Do not do business with this company. I had business insurance with them for 4 yrs. I had zero claims. When I closed the business, I cancelled the insurance. I submitted a claim for my roof after a canvassing contractor surveyed it and said it was in need of a complete replscement. I don't climb on the roof, so I took the word of the contractor and contacted State Auto. Contrsry to the contractor's review, they determined my roof needed repair instead of replacement. They sent out a 65 year old adjuster who stated he was afraid to walk the roof because he said he would fall. I live in Virginia where we are experiencing remnants of the storm/tornado Nicole, and it is now raining in my upstairs bathroom. There is going to be heavy damage from this storm as it is has been broadcasted the rain and winds will continue until at least 3:00 pm and it is only 7:20 am. I have repeatedly tried to contact the representative and only received messages that she is out of the office. This is not the quality of service you want when it comes to your home. read more

Horrible Homeowner's insurance experience. My agent was a con artist. I specifically asked if my coverage would protect against flooding from rain and got verbal assurances. I just got TOTALLY screwed over by State Auto. My windshield cracked in a Michigan ice storm. I have a 500 dollar deductible. I was told the windsheild would cost 2050 dollars to fix. (700 of that is labor). This is a highly reputable BMW dealership that has been in business for decades (Erhward BMW of Bloomfield Hills where I purchased the car.) Bottom line is: replacing an entire windshield is expensive. I was told by State Auto any my rep that I would receive a check back for the difference between what I had to pay out of pocket (2050.00 minus the 500). Instead, State Auto only sent me a check for a little over 300 and WILL NOT PAY THE DIFFERENCE OWED. DO NOT USE STATE AUTO! It's only until I looked up the reviews after do I see they are notoriously bad in SCREWING people over on insurance claims. And I am their next victim. Now I have to take time and aggravation fighting this WHILE switching Auto Insurance companies. I took time out of my day to help anyone in the future even thinking of using State Auto. Recently I instructed my Insurance Agent to contact State Auto and ensure that my 2022 policy did not renew in 2023. They had filled out the paperwork, had me sign it, and sent it in. I thought it was a done deal. Then I received a past due notice for a $15.61 fee for the policy renewing then expiring 1 day later. I contacted both companies to see what could be done as this was explicitly against my wishes, never authorized, erroneously billed, and is an error & omission on the Insurance Agent or State Auto's behalf, not mine. I contacted customer support and they indicated there was nothing to be done and insisted on payment. Liberty Mutual bought State Auto in early 2022. I was notified that my parents home coverage would not be renewed unless they replaced the roof! The roof was only 6 yrs. old & had Zero damage!!! Then said the condition of the property presented a hazard!! The home, yard & trees were Manicured!! Beautiful large showcase home with all steel Siding!! My agent contacted them, with pictures but they didn't budge!! Why would a company make up such a Lie? As bad as it can get. I don't recommend it not even for my worst enemy. All my bills are set on autopay. My credit card was replaced with a new number after a fraudulent transaction alert. So, they tried to process the payment with autopay, and it didn't go through. So, instead of calling me to help me to renew the insurance, they just canceled the insurance and issue a collections notice. This is absolutely the worst insurance company I've ever dealt with. I have multiple properties with insurances through state auto and I was trying to cancel my policies. Here is the letter that I wrote to the company in regards to my service. I'm having extreme difficulty in the cancellation of my policies. My agent is Calvin Roberts of Falcon insurance agency and I requested the cancellation of my policies in early December and then start receiving notices of expiration. I contacted Mr. Roberts and again addressed the issue with he then sent me email confirmation that he was canceling my policies as of December 5, 2023. As of today January 8, 2024 I am receiving a cancellation notices due to nonpayment of premium and have been told by your representative that none of my policies were canceled. I do not want this on my record as a non-payment I had seven policies with state auto insurance and requested cancellation of all. In trying to get assistance in this matter I am unable to get transferred to a supervisor which I have tried today and dealing with one of your representatives by the name of Brian and when I ask for his supervisor he instead continued to try and get me to deal with the agent then reluctantly sent me to the voicemail of Brian J Micheal. This certainly is not the service I expected from State Auto, a call back in order to discuss my accounts would be appreciated." Our car was a total loss and they have severely lowballed us with the claim payout. We were in a terrible total loss situation and lost our car missed out on where we were headed and have been in a lot of pain for 2 weeks. I was offered about 80% of what it would take to replace my vehicle with one of same year miles and model. They say they pay actual cash value which they decide using an insurance created valuation. "State Auto Insurance Scam" Man breaks into my home on 2/8/21 and sets a fire to keep warm in basement, arrested in jail and a police report has been provided to confirm with video, minimal damage smoke, door and window, Thank God the house did not catch fire, I'm Blessed.....except I  feel like a criminal being interrogated for some type of insurance scam, not a customer who has suffered a loss.  State Auto did not use Due Diligence investigating my claim prior to placing my account in a Right of Reservation status. I have also witnessed a breach of customer information and have serious concerns with how customers personal information and privacy are handled. I actually received by email another customers claim, name, address, phone ect. sent  form Scott Osborne Claims Adjuster Senior, a security issue to say the least. I Filed a claim on 2/10/21, received a reservation of rights letter on 2/11/21 form Scott Osborne Claims Adjuster Senior, now that was fast. I can't see what kind of investigation takes less than 24 hrs or how my insurance company on 3/3/21 day 52 has now requested I swear under oath on 5/7/21, did I not mention this happened 2/8/21, police report and video.....State Auto Insurance Companies exercising each and every right to deny a claim, am I wrong to expect more from my insurance company? read more

I've had State Auto for over a decade and I am in the process of switching. I had to file two home owner's claim due to a chimney falling into my house and a water pipe bursting within a short amount of time and it was an absolute nightmare from the beginning. To start with, the adjuster took over a week to get in contact with me. Then, when we finally set an appointment, he was over 2 hours late (and I had to go and pick up my children, who were an hour away). When he finally got to the house, his initial estimate did not even take into consideration the water that had gone into the basement. He also did not take into consideration rafters that had cracked and needed replaced, he didn't take into consideration any of the damage to personal items and because they took so long and the weather got warm, I also had to file a mold claim due to mold beginning to grow. It was an absolute NIGHTMARE. Not only did I call, but so did the contractor. We called and called and called. We bypassed the adjuster and went to his supervisor. We also caught the supervisor in a lie and called her on it and she got instantly huffy saying she didn't like her integrity questioned. We sent screenshots of the conversations to back up our accusations. It wasn't long after that they FINALLY sent a check to the contractor. The house was completed the first week of October and we are now awaiting final payment. I'm hoping that it gets here soon! The contractors definitely earned it! read more

Most detailed and truthful review for this company below if you're planning to work here: The good: 1.) Okay pay, not great by any means but it will get you by. Roughly between 38k-40k a year bi weekly pay 2.) Basically every benefit you can have. 3.) All days off are paid for, so if you call off you still get paid. If you take time off you get paid. 4.) It's unlimited PTO. (At least for now, Liberty Mutual will likely remove that) 5.) Most leads are nice, Some managers are decent 6.) Time off normally gets approved 7.) Company events are pretty good 8.) M-F job hours range between 7am-7pm The bad: 1.) Advancement is nearly impossible unless you brown nose. Or if you eat sleep breathe work. 2.) They can be manipulative with their words. This one is hard to explain but I can guarantee many State Auto employees can understand what I mean. 3.) The entire Underwriting team are a bunch of idiots. I genuinely think we get our underwriting team members from a Cracker Jack box. 4.) FMLA is a joke to State Auto. 5.) HR is legitimately the worst HR I've ever dealt with. I worked in retail and fast food and they both had better HR. 6.) Sadly State Auto is dying off because of the terrible policies they have and the system they refuse to fix. Also their "Legacy" system is beyond terrible. 7.) Unfortunately it seems like State Auto is not trying to better their core system. The seem to be just changing the appearance of their systems. However never fixing the coding to the systems. So quoting and policy changes break a lot. Their older system "Legacy" basically is more useless than a grandma driving a nascar to pick up groceries. 8.) Training is about 2-6 hours to teach you an entire skill if you're lucky they will give you 2-5 days before they put you on the phones by yourself. Then if you ask a lot of questions they will be upset and tell you "it's in the google drive training". (The good drive is a joke) 9.) Lastly you're a number and at the end of the day they do not care about you nor your family. Maybe your manager does but outside of that the VP , Customer Service VP and HR do not care about you at all. They don't care about your life difficulties. If you're having a mental break down they will claim they care about it. However if you call off more than 3 times in 5 months, they call it "excessive" even if you had to go to a funeral or the hospital it doesn't matter. So overall it's okay but at the end of the day you could get paid the same or more for doing significantly less and have way less stress. read more

They force the mechanics to buy used parts from many sources and then they complain that the repairs take too long. I have to work with them becuase I was hit by one of their insured and they don't return phone calls.... they don't have fair claims ... my car was wrecked over two week ago and I haven't been able to get it in to the auto body becuase I had to wait for the holidays ... now I have to wait for the auto body shop to get my parts in before I can even leave my vehicle ... they won't give me a rental becuase my van is still drive able ... I have 4 young kids ... we didn't go anywhere for the holidays becuase of the condition of our vehicle ... the door leaks but that's not reason to put me in a rental ... if my vehicle repairs take longer then 10 days they expect me to pay the rental or the body shop if the have any delays .
