bill from Physiotherapy Associates(PA), so I called the local office. The receptionist verified that Cigna fully covered the treatment and there must be an error. So, I called Cigna and lo and behold, I was out of network. Cigna was nice enough to go back and listen to the taped phone conversation with PA and verified PA was at fault. Then back to PA who said they were under no legal requirement to tell me if I was in network. This finished when they threaten to send me to collections and I end up putting a $500 charge on my credit card after my 25% discount. Absolutely no integrity with this company. Lesson here is if you want to work with a trustworthy company, do not patronize this company!!! Also, check directly with your insurance company for coverage and don't trust these guys!! read more

I had Turf Toe which was extremely painful but through the guided assistance from Ryan Napeek and his crew, it could not have gone more smoothly. Ryan is knowledgeable, courteous, and professional. These guys are fantastic! I've had a few nagging aches and pains over the years that have become irksome as I approach 50. I worked with my doctors to isolate what my real issues were and headed over to BAK to see what we could do. Everyone at BAK is positive, supportive, SMART, and ready to make a solution happen. I've worked through the pain in my foot and am almost through my elbow issue. Feeling better than I have in months. If you haven't tried physical therapy for those "aging pains" we all go through, you're missing a real opportunity to regain what you may think you've lost. Give it a shot! I was in a pretty bad car accident on the Peninsula. I looked at several facilities, and visited three before selecting BAK. I selected them for a few reasons. First, they have a diverse staff qualified in several areas of PT. The patient to Physical Therapist ratio is 1:1 every time. When a complication formed, a possible blood clot I had no idea of but they spotted, they reached out to my PCP, and I was getting an ultrasound at the hospital within an hour. Although the results were negative, if they were positive and said nothing, I'm not sure I would be here typing this. Second, they have a very flexible scheduling department and verified my benefits before I started PT. I walked in the door, filled out some paperwork, I was immediately with a therapist. I had several injuries to my leg, back, and shoulder which made my PT more complex. The team here came up with a daily plan to address each area that needed PT that reduced aggravation in other injured areas. The facility is easy to get to and has plenty of parking. I have been to the facility at 4 in the afternoon and 9 in the AM. Always easy parking. I am an overweight guy, but I was treated like any other patent. No judgement, just great advice and good homework. The staff has an equal number, I think, male and female staff. They all seem to love what they do, and when one therapist needs help, the low patent to therapist ratio allows another therapist to jump in and help. I needed this a few times. They seem to have each others back here. The patient seems to come first, the environment is comfortable, and they always tell you what they are doing before they do it. No surprises. The results speak for themselves. I'm walking better, sleeping better, range of motion has improved, and things I simply couldn't do, I'm able to start doing again. Thanks for fixing me. read more

I previously went to another p.t. six years ago which was located on Shoreway, in San Carlos. I had not been to p.t before and wasn't sure what to expect. The therapist worked on no fewer than 3 people at one time. Unfortunately my issue wasn't resolved and I was told after 8 visits, "I just can't help you. When your back hurts just get off your bike and stretch." After hip issues this summer, I went to BAK which was recommended highly form my Dr. One to one attention is given, plus exercises. They really care about each patient. Turns out my hip issues stem from the back issue which was never addressed six years ago. These people rock!! read more

The therapist's skill is great, however, the customer service is horrible and not very accommodating. Don't be shocked when they tell you no advance reservations can be made, you have to call in on the day of to schedule a time. For long term treatments, it would be a pain and very hard to work into a schedule/routine, especially when you have kids. Although, the therapist's skill is not too bad, i had a flare up from one of the sessions after weeks of healing :( and now still suffering badly, I can't even be seen today, when i ran into an incident on 92 (that is totally out of my control). When I asked to reschedule, "you can go elsewhere if you want to" they responded. Patient care? or money milker? it is very clear.. patient care focus is not there! I am talking my business elsewhere to somewhere that really accommodates patients and focuses on patient care, rather on the number of patients and the money associated with that numbering game. I was refereed by a doctor to this place, surely, I would advise the doctor not to sent more patients down this lane - because patient care and accommodations are what patients most need! read more

Advice for future patients: get all potential charges documented in writing prior to any therapy being done. I went to them based on the recommendation of my massage therapist. During my first 2 calls with them, I proactively asked about my insurance coverage. I was told not to worry repeatedly - that they took my provider and told me a specific cost per visit. After a few weeks of therapy, I was told that they didn't take my provider, but would still only charge me that same amount. Lo and behold, they came back again a few days later, and said they do take my provider after all. The office manager said I wouldn't be responsible for any more fees. Flash forward: they did accept my provider and they almost doubled the fee per visit. I complained to a centralized billing center back east who had no context. Even after I paid off my bill, they're coming back with other mysterious charges months later. I've told my massage therapist of my experience and she said she's heard similar stories from 2 other people who she referred. read more
