Among nearby Starbucks, this is probably one of the better ones. I came by for some working on a weekday afternoon while waiting for some car maintenance. First off, inside is pretty dimly lit, but that was no issue today with a lot of natural lighting through the windows. I think this might be an issue on any more than an overcast day, but today it was a nice vibe for working. Plenty of seats-- tables, couches, counters-- to go around at this location. Always come here when I am home to visit my parents in Merion. Grew up in this area. Usually I come with my siblings and a handful of nieces and nephews. We walk .7 miles and it's part of a weekend routine we look forward to every time we come home. The kids love their cake pops and hot cocoa. Though lines can be long on Sat mornings, baristas have been accommodating with the long orders. Some baristas are definitely more friendly than others. This Starbucks isn't great, but it's not bad at all. This location has a fairly large parking lot if you play in the back parking. This store has a few spots where you can eat outside. However, they are almost always taken during the summer. This store is not small, but it is laid out awkwardly. It pretty much goes vertically. Anyway this location is almost always packed, but the staff does a great job of avoiding long lines and holdups for drinks. The seating arrangements can be difficult as they are usually taken. However, with a little searching you can find some seating accommodations. They also have some very comfortable seats located by their Yuletide style fireplaces. I wonder if it is one of those Amish fireplaces. They also have newspapers for sale as well as the Starbuck's coffee machines. Finally, the store has a "Bala Cynwyd Happenings" board. I have been going to this Starbucks for YEARS and the baristas are always so genuinely amazing. They take the time to help you figure out what you want (if you want), they always make the drink perfectly and their customer service is off the charts. Shout out to Ayda, one of their many excellent baristas. I asked her to advise me on what holiday drink to get and she crafted the most amazing drink that I've had every day since. (Chai latte with pumpkin cold cream, a pump of white mocha, and a pump of pumpkin sauce). I'm not quite sure what it is about this place, but even when this bucks is slow, it still takes an eternity to get your drink order. I have had to wait about 8-16 minutes at different times just for an iced coffee. Compared to my usual bucks in Boston that I just came from, this seems unorganized. Update: From coming here more often, I'm noticing this place is chronically understaffed during peak hours. I feel bad for the baristas because they can hardly keep up when the lines get so long. It leaves me wondering, where is management during all this? I'm adding an extra star for the baristas that work as hard as they do. I was torn between a 5-star and a 1-star review. Why? That seems absurd. It is usually a positive experience given the staff and the pace (your mileage may vary) but I have never encountered a more entitled, rude customer-base (well, perhaps in parts of Asia). Having consumed this beverage now for about 5 years at the rate of one a day I can say without a doubt that if I had saved the money I would be driving a Kia Spectra that I had paid for in cash ( with Navigation too! ). Starbucks , 138 Montgomery Ave location. A delightful cast of characters runs this place. Its a Starbucks so everything available at any other Starbucks is on offer here , no surprise there really. They do have a nice fireplace and comfy chairs around it. The place is always clean which is not always the case at other Starbucks. 5 stars Side note, ever notice the "Music Download Of The Week" cards? I always laugh when I see these because the initial use for these was to promote unknown artists to people by offering a free download. Fair enough. When I saw Paul McCartney one day as a free download though , I laughed to myself "hey, I've heard of this McCartney guy, I think he is going places! Though I'm not usually a fan of the corporate coffee, I will give this place props for being one of the more cozier places to study at with a group of uni classmates on a weeknight. They've got a lot of table space that's prime for a few hours of nose-to-the-book cramming, plus they keep this place amazingly clean. The vibe is down-to-earth enough that you won't have to worry about gossipy Main Line socialites complaining about their latest Brazilian blowout fiasco. Parking in the lot can be a pain, but be sure to check behind the building and on the street if it looks too full. read more

First off, the advertising in the store is horrible. There was a display of breakfast sandwiches that were labeled collectively as "breakfast sandwiches". No further descriptions for each sand which. So if you wanted a specific sandwich you saw, you had no idea what to tell the cashier. When I told the cashier I wanted a breakfast sandwich she frustratedly asked, "which one?". Well maybe if you labeled them I would know which one I wanted. She also failed to inform me of the options which in turn led to me canceling the whole order. Horrible customer service. Revision due to recent experiences! This Starbucks has a lot to offer- it's a Clover store, the seating is so plentiful that's it shocking and it's quite clean. Loads of additional parking in the back! Today my Starbucks app wasn't loading my reward properly. Instead of writing me off for not having a freebie (which seems to be common), my barista was so professional. She scanned it a few times until it finally worked! Even though the clover machine produces a rather consistent product, this one was top notch...a sign of a great brewer. While cleaning the store, the associate was more than accommodating and didn't ask customers to move or get out of her way. In fact, she actually apologized for cleaning. Took the grandkids here the other day. We've been to many Starbucks - G-d know there are enough of them - throughout the country. This was is basically on par with others. You can't always find a table, since this place is fairly small - this can be a pain. Otherwise, this place is pretty good, but nothing great. Does the trick though. Plenty of parking for cars but not enough seating for humans. Has outdoor seating, which is a nice extra - only when the weather is good, of course. The grandkids really like coming here. read more

This store is the worst Starbucks that I've been to. There is an employee named Dev. She's one of the most horrible people I've ever encountered in my life. Dev made my drink wrongly and when I politely asked her to remake my drink she flipped out on me and told me I was being rude and ganged up on me with one of her fellow employee. This SBUX, on Montgomery Avenue, is infinitely better than the Ardmore location. Ardmore seems to draw a more "swanky" crowd while this one has more down-to-earth neighborhood folks. And, there's much more room here, and a nice fake fireplace. Sometimes drivers wrangle over the limited number of free parking spaces, but there's plenty of metered street parking. read more

This is my favorite Starbucks. The service is incredibly fast. Even when they are croweded with a long line, the staff never falters and drinks are always excellent and come out quickly. If there's something wrong with your drink, they will make you another one without giving you a problem about it. Lots of seating (inside), and a few tables outside. The baristas are excellent, and they often times remember my drink as soon as I walk in the door. My only gripe is that the music in the evening gets a too loud for a coffee shop, and the staff likes to play weird 80's music (perhaps because the staff likes it?). Great Starbucks. Plenty of seating, and DIVERSE seating (armchairs facing a real fireplace, handicap-accessible/designated larger tables, group tables, mini tables, couches with tables alongside the wall, outdoor, etc.) The employees are quick, efficient and professional. It can get pretty crowded depending on the time of day and on weekends, but if you pick your time wisely, it can be a pretty great study spot. Of course, there is the standard constant music playing, so if that's not within your study habit, bear that in mind. Also, there are two different single bathrooms, which I think is more than your average starbucks (= less waiting). read more

When I lived in the neighborhood, I enjoyed spending time here for multiple reasons. It's a cool space for hanging out, and the people who work there are always friendly It's actually not a bad Starbucks for studying either; there is always a solid presence of students from the nearby high schools, colleges, and medical schools. I'd say this one has more than the average number of seats and tables, but do expect it to get packed like any Starbucks would be throughout the day. Lot parking can be a bit challenging as it shares the spots with a few businesses in this small strip mall type building. I must say I am pretty disappointed with this Starbucks. Now I know Starbucks pretty much despises tea drinkers, the simple fact is... they sell it. And when a business sells something, I typically expect that place to re-stock as need be. Unfortunately, for the past 3 weeks, this Starbucks has been out of English breakfast tea and earl grey tea. Today, I asked the barista when they were expecting to get more and she said said tomorrow... Funny thing is, I asked the same thing a week ago. I then turned around and looked on the shelves where they sell items, and what do you know, there was two boxes of English breakfast tea. Strange.
