Although I've purchased 1 car and 3 SUVs from the MtP dealership, and have been a loyal customer with repairs, I find myself not confident in Starling's maintenance department or commitment to honest repairs any longer. Overlooking the previous & questionable visit (a brake job that I've come to suspect wasn't necessary), I was recently quoted thousands of dollars of work to fix a simple ignition coil failure, Code P0305. Starling didn't bother with the simplest and most affordable diagnostics (switch cylinder coils and see if the problem moves) yet recommended tearing the motor down (for thousand$$$) & replace spark plugs for "$500" (unbelievable). I retrieved the car after a week of their bewilderment, bought the parts (spark plug, plug wire and ignition coil) and fixed in less than 30 minutes. I complained to the customer rep (the only shining light in this episode) but his management hasn't bother with a call back, an explanation, apology or reimbursement. This bothers me most because I can no longer trust my two GM vehicles with their care. Consumers beware is all I can suggest. read more

I wasn't there with her and I didn't get a chance to see her new car until a cpl weeks later. When I finally did check it out, I noticed that the tires had maybe 15% of the tread left on them, there were massive chunks taken out of the sidewalls and the actual tires were all different and manufactured between 2015 and 2017. When I went up to the dealership with her to bring it to the dealership's attention, they told us they couldn't do anything about it and showed us on the "inspection" where their manager checked off that the tires were in great condition. We ended up having to replace all 4 tires within the 1st month because 2 burst out of the inside sidewall on the Highway and the other 2 just stopped holding air. This brings me to this past week. For the last month the AC has been out on this vehicle....a 2022..and after a month of trying, we finally go an appointment for them to check it out since...it was all under Warranty. We dropped it off on the 7th and when she picks it up today(8th) she tells me that 1. They did a refrigerant recharge. 2. They don't actually know what is causing her AC to not work and that she needs to take it to the KIA dealership and 3. They charge her $206 for a "diagnostic" Fee...They charged a Diagnostic fee and didn't diagnose anything or ever find out what might be the problem!! That's ok though Starling. We'll see what a judge in small claims court thinks about you charging fees for things you didn't do. This place is 100% a SCAM and they only thing they care about is seeing how much $ they can squeeze from you with as minimal amount of work possible. Terrible service. Told me they could not reproduce the problem and that my car was not ready and then suddenly it was ready. I wanted to order them from the closest dealership so I wouldn't have to drive the thirty miles to the other store. The parts guy basically refused to help me because I hadn't purchased the engine from them. It's a Chevy part from the Chevy catalog! Any paying customer should be able to walk in and buy any part from them regardless of where the initial purchase was made. read more

Today I contacted Starling with a simple question. I found a listing for a Chevy Truck on line and asked if they had a similar vehicle for the same price. I cut and pasted the listing over their "Can I help you messaging box". They responded with a similar vehicle that was $10,000 higher. I replied that the vehicle was similar however the price was $10,000 higher. They asked if I wanted a used vehicle. I stated that they should read the information provided as the vehicle was listed as new. They responded either come by or stop responding. The net of this story is the following. They should have read the information provided and answered no they do not. I assume their strategy was to get me to the location and haggle. Might be a good approach for some however I prefer a straight answer. I actually prefer honesty which seems a good distance down the road these days. I rated the experience as a 1 Star as they responded and found a vehicle. They also succeeded in loosing a potential customer. read more

My experience couldn't have been better. I called last week regarding the check engine light and Mr. Shane Nicely was very helpful on the phone. They were able to get me in at my earliest convenience. I brought my car down this morning for an 8:30 appointment. They were able to tell me what was wrong within an hour and fix it within an hour and a half! I was extremely impressed. I dropped off my 2006 silverado that was having some electrical issues. After a brand new ignition switch I was told that I needed a new wiper motor because the old one was "burned up" $600. I said no thank you. They needed to keep the truck for the rest of the day to "put it back together" which was no problem. I pick the truck up and there was a delay in turning the key and the truck starting and the airbag light was on. The part that pisses me off the most was the absolute disregard for the fact I got my truck back from the dealership worse than when it was dropped off. They told me a sensor was bad. It went bad while they were working on the truck. I was told " I don't know what to tell ya". I took it to the dealership against my better judgment. Don't let it happen to you! read more

I had my car towed to starling with two flat tires. I needed the tires replaced and an alignment. I have a Chevy Cruze that I purchased from starling 3 years ago so I figured the dealership would be the best place to help. They charged me $215 per tire saying that was the cheapest option available (more than double their competitors) and then charged another $190 for labor and alignment. Add on fees/taxes and I walked away $685 out of pocket. I know they took advantage of me because my car was already there and could not be driven off the lot! I will never go to starling again. These prices are outrageous. Truly 2-3 times other tire shops on the same block. I have been a loyal Chevy owner my entire life and this experience made me sick. But then I took it in to put running boards on it a few weeks later and I've never been so unimpressed by a service dept in my life. They just don't care at all. Do not purchase a used car from this dealership! I was sold a lemon. I purchased a BMW 528i two months ago. The buying experience was excellent and Jonathan Baker was great. I'm thankful I opted to purchase the extended warranty. The day I bought the car, I was told the vehicle needed a new oil pan and that it was on order and they would call the following week to have me come in for service. They would cover the cost and i had no issue with that. I noticed the car smoked badly from the engine at each stoplight and when the car was idling. I ended up waiting 3 weeks for a phone call from service, but nothing. I called service and they had no record of the part being ordered or my vehicles VIN in the system. Service called back a few days later and said they ordered the part and it would be in the following week. I dropped my car off that following week and was told the smoking would stop as it was a result of needing an oil pan. I also asked if they could look at the drivers side seat controls as that entire contraption/part randomly fell off of the seat one day. I was given a loaner vehicle and they fixed the oil pan quickly but didn't touch the seat controls. A few more days went by and the car began smoking at stoplights/idle even worse than before. I just dropped the vehicle off for service again today and asked if it would be covered under warranty and they said "i don't know yet." I also asked for a loaner car but they said they can't do loaners because of their new covid guidelines...even though i was given a loaner just a few weeks prior in the midst of covid. I seriously question if my car was even inspected or looked at before they sold it to me. It has been nothing but issues and problems. I regret buying the vehicle at this point and wish i could just go back and go to another dealership that inspects their cars prior to sale. Too late for that now, unfortunately. I know the warranty of a Chevy volt and ask them if it was covered under warranty. They said no. I asked are you sure? They said yes we are sure it is not covered under warranty. At my risk I took the car to another dealer and they confirmed it was covered under warranty. when I brought this to the attention of starling they did not and would not return my call. I had to get the South Carolina Department of consumer affairs involved. After admitting blame, they said that they would refund my $150 diagnostics charge. Even though I gave them the right address, they sent it to a wrong address. It took many weeks to get my refund. If you need a competent, honest Chevrolet dealer drive the extra miles to West Ashley and ask for Wayne at Rick Hendrick Chevrolet. When the first words out of their mouth are "we can't get you what you want because of inventory shortages," it should have been a sign to run. Instead, I let them try to sell me a vehicle I didn't want, and then they got offended when they gave me "a great deal," and I said no. Keep in mind, their "great deal" started with an astronomically high price, which I laughed at them about and was getting ready to walk out. Miraculously, they were able to get it down to my price range, funny how that works. When a dealer plays that game, and tries to see what they can get out of you, they are unethical and can't be trusted. I bought a 2020 Silverado RST from the dealership several months back. Hooked up boat trailer (first time with this truck) and lights would not work. I am sure trailer works fine as I used another vehicle to hook it to during troubleshooting prior to taking it in. Long story short they told my truck was working as it should. I have learned trailer lighting is an issue with the newer Chevy's due to amperage and control box. They obviously have no comprehension of this as I repeatedly tried to point in this direction for resolution. Mike, the parts and service manager solution was "you will need to find a trailer that works with your truck." I guess I shop for trailers like clothing now, take my truck every time I buy a new boat or trailer. What a joke. Stay away from this place! read more

I have purchased 3 cars in about 7 years from this location. The name has changed since my first purchase and it has gone downhill since the name change. The sales team is great but the service team doesn't seem to know what is going on. I made an appointment 4 weeks in advance so I could have a loaner vehicle available for work. The service appt was for warranty work on a 2019 vehicle and is the 4th time I have brought the car in for the same issue. Once again they have no record of me and getting a loaner car is like I am being a huge inconvenience to them. No one seems to know who is doing what. I stood around for 40 minutes. No help. Needed a particular problem looked at but the technicians overlooked it. After bringing it to their attention, I was told the diagnostic fee but the rep failed to advise of the additional fees associated with the diagnostic service. Terrible service! Brought my 2018 Corvette Grand Sport in for a possible transmission (gear shifting) issue and also to confirm that the correct rear tires had been installed a few months back. I am getting a lot of slippage which I didn't have with the previous tires. So, was told a service bulletin had been issued for the gear issue but upon getting the vehicle back it was still having the same issue. Then when I took it back, was told that no issue was found. Was also told that the rear tires WERE NOT the correct ones and they put these on because the correct ones are backordered from the factory. I WAS NEVER TOLD THIS!!!!! I told them I want the correct tires put on as soon as they are available. Was told that the manager needed to approve this. Then was told that they were WRONG and the correct tires had been installed. Yeah right. And to determine all of the above - they kept the car for a total of 5 days.
