Something's not right with this place. I brought my car in after driving around for about 30 minutes to be sure it was warmed up. It did not pass, which was surprising, but hey, these things happen. When I started it up after the test, the check engine light was on. It was not on when I brought it in. I asked them if the test finding whatever the problem was had caused it go on, since it was definitely not on when I brought it in. The owner claimed that it was indeed on when he had driven it the six feet from where I had parked it at the entrance to the testing bay. This just isn't believable. The check engine light has never been on before, and why would he test a car he supposedly knew from the beginning was going to fail? (Check engine light on is an automatic fail.) I had repairs done and brought it back a week later for the free re-test and it passed. When I saw the owner again on my way out I told him I was going to write an honest review of my strange experience. He then simultaneously offered me a refund and became hostile. Up till then, this was going to be a two star review, as at least they had been very polite and service-oriented. He said several times that if something on the car breaks when it is under their care that they are not responsible for it. Just very odd. I've posted such a detailed review just in case this is part of a pattern that the public should be aware of. read more

I was super disappointed this morning. First the kid who works there was open to negotiate on price so it came down from $68 to $52 then after a 15min wait for a computer update the tech was unable to drive a stick shift so I couldn't get my smog done. Poway SMOG check 2 blocks down had no issues. Threw my car straight into the garage for a smog at only $39.00! Would recommend Poway SMOG over this place. read more

Fast, friendly, and relatively inexpensive; what more could you ask for? There was a big rush right when I got there, but even still, each customer averaged about 10 minutes (though to be conservative, the guy estimates ~15 minutes per car). I was second in line, and was out of there in 20 minutes. The guy was very friendly, and hooked me up with a discount. Regular price is about $49. He asked where I heard about them, and when I told him 'yelp', he priced it at $40 (plus $8 certificate fee). Another customer said that she heard from them from google, and her price was $37.50. So, just say that google sent you! It's in a good location. DMV is very close, if you want to finish your car registration in-person. There's also Sprouts for grocery shopping, and Rubios for food, etc. The waiting room is a little small, but there's a TV and fan, and you're not likely to spend too long there. We all hate having to smog our cars every few years, but this place makes it a lot less painful. read more

Stopped in today for a smog check, just right after they opened. I was the second person in line and was greeted fast and politely. From start to finish I was out the door in less than 30 minutes, and that's with waiting for the customer in front of me. I checked in using yelp, which gives you $12 off a regular smog check and certificate. The total came to $46 even with the certificate in hand. The shop is connected to a Mobil gas station, and if you blink you could miss it. They only have 1 car bay, so if there is a line, it could take a little while. That being said, they were fast, courteous, and you'll leave happy knowing you got a great deal!. read more

What a painless and easy experience taking care of something for my car! Typically I dread taking my car in for anything, but Roger and Alan made this experience super easy! I called to see if they took walk-in appointments, Roger answered and said they most certainly do. I work up the street and was taking a late lunch (4:30pm) so I drove to their shop and got right in. As a matter of fact, they had finished the smog check by the time I had a shrimp taco at Rubio's next door and came back (seriously - about 15 minutes max!) I highly recommend this place for ease of getting in, friendly service, fair pricing and expeditious handling of the task at hand! I had "THE Flash Experience" In at 10:00 AM out by 10:07 AM! That is what I call THE Flash experience (superhero pun intended) as in the fastest EVER smog check I had for my car. Very Professional: I called the day before to make an appointment at 10:00 AM on Thursday morning and was quoted a very good price. When I arrived Josh greeted me at my car before I even stepped out the door of my car. As when went in to do the paperwork another person drove my car into the car garage. My first smog check on my relatively young car was fast, easy, and inexpensive! One of the guys came and met me at my car, and told me right away that I should check in on yelp to save myself $12. Thanks for the tip! It only took about 15 minutes, and they sent my certificate/receipt/whatever directly to the DMV. Plus they had the travel channel on in the lobby so I could relax and watch some Hotel Impossible while I was waiting. I was highly impressed with how personable and prompt these guys were! I called first thing on a Friday thinking I'd be told I could book an appointment within a week or so. Wrong! The friendly gentleman told me to bring my car in immediately, and they would have it ready within 20 minutes. I was a bit skeptical, but I thought I'd give them a shot. When I arrived, one of the employees walked over, greeted me with a smile, and took my keys to perform the smog check. It seemed he anticipated my arrival based on my earlier phone call. I went in the building to pay, and it seemed as soon as I sat down with my tablet, the smog check was done. The desk clerk was friendly and made casual small talk, instead of ushering me out the door. I would say the process took no longer than 10-15 minutes, and they submitted my certificates to the DMV electronically. I will definitely return if I need a smog check in the future. They are super fast and nice to the customers and what I valued more is that he honored the coupon I brought from Shell (they smog check machine was broken or that is what they say as soon as I showed them my coupon). I also asked the same guy if he could take a look at the noise that my car is making these days and even though they don't specialize on that, he still took the time to check it out. This station is a little spendier than others available nearby...but you do the Yelp Check-In and it brings them right back down to average. Best perk, it's just right down from the Poway MVD and they are FAST. So if you gotta get a smog to get out of there, this can be done, drive time included, in about 20MIN. Brilliant. Just brilliant. My old favorite smog test station has closed since my last test, and I needed a current smog test badly (procrastinated quite a bit this go-round), and these guys were conveniently open on Sunday (yay), and no waiting at all. I was in and out in about 10 minutes with a passing grade, and they even have a Yelp deal for12 bucks off the normal test price, as long as you check in during your visit.
