We had turkey enchiladas which were really tasty and HOT (my pet peeve) and the brisket burger, which was really good other than the brisket wasn't as flavorful as we expected. We liked the restaurant design better before they remodeled, but that's personal preference. It seemed cozier before. They have an outdoor seating area which is pretty much shaded in the evening. Tried roosters on a coworkers recommendation. This spot did not match what was recommended. I got the nasty fries and three tacos. (Calamari, shrimp, and salmon). Let's start with the good. Calamari was decent with a good texture, and the Gorgonzola sauce was great. Everything else was mid at best. Shrimp was tough. Salmon was dry and the nasty sauce was flavorless. (The nasty sauce was really hyped up and it was not good). The server was fine but not super helpful and was not incredibly friendly. Ive been here 3 times now when I visit from Arizona so its kind of become my go to when I come to the salt lake area. Great tap list with a helpful staff. I had the tacos this time which went well with their Mexican lager and their pilsner. Another thing is great is you can get beer to go here which I guess isn't very common in Utah. And if you're ok with poor service, but willing to take it for average food and a generic atmosphere, you might have a better experience than we did. Also, probably not a great idea to eat here if you aren't planning on ordering a lot of specialty drinks, microbrews and/or appetizers. Oh, and make sure to keep your group on the smaller side -- they don't like large groups. We unfortunately didn't know about all of their inhouse rules before eating here. I've been to Roosters a few times, and I have to say--it's really stepping up its game. My lunch today was excellent from start to finish. The salad tasted freshly made, with crisp greens and perfectly ripe avocado (no brown edges--always a win!). The fish was tender and cooked just right, light but flavorful. Service was just as impressive--attentive without hovering. Everyone seemed genuinely kind and happy to be there, which makes the whole experience even better. Stopped in for dinner Monday night. It was slow night so there was plenty of seating available. We were promptly seated given time to choose our food. I choose the Margarita Pizza and I ordered a side of Brisket Burnt Ends. The brisket was awesome. It had a nice Smokey flavor and was tender. The pizza had great flavors but unfortunately, it was undercooked. The middle of the pie was not cooked enough at all. The waitress was very kind and patient and the atmosphere was pleasant. My new favorite place! Yesterday was my second time at roosters and the experience got better! First time I sat at the bar it was a quick lunch. Food was delicious and I knew I had to come back with my family! EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING! Service, food and atmosphere! I cant remember my waitress name I think it was Mary, she was awsome!!! Strapped at The Rooster for a pizza and a beer. Sat at the bar as it was very busy at Happy Hour. The server was great! She described my beer and it was more than I expected. And you're probably asking yourself why I got pizza in Utah, but I must say that the cheese was the main delicious ingredient. It's called beehive cheese, made in Utah and so delicious. The crust was just right, so I'll say the personal pie is a solid 8 of 10 for my taste. This place is a must if you're in the area! I will be back! read more

Initially came in because of how close it was to our hotel. Upon arrival, we were greeted and sat right away. They had a lush variety of beers in which a good amount were on tap. I ordered the Mac and cheese with bacon and it was phenomenal. The staff is very helpful and simply unforgettable. Lots a big tv's to catch up the score and easily accessible bathrooms. I used to go to the Ogden location and haven't been to the Layton spot for quite some time. A group of friends (6) and I had reservations at 7 and they got us right in. Our server was awesome, a cute Japanese lady, who had a strong accent, wrote down the specials and would show us them on paper as she described them. She was so fun with a great attitude, she would kind of sing back our orders as we gave them to her. I commented on how much I liked this and so she sang just about everything after that. She was great, wish I'd caught her name. We ordered three appetizers to start and they were all very good. The deep fried cheese curds with Louisiana and a mildly spicy fry sauce was excellent. Nachos with chili verde on top was very good and one of their specials, garlic, parmesan, wings, that were also very good. For entrees I ordered the Pesto penne pasta and added bacon and chicken. It was really quite good but may have been a little bland without the bacon, so I'm glad I added it. My wife ordered the raviolis and thought it was great. She thought hers was better than mine, and I thought mine was better than hers. This is a good thing as we were both satisfied and pleased with our orders. It's just ok for me. We go here when we can't think of anywhere else to go (not a ton of choices in Layton). I ordered the Santa Fe Salad with chicken, and I have to say I expect more from an almost $17 salad. The chicken was rubbery and there was way too many green chiles on it. Would benefit from using a different type of lettuce instead of spring mix as well. Something else that irritates me is that on the occasion that I've ordered a sandwich, the menu says nothing about them having mayonnaise on them but they come full of mayonnaise. This was our first time at Roosters and I'd definitely recommend it! We went as a family for dinner, but it would be a fun spot for happy hour or lunch as well. It took about 10 minutes to get a table but once we were seated our server Noroki was so attentive!! She did an amazing job. I had prepared a 2 star review after sitting at the bar. The hostesses are surly, snotty, and exhibited an air of disdain at patrons as they walked in. Not just our group, but most folks. One girl there (she was wearing velcro close shoes), was dressed like she just got out of bed, shoe closures flopping as she walked, hair an utter mess, and a face like "do I look like I give a sh**? I'd rather be at the dentist." Our group of six was close to walking out, just based on the vibe of the front of house staff. Bar staff were fine. Then, we were seated and our waiter/server (Josh) came up. He was full of energy, life, vibe, and happy. He made jokes with us, we exchanged friendly insults about his tattoos (and ours) and he gave us some good rundowns on what Roosters does well. All in all, he was a well-above average server, and we had some fun laughs. The best laugh came at the end when we asked him to take a couple photos of our group from the four corners of the country. He acted like he screwed ups the photos. Then we looked at them after we left. He took a fun selfie. What a great way to round out our night at Roosters. The owners should terminate every one of the hostesses at the front stand, and hire people with personality who absolutely want to be there, and Josh should be the head of all servers. If you're looking for beer, this is the local spot. Anything else is better in the food court across the street. Pizza served on shallow bowls (as are sandwiches). Every protein seems to have been chosen carefully from the Sysco catalog - pre-shaped and -seasoned. Staff yells "corner" every 14 seconds because the mirror is in the wrong place (move it 2 feet out so it actually reflects the approach). Management stacked all of the highchairs in the kitchen entrance, narrowing the hall by half of its width. Saran-wrapped chocolate chip cookies for sale at the host stand. Ketchup bottles that hiss at you when you open them. Come for the beer. read more

They were able to split the salad in half for us, which I appreciated. The plating was beautiful for this salad & honestly it was such a simple salad but so dang good! I haven't had a salad this good in a very long time. I loved the pears mixed with the salad & the balsamic dressing. Best salad! I figured the margarita pizza would be a typical margarita pizza but I was wrong! It had pinenuts on it which gave it a unique look & taste to it. I haven't had pinenuts much but it was delicious with these on it. Great size to share for two of us. We wanted to get dessert but we were stuffed. Service wasn't the greatest. A group of us ate here on a Wednesday night for my husband's "going away" team dinner. We waited just over and hour for a table to accommodate us but once we were seated, they took care of us. My husband and I ordered the salmon sandwich with a bowl and zucchini curry soup (highly recommend the sandwich, but the soup wasn't flavorful and just tasted like zucchini minus curry) and the Hawaiian pizza (hot and fresh and spicy). It is licensed as a restaurant though so you can only order one drink at a time (my date was trying to get both our drinks before I was there) and you have to get food so just be aware of that. I was so hungry... my boyfriend and I went to the nearest restaurant. It was "Roosters" and my first time eating there. I can't begin to tell you how gross it was. I got the loaded Nachos and mushrooms soup. Maybe, I made the wrong food choice but, the meat was over cooked and had more fat than meat. The cheese was a creamy nastiness sauce instead of cheese. When I finally gave up on the meal. I had a pile of chewed up fat on my plate and the soup was disgusting. I told the waitress and she asked, if my boyfriend tried it. I said "no". It doesn't matter if he did try it, because he just got out of the dentist and couldn't really taste anyway. This was our fort time since renovations. We thought the place looked great. We were a party of 8 including two kids. While I had high hope this fell short. Our waitress hardly said any words and never refilled our drinks. While one member of our party said their Cajun sandwich got better with the changes the fish and chips unfortunately went the opposite direction. I am disappointed as this was my go to prior. My fish was soggy and I received three smaller pieces which did not feel as though it met the almost $19 price point. Further, it was extremely disappointing to hear that a cheese burger off the children's menu was $10. While I had sticker shock we still ordered it as that is what my 3 year old loves. While the burger was a good size I would definitely prefer a kids sized burger at a kids sized price as the kids burger was the same size as my husbands.
