Amazing service! I received a DMV notice for smog check and found this shop on a Google search. I texted them for availability and they got back to me right away for an opening at 1pm. I was not expecting a same day appointment. If you go to their website, you'll find a discount coupon for the smog service. The value was reasonable with the coupon--$55. I got there and was in and out in about 25 minutes. Service was quick and the tech, was really friendly. Premises were clean--there is a bench you can sit and wait while your car is serviced. Golden Gate Smog came through clutch. My registration tags were delayed because of smog, so I needed a quick smog check in the area and stumbled across this spot. So thankful I did! They opened earlier than all the nearby places at 8:30. I pulled up right at 8:30 without an appointment hoping for the best, and to my surprise they were able to squeeze me in by 8:45. They even showed me the appointment list for the day, and they were basically fully booked! The whole process was super quick and easy. They've got a nice waiting room and a clean bathroom as well. Outstanding service! I'll never go to any other smog check shop after having my car checked here. Norm is super honest and knows cars really well. My car's computer had been reset by the Honda dealership (unknown to me) when I took it in for maintenance a month ago and Norm knew exactly what to do to ensure all systems would come back on to so I could complete my smog test. Getting a smog check is one of those dreadful errands, right up there with going to the doctor and paying taxes (ew)...but if I have to do it, I'm going to Golden State Smog Center! Norman's service is excellent. He's very professional and efficient, and the prices are reasonable. Making an appointment is super easy -- you can text him. The waiting room is also the nicest I've seen at a car-related business. Star Smog Central on Palm Avenue is closer to me, and I don't have anything bad to say about them, but imo Golden State offers easier scheduling and a more pleasant atmosphere. Golden Gate Smog Center is a solid 5-star performer. Two years ago, I was in a rush and had to get a smog check before going out of town. I stopped by Golden Gate Smog Center and met Norman... what a guy. He is super professional and personable. He said I would have to wait 20-30 minutes... I didn't have an appointment. I parked on the curb and started working a crossword puzzle. Before I could finish, Norman directed me to pull my wife's 2007 Edge into Golden Gate's driveway. This car is older and I sorta cringe when I get it smog checked. I'm just waiting to hear the car will need some work before it passes the smog check. Fortunately, it passed. Fast forward to this year... oops!... I needed a "gold" smog check from a shop certified to check older cars. I drove over to Golden Gate and asked Norman if he could help me. Absolutely. Golden Gate is authorized to check older cars. Same routine... about a 20-30-minute wait before my car was getting checked. Same Norman... he is a dynamo. You will like doing business with him. He finished the check lickety-split. When I asked if my wife's car passed, Norman answered with a big smile and "Yes." Although the timing worked out for me twice, I recommend anyone needing a smog check... make an appointment at Golden Gate Smog Center. I called at 12:20 today to ask if they can squeeze me in for a smog for my hybrid. The gentleman who answered was very kind. He asked what time I wanted to come in, and I let him know that I had just drove by the shop and saw they were busy, but I was free anytime that was convenient for them. He told me to just come in now since i was close by. I literally pulled up at 12:27 and was already leaving at 12:40!! I thought I was going to be there for at least an hour lol. My car passed and they sent it over to the dmv immediately. The man and woman there were extremely nice. I heard them both talking with the other customers and they are very respectful. If any of my other vehicles need a smog, I'll definitely go back there. It was $49.75 + $8.25. I'm so glad that I called! It was super fast and easy. I've been going to Golden State Smog Center for years. They are always very fast and professional. It's a family-owned business, and everyone is super friendly. They also go around your car, check tire pressures, and fill them. Just for your safety, not to try to sell you anything. Bonus if you're into classic muscle cars, the owner always has 1-2 long-term restoration projects in the back of the shop. I was referred to Golden State from Exhaust Works. I thought they closed at 530pm so I got there at 515. Norman said they were closed (5pm) and still had two cars to work on....i pleaded a bit as I have limited time and Norman was kind enough to take care of my smog even with his two small kids waiting on him. Got me in and out in 15 and I was able to get my son before preschool closed at 6pm. Norman did me a solid and greatly appreciate his kindness and professionalism. I can't recommend Norman at Golden State Smog enough! When my 2012 Honda Civic didn't pass smog for the first time ever, Norman took the extra time to clearly explain the issue and how it was negatively affecting my gas mileage. He showed me how the damaged part could be replaced and told me that it can be purchased very affordably online. Once the part was replaced, I was sure to bring my car back to Golden State Smog where it passed with flying colors. I will definitely come back here next year. read more

Does anyone else dread doing car-related maintenance or is it just me? Your car needs it and you know it needs it but it can be a long process at the auto shop so you put it off for weeks before someone snaps you back to reality and tell you it's gotta be done. Fine. Let's do it. But where? My car needs not just a smog check, but a STAR certified smog check. What? Luckily, my boyfriend already had a place in mind and it was Golden State Smog Center. He had gone there months ago and had a great experience so he was ready to recommend them to me. I swung by on a Saturday afternoon and when we got there, Norman mentioned how they had 4 cars coming in for a smog check in about 5 mins. I waited to be told to come back, but to my surprise, Norman said they could get started on my car asap! Thank goodness! The smog check went by quick and it was a reasonable $50. 6/2023-Made a last minute appointment for 8a and even though I was a little late he was very accommodating and the entire visit only took 15 min. Still the same price as 5 years ago. Highly recommended. 5/2018-Call ahead to make a reservation but they're very accommodating. They usually give you the coupon rate ($39.75 +8.25 certificate) for those that call in. Guys are super nice and have a comfy waiting room with TV and WiFi, but I was in and out in less than 15 minutes! read more
