Nice little place in San Mateo - we've been here a couple of times and the service has been quick and friendly with not too much of a wait. They have a nice waiting area with a restroom (though it was closed on our most recent visit). And the price is pretty good - with the "coupon" on the website, it's only $31.75 + $8.25 for the certificate, so only $40! And here's where I have to drop one star. It's only $40, except when it's not! Because I was actually charged $50 after showing them the coupon. Why? They said the DMV directed me to a "STAR" station specifically, and so they then add $10 on. Slightly odd, but whatever - I can live with that. My complaint though is that nowhere on the website or on the "coupon" does it mention this that I can see. What other secret extra charges are there? Maybe they tack on $10 if it's raining, or your car is blue, or the Warriors won yesterday - who knows? If they simply update the website and the coupon to be more clear about this policy, then I'm perfectly happy with this place. --- Update --- Star Smog Central responded (and thanks for the information provided) and the coupon here on Yelp does indeed mention there is an extra charge for Star testing. However, the website starsmogcentral.com still does not have this information, and that is the version of the coupon I saw. Please update the website as well and everything is awesome.... read more
