Located inside the Sak's Fifth Avenue shopping center, this quaint coffee shop totes quality brews and blends. With a simple but robust menu there is something to satisfy every type of coffee lover. I ordered an iced Americano with oat milk that was so good, I didn't even take a picture. I also ordered one of the best almond croissants I've tasted. The woman taking orders was pleasant. There is outside seating for the plaza a few steps away for the coffee shop with a lovely breeze. Perfect place to sip your coffee. We were in the area for a work trip and wanted to grab a quick coffee. Top Hat was on my list. It's an unassuming, little space. You'd easily miss it since it's in kind of a weird place in the building. Plus there's not really any indicator of it from outside. Service was quick. I went with an iced mocha which was delicious. So I came here when I was in the area and needed a quick bite to eat and space to be productive. A friend had recommended Top Hat Coffee Lounge (esp waffles!) long ago so I had it on my list and was delighted to see it was nearby. However, I quickly realized this was not the right location and instead I need to go to the one on Walnut. Regardless, this one is hidden in a shopping/medical center and is right next to the Saks Fifth Avenue. I think it serves its purpose for employees/patients in the building but otherwise nothing extraordinary. I did enjoy my chai latte (their mix is more sweet than spice) and I had a plain croissant (limited pickings later in the day). They close around 3p so keep that in mind if you need to get work done. It is super convenient that once this place closes there are a few tables in the spacious hallway that you can still use afterwards. read more

As another reviewer said, a hidden gem indeed. There is only one person who currently works here. I am guessing he is an/the owner or a manager. The location doesn't have breakfast food like the other but it is still a nice location. The place is a bit hard to find as they are not allowed to advertise outside. You have to enter the building and look around on the first floor. From the main entrance, go straight and then make a right. It will be on your left. (This also implies that this place will be super quiet if that is what you want.) I wouldn't normally look for a coffee shop or such in a medical building as a person could feel out of place. But a TooGoodToGo order took me here. Naturally, people who work in the building stop here and random hotel guests in the area as well. Not a lot of foot traffic and free wi-fi! A great quiet place to work if the hours work out for you. I have to work until 6 so until 3 pm would not be ideal for me unfortunately. I also decided to get the Velvet Shakerato special because I always want a different item I can't really get elsewhere. I couldn't take it out and had to drink on-site but I cared more about trying the drink than the convenience. The coffee staffer rarely gets to make that special apparently. It has (thanks Instagram!!) espresso, vanilla, brown sugar, cream (cream helps a lot), and some Hersheys chocolate grated at the end. I didn't taste any "bitters" so either it was covered by the other ingredients or more likely a Hersheys chocolate bar replaced the chocolate bitters. I also poignantly noticed the employee didn't want to use chocolate that fell out onto the counter. Even though I didn't feel the counter was dirty and don't really think of these things too much, it was nice of him to be extra considerate. He might've had to throw those chocolate pieces away but I would have gladly not wanted them to go to waste. But I am not most people and not everyone would want to do TooGoodToGo either. What looks like a lemon pastry is actually a ham and cheese pastry. I got surprised. Still good! No allergies here thankfully!! Also, if you're doing TooGoodToGo, better to order the night before as it may sell out. Pick up time is between 8 AM - 1 PM (awesome options, subject to change). Planning can be important for this kind of thing. read more

I've tried Top Hat Coffee Lounge by the UPenn campus, but I'm glad I discovered this new location! It's definitely hidden within a plaza and is situated within the walkway as you exit Saks Fifth Avenue. While the space is small, there is still plenty to order in terms of drinks and several pastries as well. The staff greeted us with a very warm welcome and was patient while we decided on our drinks. My friend and I both ordered oat matcha lattes, which were delicious and tasted like high-quality matcha as we were told :) The added perk is that he did not charge us for substituting our milk with oat milk, so thank you for that! read more

This hidden gem is a great place to stop for coffee and a quick bite. A short 10 min walk from the Philadelphia Amtrak station its the perfect place to rest before or after travel or spend a few hours working. I had the chai latte which was delicious and paired with one of their speciality waffles. I will say that this was a bit of a sugar overload but they were worth it! The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming! I highly recommend to anyone in the area. read more

Literally no signage, so if you aren't specifically heading there, you will never see it. Solid coffee, strong and not bitter. Barista, a very nice guy, makes you feel welcome. My sisters and I came in the morning to grab coffee before a funeral. The barista didn't greet us, he just stared at us, it was weird. When my sister asked him a question about what was in a drink, he pointed at a paper and told her to read it. After we ordered, the barista would put out the drink or pastry on the counter and we weren't sure which was for who. My sister asked if the croissant on the counter was the one she ordered and the barista in a rude tone said "That is A croissant. Not sure if it's yours, you're all in black"... but then a friend walks in to order a few minutes later and he was super nice to her... Seems to me service sucks unless you know the barista. The only drinks that were good were the cold brew that he didn't make himself. The matcha latte, cappuccino, and whatever else we had was not good at all. Four out of six drinks were awful.
