They always say you do one good job they tell two people, you do a bad job they tell everybody. I would never take a vehicle to State Avenue for repairs after the botched head replacement job they did on my fathers (now mine) Chevrolet pickup. Stuff happens and you can only hope that the shop will step up and take care of it. Not this shop, the owner refused to accept any liability, blaming the tech he hired and the shop that supplied the replacement heads. After an 18 month battle with him and his insurance company we finally had to file a claim in the courts to get partially reimbursed for the re repairs. I cannot stress enough how important it is to find another shop to do business with. You may get lucky and they won't damage your vehicle working on it, but is it worth the risk? I feel that this review need not be forgotten. I don't care how many years it has been. Hence the repost. As I said do one bad job they tell everybody. read more

Id like to thank the staff here , I took my 02 civic to here because it was throwing some check engine codes. I dropped it off first thing in the morning got a call around noon saying it was all fixed I needed a thermostat and a catalytic converter it was very reasonably priced . The staff is so friendly and helpful I would recommend this shop to anyone. read more

The BEST Auto mechanic around! I needed some regular maintenance performed on my car and called around to a few places to get quotes. State Ave Auto gave me the lowest quote of anyone I called. I did a little research online and they were indeed well below the average price for auto service in the region. I took my car in a couple days later and they completed all of the work the same day at exactly the price they quoted. When I got home after picking up my car I couldn't shift it into park. I called them back (this is now 10 minutes before closing) and they said to bring it back and they would look at it. They checked it out and it turned out to be sticky brake light switch (completely unrelated to their repairs). The did a quick fix on the switch told me they could get a new switch and replace it the next morning. Even better, the next morning I brought my car in, they picked up a new switch from a local auto parts store, and replaced it in about 20 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised when they gave me the bill. All they charged was the cost of the switch. Just to reiterate, they checked out my car after hours, performed a quick fix, and replaced my brake light switch for FREE! Needless to say I was impressed. My girlfriend had taken her car to a different mechanic about a week earlier to have her car check out (funny enough, she also had a sticky brake light switch too). The other place charged her about $200 replace the switch and $100 for diagnostics. The other place also informed her of some maintenance she needed done (some real, some BS) and gave her a quote. About a week later, she took her car to State Ave Auto where they performed the work quickly, at a lower price than the other place's quote, and didn't try to push stuff that didn't need to be done. To summarize, I would recommend State Ave Auto to anyone and everyone. They have the lowest prices, the best service, and they do great work as far as I can tell! Broke but happy. Im not sure if on a pinched penny, that this would be a routine stop, but as i pulled in with an almost emergency situation, this was the place to be. My water pump was making a lot of racket and about to blow. The bays were stacked 2 cars deep and Jeff the owner said it would be the next day. After realizing my desperation and also a chance to make "good coin" he had his guys take care of me right away. I paid $237 for one shop hour of labor, $30 for 2 gallons of diluted coolant to replace what was drained and $47 for a new belt (neccesary?) that wasnt discussed, in addition to the needed normal priced water pump. Dale had it installed like a pro in about an hour. Great service! Kinda steep on the total of $413, but i guess thats what head of the line costs. Thanks Guys. read more

They make routine maintenance easy with a morning drop off and afternoon pickup, and when the work has been more complicated, phone calls with updates and expected completion times are not unusual. He squeezed me in with very little notice, gave me a thorough and honest appraisal of the car, and was very accommodating about a delayed pickup.
