Hidden behind the Newgate Mall, this small liquor store stays open til 10PM to provide Ogden with all the basic booze needs. The selection is pretty limited here compared to other stores, but they have all the basics and there is still plenty to choose from. I walked out of here once to find my car with white paint down the front. Yep, somebody scraped up against me and drove off. Thank you to the fine drunken folks of Ogden. Regardless, I still find myself here often to grab a bottle of Jim, a few "real" beers, or a decent bottle of wine. They're always pretty fast to get you checked out and on your way. No real complaints. No real compliments. Just a small liquor store doing its job in a mediocre fashion. If you're looking for a 'bargain' sometimes they sell discontinued items near the front of the store on the south side. Sometimes it's a good deal. Sometimes it's just advertisement. They have better hours than the state liquor store on Patterson being open until 10 PM and better parking but the selection isn't as great especially for the beer. Like other liquor stores, a lot of the beer is stale as it is unrefrigerated and sits in warehouses for months before ending up on the shelf. Since they are a state ran agency and it's illegal to retail liquor outside DABC (or the new name DABS?), it isn't like another store can open nearby and compete against them for business. Like other state liquor stores, the selection isn't consistent and sometimes you need to drive to another city to buy at another state liquor store since your local store doesn't stock what you wish to buy. It's more convenient than a some of the other state liquor stores and has better hours than some but the selection isn't that great. The entire state liquor system is ran by people who don't drink and have no experience retailing liquor. If you specially order liquor, you may not be notified when it arrives and will find out later that since you never showed up to pick up your order, they sold it to someone else. read more

This review goes to the guy with the red beard, whom literally looks just as old as me. I don't understand what mighty power you think you possess working at the state liquor store. Just because this is a shitty dry state doesn't mean you are almighty liquor man. Whether you want to believe a year of birth or not, it's on my valid, non-expired ID. At first, I thought you were just being nice but I quickly realized you were just being an asshole and tried to embarrass me in front of people in line. I hope you don't treat all of your younger looking of-age customers like you are doing them a favor by selling them alcohol. I'll just stick to my normal store in Roy since they don't treat their customers this way. read more

Horrible place they are races they didn't accept my ID!! I spoke to some people who ask what card do they accept I show them my cards they told them I guess they don't accept this and they are oh okay just making sure. Next thing you know they try to pay there drinks they got told they can't sell it to them cause we came together when we didn't they just ask a question. read more

Damn it's been about two years since the last Yelp review so I'll update. Apparently the jerk with the red beard is no longer a part of the experience cuz I've never seen him and I work right down the street so suffice it to say I'm there somewhat frequently. I've received nothing but courteous and friendly service here. They even have the 100 proof new Amsterdam vodka and the big bottle of everclear which not all locations carry so they score brownie points for that as well. Yelp reviews of the state liquor stores seem kind of pointless, given that in Utah they are the only game in town.. but what the heck, I'll write. The selection in this store is not that great and the prices are high. The staff are pretty nice, but they seem a little constrained on resources. I was pleasantly surprised that they had Woodford Reserve double oaked bourbon, and at a price that is only a bit higher then what we pay in California. On the other hand, I was also looking for Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc which is one of the most popular sauv blancs on the market, and they did not carry it, despite the fact that they had a ton of other choices, but KC is the gold standard and isn't even that expensive. read more
