We gave a little benefit of the doubt because they're were only 2 people, but this place was not packed. We got our food maybe 45mins after initially arriving, and our drinks also took a while. When I finally got my food, it was drenched in oil. Mind you it was an omelette. When I asked about it the waitress said "that's probably how we make it. Do you want a new one?" One small heads-up: the menu is a digital screen, and it wasn't working when I visited -- so you're ordering a bit blind, leaning on the bakery case and whatever the staff can tell you. Not a dealbreaker, but worth knowing going in. And you're really here for the baked goods, which hold up. The kouign-amann was the standout -- deeply caramelized, lacquered, shatteringly flaky with that signature sugar crust. I also grabbed two macarons (a berry-pink one and a teal with chocolate filling) that were exactly right: crisp shell, chewy center, generous filling. No complaints. The case is stocked with range -- lemon bars, quiche, chocolate cherry walnut cookies, confetti sandwich cookies, Florentines, a vegan peanut butter option, pineapple upside-down, and more. Plenty of GF and vegan labeling, which is nice to see. You can watch them pulling fresh trays from the proofer behind the counter. A few other notes: it's a small operation, so selection depends on what's come out of the oven that day, and the working area behind the counter is tight and a little cluttered (charming, but not polished). Corner parking is street-only and that intersection gets busy. Bottom line -- a genuinely good Richmond bakery with real pastry chops and a beautiful corner space. Now usually it's pretty common for Starbucks to run out of items, it happens and I understand. But this Starbucks is exclusively out of everything. Out of the 50 times I've been here I think maybe once they've had their sandwiches available. It's a high volume store, so I get that they would often be out of items but whoever does the ordering just really needs to increase their supply. Today I ordered a bagel with cream cheese, and they forgot the cream cheese. People are human they forget things but after being extremely neglected only a few minutes prior I felt really let down. A bagel is just bread. You really gotta have that cream cheese. In addition to today most of the time I come here it's about a 45 minute wait for the drive thru even if it's five cars ahead of me. Every. Time. I have to say I won't be going to the Starbucks anymore. It crushed my heart when I seen an obituary of him as soon as you walk inside the store. Mr. Ed was my buddy he was so kind with a genuine soul, I saw him every morning. When he told me about certain types of herbs that help's with pain. Mr. Ed talked about his big family all the time. It's one of the reasons why when I hadn't seen him for a while, maybe he was hanging with family. I would have never thought he was dead. He made I big impact on me and he will truly be missed!

The crowd very much seemed to be coming out of church services. I found several useful items in a store that was clean, well maintained. It would be on the smaller end for a major grocer, but it's bigger than most specialty food markets. I'm glad it's there. I wish there were more places like it.
