Odd Starbucks. Only a few friendly baristas. The rest are cold and do not act friendly. Drinks are subpar and always lacking.

Unbelievably slow service. 2 employees standing and watching others mix drinks. Why does it take so long to get a simple black coffee?

Extremely friendly staff. I've been a customer for around a year and the drinks are super consistent form each time I've been there. This Starbucks is busy, but it comes with the territory since it's right next to campus. Clean store with interesting music choices occasionally. read more

If you haven't ever had a Strawberry Açaí Lemonade Refresher I highly recommend this drink. Been addicted 3 years and counting. As far as the Mango Dragonfruit Refresher has a unique taste, it is very good you can't taste the Mango due to the flavor of the Dragonfruit but it is very sweet and almost perfect. Nothing can top the Açaí to me personally. Now to the Turkey Bacon, Egg White, and Cheddar I underestimated this sandwich. The breading wasn't dry at all it was the perfect amount of moisture, each bite you can taste the flavor of each ingredient. I come here before or after classes to get my work done sometimes. I love this location and I know they are understaffed by talking to a couple of baristas. My last visit though, I had an order that was messed up and I politely went back up and asked for the right item and was given major attitude and frustration and then the manager proceeded to tell the barista who took my order that she did nothing wrong. I was definitely rubbed the wrong way considering that my order was put in wrong. And as I sit here and watch orders being taken, you can see the irritation and annoyance on the manager's face and she is talking to customers. Just wanted to make it known that all of us are having to deal with short-staffed jobs and we all go through something every day so let's not be so rude! read more

Stopped at 10 o'clock in the morning and the bathroom was closed for cleaning. Why wouldn't you do that first thing in the morning or before you close the night before? The drink I ordered was a Starbucks Refresher and it tasted delicious but there was one problem.... THE CUP WAS 85% ICE!!! I drove through the drive through and I sucked the thing down in 10 seconds. This location is extremely busy since it's the closes Starbucks to NIU's campus so be prepared to wait sometimes. Not a big deal for me usually. Also, all of the employees are very kind and accommodating. Only problems are drinks are inconsistent (which is every Starbucks), and the location is a little small so during peak times there are not enough seats for me to sit down and study or hang out with friends. read more

I think it is a little hard to write a review on chains like Starbucks. They are all pretty much cookie cutters because there is a set layout to all their stores, it's just a matter of space, but what makes the difference is the employees in my opinion. Surprised to see that we as a nation haven't grown out of this "over-pay for coffee" fad. Anyway, the high prices could be forgiven if I could count on consistency, but my experiences have varied wildly. Coffee too strong one day is too weak the next; Frappuccinos are too sweet one day, insipid the next. The only consistent thing is how awful the teas are. Don't bother. This Starbucks is hit or miss sometimes the staff is friendly and pleasant, lately most of the time I have felt like I was under the impression that I was bothering them. I can deal with the fake smiles and over exaggerated greetings. What I don't understand is the Luke warm coffee, no cream at the condiments table. I mean this is a coffee shop right. I've stopped by this Starbucks a few times on trips to DeKalb with the boyfriend when we visit his brother and his wife. I've never had any issue with the way that the drinks are made. They've been made find every time. However, the service is hit or miss. I came in on Sunday and redeemed a treat receipt. If you buy a drink before 2pm, you can get an iced grande drink for $2 plus tax after 2pm. The cashier charged me correctly for the drink, which wasn't the issue. However, he was a bit rude when I asked for my receipt back. I keep my receipts to calculate expenses during the month. He seemed to think that I wanted it so I could get the $2 drink again. Mind you that it was almost 8pm by that time so am I really going to get a coffee drink that late? Anyway, he gave it back to me. I just didn't appreciate being interrogated about it. But eh, despite that incident, I would come back here again if in the area. read more

There are a few gems that work here, but most of the employees I've encountered have been very rude and lacking in the friendly department. One gentleman that runs the drive thru often says "is that all?" after every single drink. No, it isn't. Pause and wait for me to continue my order without being annoyed. The middle aged woman that works the counter is also very rude and unpleasant. She just stares at you as you approach the counter while customers greet HER! It's so awkward! I love Starbucks. I go there every morning to get my coffee. Most of time this location has friendly employees except they never spell my name right for my drinks. What is ridiculous is. Last week, I went to get my morning latte, after I told the barista how to spell my name, she still gave me random name "Olivia" for my drink without telling me. So I was waiting for them to call me to get my drink, 4 minutes later I still have not got my drink and another barista gave me angry staring ask me "what are you waiting for" I said" latte" she looked at me like I am stupid push the drink in front of me. My biggest complaint about this location is that there are never ANY open tables. This is indeed a smaller store than most, and due to its proximity to NIU's academic halls, people are always there studying or chilling with friends. So I'd recommend ordering through the app, going through the drive-thru, or just walking in and leaving with your order. You probably won't have much luck if you're hoping to sit inside. read more

Most of the time, the workers at this Starbucks are not very friendly and look very tired all the time. BUT, there's this really nice blonde girl that works there - with her hair always tied up and super super friendly. She literally makes my day when I go in there after a crummy day because she's so upbeat and makes me feel surprisingly and pleasantly cared about. read more

I always make sure to stop at this Starbucks location over the one on Rt. 23 because the customer service is top notch. The baristas are always very friendly, and on the one occasion my order was messed up they fixed it without question even though I returned a few hours later. Worst service ever. Sat in the drive thru line for 20 minutes. No way to escape. The guy behind me even had everyone back up so he could leave. No apology for the wait and barely a thank you for being a customer. When I asked what the delay was, the girl cheerily replied "well it is frappy hour." How cheesey. Just wanted a quick coffee to end a tough Friday, and their lack of sincerity made me want to scream! Don't go between the hours of 3 and 4 pm unless you have no where better to be.
