3/5 stars It had been years since I've eaten at Muss and Turner's and was excited to go for a celebratory dinner. Upon arriving, we noticed a heavy smoke filled the dining area. We thought the kitchen may have burned something given how hazy it was. We chose to eat in the back speakeasy instead. We ordered the shishito pepper appetizer dish which supposedly had a gochujang honey sauce on them. The sauce was cemented to the bottom of the dish so the peppers were plain. My steak cost $48 and was served cold as was the poblano creamed corn on the side. I sent it back and was shocked that they simply seemed to quickly reheat the steak, causing it to overcook. The corn was still served cold the second time around. I clarified with the server that it was indeed supposed to be a warm side dish. For the price of the dish, the quality was not there at all. The burger was nothing special- the standout of the dish were the fries. They were extremely crispy and flavorful. Overall, for the price of the meal, I was a bit shocked by how disappointing the food was. Presentation of the dishes was nice but I felt like they took no pride in what they were serving.

Some friends and I were in the area recently and went to dinner here. It was good. My husband & I ordered the Crispy Okra as an appetizer. They were good with breading and had a tasty dip that went with it. I ordered Todd's Token Salad as my dinner. It was good although it was a lot of lettuce. My friend ordered the same but she added grilled chicken. I think adding the chicken was a good idea to have more ingredients and n the salad. She ordered the small salad which didn't look that much different than the large salad that I ordered. My husband ordered the MOT salad. He said it was a lot of lettuce and didn't have a lot of flavor but he said it was ok. Some of my friends saved room to order dessert. One ordered a chocolate chip cookie which was very big with some vanilla ice cream. They really enjoyed it. Another friend ordered a mini cheesecake. They really enjoyed their desert as well.

So there's a lot of love about this establishment. There's a nice secretive entrance to the speakeasy and you get all types of cocktails and they were really good form old fashions to cocktails. I do appreciate the customer service our waitress was so attentive and knowledgeable. The food is pretty good too. I will say that I got the burger and fries and the fries were slightly overcooked, but I gave that a pass because the duck fried rice was excellent so overall I definitely will recommend this place.

Gotta check out Eleanor's bar (the speakeasy in the back)! It's such a FUN, cozy experience, rooted in a rich family story/ legacy. I'd love to go back. We went on a Sunday evening, in which they did a special Indian menu (we were told the chef had trained with authentic). Nonetheless, we ordered from the regular menu (and our boring selves each ordered the same item), so we didn't get to test out too much variation on the menu. We ordered the Funky Chicken: one of us grilled and one fried. It was delish. We were jokingly told that their Whiskey-Sour esque drink, The Brown Thrasher single-handedly keeps them in business-- that's how delicious and popular it is. We ordered one and it did not disappoint. I'd come back here in a heartbeat, but moreso for the ambiance and service than anything else

Didn't stay. Got caught by the coffee cup police who challenged me for bringing a cup inside the restaurant- it was such a challenge after a long long day. I met with the hostess at the stand and she proceeded to seat me but then there was a woman who snuck up from behind her and interrupted our conversation. The woman who I will name as Karin approached me in a very rude manor as I was plotting my seat selection. While she may have been in her right duties to inquire about my cup, the way she did it was rude and quite nasty. She blamed her approach on previous guest who have came in sneaking alcohol out of the building or better yet, sneaking beverages inside. It was publicly humiliating. The impact affected me staying and consuming any food with that type of energy aimed towards me. No manager came to inquire about what happened. So, I took care of my peace by walking out. I won't tolerate my self care with nonsense or disrespect. There are ways to convey messages to patrons or customers in a way that is not personal.

We came here with a group of 12 to celebrate a 60th birthday, and overall the dinner experience was great. The food was excellent, the drinks were on point, and our waitress did an awesome job handling such a large party. She stayed on top of everything and made sure we were taken care of all night. After dinner, we decided to check out the speakeasy through the freezer door--Eleanor's--and unfortunately, that's where the experience took a turn. The atmosphere itself was nice--semi-dark with a cool concept--but it could definitely lean more into a darker, more immersive speakeasy vibe. The bigger issue, though, was the service. It was night and day compared to upstairs. The waitress came across as rude and unwelcoming from the start. A few of us sat down in a small corner area with an L-shaped bench and some extra chairs we had to pull over ourselves. Obviously, with 12 people, there was no way we were all fitting there, yet she insisted she wouldn't take any drink orders until everyone was seated. That made no sense, especially since there was standing room and even a bar-height table available. To make matters worse, there was zero acknowledgment of the birthday--not even a simple "happy birthday," which felt like a missed opportunity given the occasion. When we asked about Fireball shots, the response was a blunt "um, no," followed by "you can have water," as she started filling glasses. That pretty much summed up the vibe we got. Not sure if this is typical service down there or just an off night, but it was enough to make us decide we wouldn't come back to the speakeasy. Bottom line: If you're in the area, definitely check out Muss & Turner's for dinner--it's worth it. But I'd skip Eleanor's and save your time and money.

Really happy with the additions for the menu with Eleanor's. They finally listened and added some nice cocktails with tequila!! Service was excellent. There was a great female bartender when I went and she hooked up the drinks really nice. Also the fries were really good, she has an awesome recommendation for the "garlic mud" dipping sauce for the fries. This review is mostly for the speakeasy and less so Muss & Turner's. Honestly the food menu for Muss & Turners is not that creative and overpriced. Head to the back for the nice bar though, cooler ambiance!

The three of us had a fantastic dining experience on Saturday evening. We took a non traditional path to dinner by ordering all tapas and shareable accompanied by a couple of glasses of wine. Our server Micky was spot in for our needs... not too hovering but not absent. We would definitely return. We ordered adult Mac and cheese, a pickle flight, the brussel sprouts, pimento cheese spread, mussels, and split an evil chocolate chip cookie. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

This would be a good spot if you wanted a solid sandwich. They have some good options. But they have a plethora of other things to pick from as well so don't think that you're limited. Starting off, they have free parking in the shopping area that it's in so you don't have to worry about looking for parking. It could get busy though so don't make it seem like it'll be abundant parking. Because there are a lot of places here. The front part of the house is a very well-lit restaurant area. It's right in the front of the building so you can have the glass windows that are facing the parking lot. They have a little deli spot as well so it's a normal type of establishment. You go in the back, and then you have eleanors. Eleanor's is a hidden bar or a speakeasy style situation that has a dark and jewelry vibe of an old school s establishment. There's bottles of liquor everywhere, pictures all over the place, it's very woody and rustic. But it does have a really pleasant charm to it. They had the same menu in the front as they do in the back so you're not penalized if you sit one place versus another. There's music playing in the background so there will be a little bit of obvious, but don't expect any TVs or anything like that. Also the spot will get filled really quick because it's not a whole lot of space back there. So the last time I went I went at around 5:00 or 5:30 p.m.. there were maybe three people at the tables but the bar was just about full. Another half hour, and people were falling in so you got to time it right? Or you may not have a seat. There were plenty who came in and left right back out because there was no area or place to sit. Chili cheese fries - the fries were really good and very crispy to perfection. You can tell they are house made. The chili and the cheese take it to another level thought. The cheese is tangy yet subtle. The chili is very meaty and filling (it has beans in it btw). You may find chunks of meat in the chili so that's a good surprise. El's wings - the wings were very good and meaty. They had a very Mediterranean feel to them because of the seasoning. They came with tzatiki sauce so you got a bite of refreshing flavor if you decided to dip them. S/n ...they garlic mud was good ..I tried it on the fries and the wings. The burger - The burger was solid. Now it's not a flashy Burger by any means, it's going to be a plain burger with cheese on it, but if you don't mind not having a bells and whistles this burger, maybe a good contender. Contender. It's not super big but the bread is very nice and soft, and the burger patty is cooked very well. Again, it's nothing with a lot of flash and bang. Just a solid Burger. And I would get it again. Brown thrasher - this is their take on something similar to an old fashioned. It was pretty good, a little bit more on the sweeter side but it was still pretty good. If I lived on this side of town I would probably be going here often. It seems like it's a really good spot for right after work, and it does get full so just keep that in mind. But it's still a good option.

What happened to The Gobbler with fresh slice turkey breast ! I have ate this sandwich several times. I ordered it to go and mine had sliced turkey deli meat on it. I had a craving for the Thanksgiving sandwich on a bun .

Do yourself a favor and dine here as soon as possible. You genuinely cannot go wrong, everything is just sublime. We started with the pickle plate, which was ridiculous. Highly recommend starting with that. I had the Butternut Squash Farrotto with the Brown Thrasher cocktail, couldn't imagine a better pair. A taste of Autumn in every bite and sip. Others in my party had El's Wings and the Chicharrones and they were equally as amazing. Service was fantastic and the playlist they had going was just banger after banger. Will unquestionably be returning!!!

    Tiny lobster roll...

Wow, Hopefully I'm doing this right because I never take the time to leave a review... I feel kind of robbed. I was just charged $42 for a very basic lobster roll that is half or 2/3rds the size I would expect. I basically lobster and parsley on a what seemed stale mini hot dog bun. Really disappointing. After the mid Reuben a got in the past, seems like a BIG MISS. Cheers, Sean

I was told that since it was a holiday weekend they were not taking walk in's. As such, I ordered pancakes to go. I sat in my car and ate it!! The Pancake was perfect. Crispy around the edges and soft on the inside. What I really appreciated is that they were not that sweet. I really wanted to try the platter but it is only available as a dine in option. Today I wanted to have the pancakes from this spot again. I called around 10am and was able to secure a reservation for 12 pm! I was so excited. A few things to note- this place is small. The seating is very limited on the inside and then they have a few family style bench areas outside. It is my understanding that the inside is reserved for reservations and then the outside is where you get seated as a walk in guest. This is just based on my observation and I did not confirm this to be true. Service was top tier. We were greeted quickly and our server approached our table within a few minutes of being seated. Our server answered all of our questions. I ordered the platter and substituted the meat options for friend chicken. My friend also ordered the platter and substituted the meat for extra avocado . I had a matcha latte and my friend had a mocha - both with oat milk and hot drinks. The food came out in decent time and was clearly fresh. To me you can taste the quality of the ingredients . I also appreciate that the seasoning is light and not over done. The grits were creamy and gritty at the same time - some of the best grits I have eaten. Everything on my plate was amazing! I only tasted the biscuit because I did feel like the plate is carb heavy and I did not need all the carbs. My only suggestion would pertain to the matcha. I appreciate the fact that it is not pre sweetened, however it was chunky, meaning it was not whisked long enough. Based on my experience with the matcha I would not order that again. Ok, I'm in LOVE! Can I move to Atlanta?!!! I actually went next-door to the speakeasy and got a…read moredrink, ... we intended to order dinner, but the service was so unfriendly. (I'll spare you the details, I'll give them their own review.) So I searched where else I could go and this lovely place was sitting right next-door. We were greeted by Nick when we walked in, and he was so welcoming and so cordial. We chose to sit at the bar because we just love sitting at a bar and talking with the bartender. We met Brittney at the bar and she was completely delightful! (they had no idea of difference they were making in our dinner date!) FRIED GREEN TOMATOES... do not miss these. The fried chicken and collards dish... It's signature! Do yourself a favor and order that. The drinks were lovely. I can't remember what all we ordered. And then in the end, the butter cake. Absolutely don't miss this one! If you find yourself at the restaurant next-door, and you have the opportunity... Slip out and go to South city kitchen!

A very nice place for modern southern cuisine with exceptional service!…read more I went for dinner and the first impression I had was that the interior is very nice with good music, really suitable for a relaxing happy hour or an elevated casual dinner. Barton was my waiter and he was very friendly and thoughtful, paid attention to details, and checked in often, making the experience really great They give you free biscuits, cornbread, and butter which are pretty good, I devoured them. Very nice touch and made the whole experience elevated as well. For food, I ordered the blackberry nogrito, crab cakes, and shrimp and grits. The blackberry nogrito was very good but quite sweet, it came off as a blackberry mint mocktail similar to a mojito but the syrup flavor was a bit strong. The crab cake appetizer was delicious, probably my favorite thing! It was huge and the flavor was strong but not overpowering or heavy, which made for a really nice appetizer! It came with a mayo like sauce and was on a bed of corn for some flavor variety, but really enjoyed the crab cake. It also came out PIPING hot and was very enjoyable. The shrimp and grits came with a Smokey almost gumbo like sauce, kind of like a Cajun take on shrimp and grits. It was filled with shrimp that was very bouncy (not overcooked!), smoked ham/sausage, and was very generous on the sauce and grits. Was very enjoyable. Will definitely come back for the exceptional service and good food!
