Choosing the right photographer was as important to myself as finding my dream dress. I have been following the Starks for years and fell in love with their work and I knew then that if I ever got married they were the only choice for me. I was drawn to their creativity, uniqueness, talent and experience. Since I am in California and that are in Portland I worked with different photographers for my engagement shoot, and I must say after working with the Stark's what a difference! And I'm not just speaking in terms of the quality of the photograph or editing style and I'm also speaking in terms of the quality of the photographer. Daniel wasn't shy about laying in a dirt road, or climbing fences just to get a shot he envisioned. It was an experience simply watching him see something that I certainly didn't see. I have been in awe looking at my wedding pictures, and pretty mesmerized by the shots he got. To say I'm so in love with our photographs is an understatement. I can't thank them enough for capturing the love and beauty of our special day and because of that we are able to relive those moments frame by frame. We planned our wedding around Daniel's availability. Need I say more? Oh okay, fine, I'll say more. I'm a wedding photographer too, so I knew from the beginning that choosing our photographer would be the single most important decision we would make as we planned our wedding. It was more important than clothes or flowers or even the venue, because none of that compared in value to the ability to relive our wedding memories when we're old and gray. I knew that the images from our wedding would be priceless reminders of all the emotion and moments of our day. What I wasn't prepared for was how awesome the experience would be. I found Daniel on the WPJA website and quickly fell in love with his work. We were planning a summer wedding, so I wrote to him a full year in advance, only to find out that he was already almost booked up for the following summer and only had two Saturdays left! We didn't have our venue booked yet because the venue we wanted wouldn't open reservations until January, but we met with Daniel and quickly picked one of his open Saturdays, crossing our fingers that our venue plans would come together later. It was a gamble, but it was worth it. We did an engagement session before our wedding, which I highly recommend, not just because having engagement photos is awesome (we used prints of them as wedding décor and for our guestbook), but it gives you a great opportunity to get to know your photographer. By the time our wedding day rolled around, we were completely at ease in front of the camera, and Daniel blended right in with our people as he covered every angle of our wedding day. Although we always knew that hiring Daniel would be the best wedding investment we made, it's a total delight now to watch and listen as everyone else realizes it, delightedly soaking up all the memories and emotions of our wedding through his artful documentation. Daniel is incredibly talented at capturing moments and stories through his lens, and we're thrilled that we can relive our wedding day through his beautiful photographs. We used Daniel Stark for our summer Portland wedding, and we could not have been happier with our choice. I am picky about photography. When it came to documenting my wedding, I knew I didn't want just a stacks of traditional posed shots, I wanted something that took my breath away and truly captured my husband and I as individuals. Thank goodness I was able to find Daniel Stark. Daniel's pictures are truly breathtaking. He captures all the important moments, but also all the little spontaneous moments of the day. His photo-journalistic style was exactly what we wanted. Daniel & Lindsey are AS GOOD AS IT GETS in the wedding photography category. We were so lucky to have them capturing our day and didn't have to worry about a thing. When we received our more than 650 photos, my husband and I bothLOVED every single one. It was also extra special to receive a slide show accompanied by music to share with our friends and family, a unique touch that really brought back the emotions of the day. They have a unique talent for making people feel comfortable and for blending into the event, capturing unique moments and details without being intrusive. The editing style is very artistic and romantic. Their ability to capture all the indoor moments of our relatively dark reception space and wide shots of our ceremony space without losing quality was also amazing. Their photos really told our wedding day story and captured all the emotion of the day in such an effective way, better than a video could. They are both very intuitive and really captured the personality of every single guest in the photos. Bar none, their work is the most beautiful I have ever seen. At the suggestion of three other couples who had used them to photograph their weddings, we used Daniel and Lindsay to photograph both an engagement photo shoot and our March 2013 wedding. We could not have made a better choice! The two of them were absolutely wonderful! During our engagement photo shoot, my husband and I were very nervous because we weren't accustomed to having our pictures taken. They put us at ease and took some of the most beautiful pictures I have ever seen - and somehow we were the main focus! Honestly, they were expert at putting the two of us at ease. We've used Stark Photography for our engagement photos, wedding photos, and photos after we had our first child! Each experience has been better than we could have imagined. Daniel and his wife Lindsay are amazing photographers and we were lucky enough to be able to have them as our wedding photographers. Throughout the planning process they were relaxed and helpful. They promptly responded to all of our email questions/worries and put us at ease. They did a great job making us feel at ease while capturing the moment. They can blend in with the wedding to get the best candid photos and when they find a great opportunity for a special shot then make it happen. They were alway there when we asked for impromptu portraits with various combinations of friends and family. There were parts of the day, like getting ready, and after the ceremony photos with just me and my new husband that I felt like they really helped me feel in the moment. I wanted to wait until the photos came out before posting a review on Stark photography. Working with them for our engagement & wedding was an amazing experience in itself but of course we are paying them for the pictures. I am glad that I waited to write this review because I feel totally justified to rave on about how amazing they are. My husband & I chose our photographers first when we got engaged because we both agreed that in the end that's all you have left. We were told that you wont remember your wedding day because of all the craziness that goes on so we wanted to hire a photographer that could capture the moments that we would miss. We didn't want to hire a videographer because we couldn't see ourselves watching our wedding over and over again (maybe few times and then it would just sit there). We looked at MANY photographers in Portland area & met up with few of them. We loved stark photographer when we first saw their work on their webpage because they made something so simple into an art. It was vibrant with simplicity yet capturing the complexity of human emotions. I loved going through the photos they took, because I honestly don't remember my own wedding and from the photos, it looked like everyone had a blast. You will get your normal family photos & wedding photos that looks amazing (like off the magazine amazing) but addition to that they will capture emotions of your guests on that day which is pretty awesome to look through. BTW you get both Lindsay & Daniel for engagement & wedding session so you are technically getting two professional photographers for the price of one & they work amazingly well together (I guess it helps that they are married). Our wedding party had a blast with them not only during the picture taking time but dancing as well (don't worry, while Daniel dances, Lindsey is working hard capturing those moments ). When you look for and hire a wedding photographer one should look at their photos, analyze their prices and scour their blog looking for any indication that you love their artistic view. You meet them, you like them, you sign the contract and all is good. What you don't realize is that on the day of your wedding you spend more time with your wedding photographer(s) than with any other person, including your partner. So this person being someone you enjoy being around is very important. Luckily Daniel and Lindsay are an amazing duo who play off of each other and see things in ways and calculate light like nothing I've ever seen. They have a nice sense of calm that makes your day feel like its going smoothly. Lindsay made an executive decision for us in a moment of confusion that helped SO much. While not the wedding planner she certainly has been to a few weddings and knows how things go. Their amazing sense of humor helps ease the awkward that can ensue with mixing families, friends who maybe have had too much to drink and those ever so gag worthy forced romantic shots that too many photographers butcher. They encourage romance, they love what they do, and they are damn good at it. We would use them a hundreds times over given the chance. read more

The Starks did my husband's cousin's wedding and as soon as I saw their photos I knew that they would be shooting my wedding, even though we weren't even engaged at that point! We contacted them as soon as we had a date set and thankfully they were available. They were great about working with us to get an engagement shoot in (they're in Portland, husband and I are in the Bay Area, CA) and I couldn't have been happier with how those pictures and our wedding photos turned out. I love how they frame their photos differently than most other artists. I looked at about 10-15 sets of wedding photos taken by different photographers at our venue and they all started to look the same/generic. Our wedding photos do not look ANYTHING like the others and for that I am so grateful. Our photos are unique and gorgeous and I highly, HIGHLY recommend Daniel & Lindsay! read more
