You can tell she takes a lot of pride in her business and the quality of product they deliver. In addition to caffeinated beverages and bakery items, they have an impressive menu of sandwiches and lunch items. We kept things simple by ordering an iced cafe mocha, a dark roast coffee, and a chocolate croissant. You can tell they use high quality ingredients since the iced cafe mocha had chocolate flakes in them, but somehow managed to accent the beverage perfectly without making it too sweet. The chocolate croissant tasted absolutely delicious and had a wonderful chocolate filling inside unlike most traditional recipes...we both agreed it was great and tasty. The owner mentioned she gets her croissants from Europe and does the filling and final baking on premises to serve it hot. I'm not aware of any bakeries that go to all that trouble, but it makes for a high quality product. All in all, an excellent coffee and pastry experience at By The Bay Bistro...it's a place I hope to return to and would recommend to others visiting the Venice, Florida area.
