The ambiance was casual and comfortable with lots of fun character (awesome hang out spot, also has pool table, a few classic arcade games and shuffleboard). This has climbed to the top of my list of favorite bars in Boston!! Catch me coming here...like a lot. I came here for the first time on Saturday and holy moly I loved every minute. They've got a whole calendar of events ranging from people playing records during the week, vinyl dance night on Saturdays, and live music on certain days too. From the second we walked in I knew this was gonna be my fav spot. We walked in to a disco song playing, a disco ball hanging from the ceiling, strobe lights, disco music and beats all night long, vinyls spinning, life is good. A surprisingly affordable brunch option in Kendall Square with quick service and relaxed ambiance. We came here as walk-ins at 12pm on a Saturday and were promptly seated outside. For food, we got: - Chicken torta: this was delicious. The chicken was tender and juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The sauces and toppings worked together perfectly to make each bite full of great flavors and textures. - Eggs, home fries, and beans plate: this was also delicious and also a medley of wonderful textures and flavors. The homefries were crispy, the beans were cooked to a thick sauce-like consistency, the eggs were fluffy and soft, and the tortillas were firm on the outside, yet still soft and chewy. This dish came with salsa and mayo on the side, as well as ketchup and hot sauce that we asked for. Put together in the tortillas, the flavors and textures were perfect. I only wish the portion sizes were more proportional. The portion of egg was very small, while the portions of homefries, beans, and mayo were very large. We ended up getting another side of eggs to have more equal bites in each tortilla, but I would have been fine paying a higher price for more eggs to begin with. Overall, the food here was delicious and great value for the price. They include a 20% fair wages fee on the bill already, so no tipping is necessary. This is a fun place to go on a Saturday night! Especially when they have the Soulelujah dance party with disco music - really great music and cool fun vibes on the dance floor! We initially got a table outside for dinner which was awesome because it was such a nice pleasant summer night. Plus inside and the bar area were packed. The shishito peppers starter was nice although I'm not sure about the pairing with the tangy salsa verde - ok in small amounts. I ordered the bluefish entree and the hubs ordered the fried chicken. They mistakenly brought out 2 bluefish dishes, but promptly corrected it and gave the hubs a bag of mesquite chips to eat while waiting for his dish. We asked if we could take home the extra dish and they complied readily, put it in a take out bag and brought it for us. Fish was very tender, flaky and paired well with the corn succotash, I left the bacon aside tho lol. Hubs liked his fried chicken - nice sweet and little spicy, very hot and super greasy but that comes with the territory. The watermelon quinoa salad was super fresh and perfect for a warm summer evening. Service was very friendly, our waiter was very pleasant and other staff were helpful too. Came here with my partner on a Friday night and my partner told the kind man at the front we were a party of 6 with 4 friends on the way and that the 2 of us would order food while the other 4 would just be ordering drinks. We were seated quickly which I appreciate, and after a moment the waitress came to take our order. My partner asked what was on draft & she promptly acted as if he hadn't spoken. Maybe she misheard - it's a busy night right? She came back a few minutes later and we ordered a single beer and a burger. She then told us drinks had to be placed first and drinks alone - acting as if we were from an alien planet for trying both. No problem - so we put in what we could. She returned several minutes later where I asked for my burger - she then acted as if I hadn't mentioned the burger before, directly asked me if I had spoken to a separate server, complete with an eye roll. While fiddling with my silverware, I unfortunately also found a dead bug wrapped in with it. She then left to talk to the nice gentleman by the door, and both came over asking to move us in order to seat a larger party that was to have dinner, likely since our additional 4 had not yet arrived, despite us explaining the situation at the door beforehand. They weren't clear, but the move also seemed based on us not having food, despite us also ordering the burger (it hadn't come yet, due to the delays). I genuinely didn't mind the request to try to make all parties happy, but it wasn't until after I initially agreed, that I saw various college students around us, only drinks in sight while they played card games & relaxed. Happy for the students - but why ask us two specifically to move if others also didn't have food and seemed to have already completed most of their night while we had just arrived? I hope this server just had a bad night, but based on several other reviews, it looks like a repeat problem which points to a larger managerial/establishment issue. I hope it had nothing to do with us being a gay couple holding hands, and hope it had nothing to do with our skin darker than the other clientele, but this overt, continuously strange treatment deeply disturbed my partner and then myself. Perhaps some subconscious bias training would be helpful. Went for a birthday dinner and drinks a few weeks ago. The food menu was interesting, I think there's some interesting stuff but not for everyone. I got the cheeseburger which was good and the fries were really tasty. My friend got the mac and cheese which looked awesome. Also had an espresso martini which was nice and dark, not the creamy kind which some prefer. When drinking at the bar they didn't really have menus around so it was sometimes hard to know what to order. They don't have a lot of the standard beers and seltzers which can be a bit of a bummer if you don't want to drink cocktails or need an easy choice. After having another restaurant cancel my delivery order at the last minute, I was famished and called in an order at to State Park since they were still open. Their menu is a bit varied in a way that seems inconsistent with the more divey vibe inside, but it works. The Katsu chicken burger was delicious, with crispy skin and honestly, it was not terribly unlike what I've had in Japan. The fries were thin but crispy and really good. Altogether, a super enjoyable and quick mean. I look forward to returning to State Park, next time probably to dine in! read more

State Park is a hidden gem in Cambridge! It has that true local neighborhood feel. It can get very busy on the weekends. It is a very laid back atmosphere. They have a pool table, shuffleboard, pinball machines and even a photo booth. Their fried chicken is hands down some of the best I've had in Boston. The chicken is cooked to perfection. So crunchy on the outside and absolutely tender and juicy on the inside. The outer coating has a honey Tabasco glaze that just adds just the right amount of spice that sets it apart from your everyday friend chicken. It comes will collard greens which any southern chef would be proud of. The chicken katsu sandwich is another must try! Again, the chicken is cooked to perfection. They bread is so soft and perfect for the sandwich. One night as a special they had truffled fries and were truly to die for. I wish they would add them to their daily menu! :( As far as their drinks go they are all outstanding. My go to is the Vibes & Stuff, if you are into rum. It's a must try. They have a very unique drink called the state park cocktail which is miler high life with rye whiskey and amaro that is served in the high life bottle. It sounds a little strange but you absolutely have to give it a try! This seemingly simple combination is a winner. I was very apprehensive at first but I order it every time I come in! Great service at the outside tables early in the evening after a movie. Everything was great, with the tempura onions and cherry pies as highlights: Tempura fried spring onions. I'd just had onion rings at lunch and yet this didn't feel repetitive because it's on a whole nother level. Light, crispy, punched up a notch with the onion powder. Great with the sauce that comes with it (remoulade? I forget the menu description) but even better with a side of green goddess. I used it for the fries that came with my sandwich, too. Fried cherry hand pies: my wife isn't a huge pie fan because she doesn't like crust, and yet she loved these as much as I did - they're that good. Pistachio ice cream is the perfect thing to serve with them. Everything else was 4/5 - great with minor quibbles, like the Alabama white sauce (which I'm familiar with and have had at its birthplace) on the soft shell crab sandwich not seeming very flavorful, or the bushwacker melting quickly (like I said, minor: we were outside in June, it happens. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist inside, so I was pretty happy with the texture of it. The sandwich was just okay. It didn't offer much but took away flavor from the chicken, in my opinion. It doesn't look outwardly appetizing, which could be a result of delivery. I popped in to grab some food to go, with my nine month old in tow. The host saw me coming before I saw him and had the door open for me when I got to it - a small but rare touch of service. I stood as out of the way as I could be - the bar is not cramped, but it was pretty packed, and my stroller wasn't small - and the host sent over a waitress - Amanda. She was super sweet and quickly charmed my son, who grabbed her finger and didn't want to let go. The wait for my food was quite reasonable, especially considering how busy it was, and Amanda checked on me a couple of times and brought me water. During my wait, I watched two strangers play a game of pool, and it seems perfectly in character for the place. It's not the bar where everyone knows your name, but hang around for a bit and you might learn everyone else's. A few other staff members came and cooed at my kid, and it really drove home how friendly the place is. I'll have to come and sit down sometime to fully soak in the energy. Now for the food: wow. I got the Nashville hot chicken, which comes with kale. I normally dislike kale, but theirs is cooked properly and seasoned well - I'd have no problem eating it again. The chicken was nice and moist, and there was plenty of it. It was properly spicy, burning at the lips, but still had a wonderful mix of other seasonings shining through. I was impressed with how well it travelled - I wasn't able to eat it until nearly an hour after I got it, and had to keep it warm in a hotel microwave! Now, the real star of the show for me was dessert! The Sour Cherry Hand Pies. Holy shit! (Am I allowed to swear on Yelp?) Even after sitting for an hour, the crust was beautifully flaky, the filling was tart and plentiful, and the ice cream, with the crunch of the pistachios, was the perfect complement. I'm a dessert fiend, and this was easily the best thing I've put in my mouth in recent memory! An absolute must get if you're dining here!
