My significant other's AC was blowing hot air yesterday, so I figured it required an AC recharge. I called multiple shops and Star Smog and Lube was the only location that provided me with a reasonable price and also mentioned they would check for any leaks. I decided to call and bring it in this morning. I was lucky to be out in under an hour! During the time I was waiting the car technician made sure to show me the fluid levels and also that there was a small leak due to a worn ac gasket. He kindly replaced that at no charge and made sure I was aware of where he was with the service. He was apologetic that they were busy, but I felt the time I waited was reasonable! I would rather wait for quality work than to be given my car and for there to be issues. I will definitely be back here for other services as the staff are knowledgeable, kind and prices are reasonable. read more

Why bother offering appointments online if you can't honor them? Made a 12:30p appointment the night before. Show up at 12:15 and was told it was "45 minutes or an hour" before they can get my smog done. My car didn't pull into the bay until 2:30. Slow service. Rude. Take your vehicles elsewhere. read more

Can't believe I posted my review on the wrong Star smog. This is where it belongs!! I had the best experience at Star Smog Super friendly and I got an appointment next day. She reminded me that I had a coupon. :) :) I let her know that I was picking up tags the following day at AAA and she informed me that I would need to do it that afternoon (this was at 4:45) or the smog would be in the system and I would have to wait for DMV to send my tags. Good info to have!!! She then gave me directions to the nearest AAA office where I made it in time to get my tags!! Great customer experience and the best price I've ever paid for a smog check. My second car needed smogging so I returned to Star Smog & Lube, and the service was even better than the first time I brought my car in.

This business is great. We came here the day before Christmas as a walk-in around 10 am and they welcomed us with open arms. The lady at the front desk was very cheerful, and pleasant to work with. The service itself took less than an hour, which in my book is incredible considering the time that we came. There was probably only 2-3 people in front of us. In terms of pricing, my fiance was able to get her Corolla services for around 30 bucks. I'm not sure if this is always their pricing, but we mentioned the Yelp coupon for checking in. The location is great too, with Kinders right around the corner. We had a quick lunch (wait for the Kinders review as well) and BOOM, our cars' ready. If we didn't eat, the waiting room has a handful of chairs, with magazines and a TV for your entertainment. I'll take my cars here for a smog for now on. Great job Smog Repair and Lube! read more

Came here today without an appointment as I had the day off from work unexpectedly. Used a Living Social coupon for a full synthetic oil change and was helped right away. The whole experience took less than an hour. You have to pay extra for disposal and taxes. The place isn't much to speak about, but staff is friendly and service was quick. read more

This was a Walnut Creek drive-by... So, I was headed down to the other popular Smog Center place over on Mt. Diablo Blvd that got high yelper review marks. Only some yelpers were a lil' sketchy about the management and prices. I didn't want to deal with that, but I was headed there anyways. I'm SO SO SO glad I actually found this place instead. Check out my pics if you're trying to find this place. It caught my eye to give it a try! I didn't have an appointment. There were three or four people ahead of me. I "checked-in" on Yelp to get the job done for $33. The waiting area was small, but fancy with all the metal signs and vintage oil cans. And yes, they also do oil changes. I was in and out in of there in exactly, 26 mins. The lady at the counter explained everything to me. No complaints with service. Done! Short and simple... Smog it here! read more

Great service at Star Smog and Lube! I made an appointment last night on the website. It just requests a time you'd like to come in, your email and name. On the day of your appointment, a few things, don't forget your form from the DMV that says you need a smog check and before you step out of the car, check your mileage. If you haven't been here before, then you'll need to just fill out a quick form but if you're a returning customer, it's a smooth process. I was literally in and out of here in 10 min. I can't even believe it lol. Staff is great. They're nice and friendly. I even got to watch some football in the waiting area. Also, they all wear masks and have hand sanitizers! Scammed. Did not honor their quote. It went from $59 all of the sudden to $101. I challenged it and got it down to $80 but he told me I had to have an extra Star certified test for $40. He then went down to $20 for this made up test. There is no such thing. You just have to go to a smog station that is Star certified according to requirements for the state. read more

****Beware**** I went in to Star Smog and Lube on a Friday to get my oil changed. On Saturday, my oil light came on and my car stalled on a busy street. All of the oil had drained out of the car!! A mechanic on the weekday crew, Paul, had installed the wrong size of oil filter! A very bad mistake that could have ruined my engine!! I had to have my car towed back to Star Smog where Francis on the weekend crew fixed the problem. When I talked to Paul a few days later, he was dumbfounded and didn't even apologize until I said, "You didn't even say you were sorry". I talked to the manager, Amanda, a week after the incident to let her know I would be writing a review on Yelp!, and she said she hadn't heard anything about it. But she did apologize many times and gave me a refund. So that slightly made up for the stress of sitting in my car while passing cars kept honking at me, for waiting 1-1/2 hours for the tow truck to come, then waiting another 1-1/2 hours for the problem to be fixed, and missing out on the nature walk I had planned with my daughter on her last day home from college. I cannot trust this business and I will NOT be returning. read more

I made an appointment on Friday for the next Monday. For an oil change. The Woman I spoke with said she didn't need to take my phone number down. I've been there before. I come in at my appointed time on Monday and they said there's no mechanic there. Some thing about the system is broken. The girl at the desk got defensive. Well your employees don't know how to schedule appointments or take the information down so They can call a client and cancel if need be.... But no - she had to defend herself and the business. I was a little upset because it said the cost was $89 for compact car and I had a $10 off coupon. So I thought my charge would be $79.
