I ordered 5 sushi rolls and a teriyaki plate to go. When I asked to not have tofu in the miso soups, one of my favorites, I was told, "we don't make miso to go." My mom and I have gone here twice already and we like the variety and creativity of their sushi rolls. We've had the Cincinnati, Kiwi, Spider 2.0, Kamikaze, Albino, and Arizona rolls and their cucumber salad. Both times the cucumber has been bitter in the salad and sushi which is our only main criticism. Any other criticism we have is a personal preference thing to be honest, like how we both thought the rolls had a little too much rice sometimes and that it's a little too much sauce on top for our liking. We both like the atmosphere of the place though. I love the art and decorations and the service is relatively quick and nice. I would still come back here for their unique rolls, but I hope they fix the bitter cucumber. read more

My wife and I are sushi lovers and have generally been less than satisfied with the options in the Rogue Valley. Fortunately we recently discovered Star Sushi near Biddle and McAndrew. In March, having just returned from gorging ourselves on poke in Hawaii, we decided to give Star a try. We were immediately delighted with Chef Kevin's poke but also with the nigiri sushi and tempura that rivaled what we'd long ago experienced in Japan. Over the past three months we've paid a visit to Star every other week taking along a different set of friends each time and not once has anyone been disappointed. We applaud their food and friendly attention and happily award them five stars. Perhaps they should rebrand as Five Star Sushi. The food is just OK, they charge way to much for what little you get. I ordered the volcano roll with an order of spring rolls. These were the worst spring rolls I have ever had. They were tiny and made like a small egg roll instead of the light crispy wrap that is associated with a spring roll. I have never seen a volcano roll so small for $20.00. This was some delicious sushi! I ordered the California rolls and a variety of Nigiri sushi. The rolls were some of the best Calif. rolls I've tired, not sure why? But man, they were really tasty! The Nigiri was all very fresh and yummy! I was worried it would not be enough food to fill me up, but it was great, portion wise. I ordered two rolls from them on Friday. I was told I had to pay over the phone for the order. Ok... weird but so long as I got a receipt I could deal with it. I sent my wife to pick it up and she was not offered the receipt and they added a 4.50 tip in addition to what I ordered. I ordered a cucumber salad (emphasize on SALAD), i got served a bowl a sliced cucumbers with sesame seeds (no dressing, no sauce) I could have done the same in my hotel room... Our waitress forgot several items and had to be reminded more than once. Yes, it was pretty busy, and I am forgiving of how difficult it is to get and maintain staffing these days, but forgetfulness is a different story. I've ordered here a few times before and had good service and a very helpful chef. But, always to go. I order my food with out gluten & corn due to server allergies. We get there, they said it will be a little longer. People who walked in after I came to grab the food had meals on their tables before I was given my 3 rolls. We felt very unwelcome. If you're a minority please don't come here! I ordered a bento box with teriyaki chicken. The miso soup was good, not the best I've ever had, but not bad either. My mom got the salmon and she said it was delicious. My dad got spicy chicken and he said it was good. The tempura shrimp was excellent! It was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of batter and crunch. I was there the previous week and each spoonful had so much seafood like octopus, mussels, scallops, and a large calamari ring. This time I noticed it only had cut up imitation crab meat so I mentioned it to both wait staff working. That's the only reason for the 3 star rating.
