late to the game and missing out on years of starbucks app perks, i finally caved and downloaded the app.
almost immediately, i was rewarded with a 50% off welcome beverage offer, clearly the app knew exactly how to convince me. i haven't fully converted to ordering through the app yet, but i figured i should at least claim the reward.
this was a monday, just before 4:00 pm, when i decided it was time for a much needed hydration break. while exploring place ville marie, i stopped by the starbucks located inside the complex and noticed it had the starbucks reserve designation, a fun little surprise.
starbucks reserve locations are a more elevated concept within the brand, typically offering a more curated experience with unique coffees, specialty beverages, and a focus on premium ingredients and preparation methods. while this location still felt familiar, the reserve designation added a little extra curiosity to the stop.
i was pleasantly surprised to find no lineup. i ordered my usual at the counter, and the baristas were friendly, efficient, and had my drink ready quickly.
the drink itself was exactly what i expected from starbucks, consistent, familiar, and satisfying. it's the kind of reliability that keeps people coming back.
my only hesitation was the cup.
i've noticed a trend throughout montreal where even iced drinks are being served in paper cups. i'm wondering if this is part of an effort to be more environmentally friendly, and if so, i appreciate the intention. i'm definitely supportive of making more sustainable choices.
but i do have mixed feelings.
the downside is losing the visual experience of the drink. part of the fun of an iced beverage is seeing the layers, colours, and toppings before taking that first sip. the paper cup also slowly loses its shape as the drink sits, making it feel a little less appealing.
presentation may not change the taste, but it definitely adds to the experience.
friendly baristas, no wait, and a solid drink, everything was good. i just wish i could actually see it. read more
