Have had a sandwich here once. It was good but think they are a little pricey! They do a good business so this is just my opinion.

Their sandwiches are good and decently priced. The sandwiches comes with a pickle and a side. I usually get potato salad with my tuna melt. Their pastrami/reuben sandwiches are also good! They have stamps where u get free sandwich after buying 10 sandwiches. read more

Excellent! Numerous sandwich options - definitely try their special sandwich creations - the raspberry chipotle sauce that they use is sweet with a bit of heat! I went with the Cuban - they definitely have it perfected - Cuban bread, pulled pork, ham, cheese, and pickles! For side choices you can have pasta salad, mac salad, coleslaw, 3 bean, chips. The salad sides are fairly small (three bites), Service is friendly and quick! We had our food to our table in less than 10 minutes! read more

This cute little sand which shop can be stumbled upon in a really nice historic building! The town is quiet and everything is so clean! Everyone is so nice as well! The sandwiches are really yummy, especially the bread. The cooks were nice enough to split a sandwich onto 2 trays for me and my mom! The thousand island sauce was a little too saucy for me, but overall added a lot of flavor with good crunch of veggies! Was looking forward to eating potato salad and was not disappointed. In the spirit of the old school deli, where they slice everything in front of you, have some incredible bread options and make their own potato and pasta salads, you have the state street deli! We'd heard good things about this place and we were very impressed with what we found. You're greeted with a counter full of meat and smiles when you enter and shortly thereafter the magic begins. No less than a dozen sandwich choices are at your disposal. We had the Randolph and the Michigan Ave - both of which were unreal good. The Randolph came with some incredible Rye bread and a chipotle mayo that was spicy, but gave the sandwich some incredible flavor. The Michigan was equally delicious, with peppered sourdough and just the right amount of kick from a raspberry chipotle mayo. If you were able to take a bite of an Italian opera song, it may taste like these sandwiches! Bold, flavorful, meaty, yet refined. Everything is grilled to perfection and prepped to perfection! I'll be back to try the Matzo ball soup and the corned beef on rye - Especially as tomorrow is St. Paddy's day! Highly recommend their Michigan Avenue. One of the best hot sandwiches in town. The food is absolutely top notch and worth the visit.

Delicious and fast service. Good selection, except that everything is crazy unhealthy. I think they grill the bread in butter because it was absolutely amazing. However everything was super salty, I drank about 9 gallons of water when I got home because the drink machine was out of order. Atmosphere is fine, but the whole place was filled with smoke and smelled like something was burning in the oven. They must have disabled their fire alarms long ago. I changed my clothes as soon as I got home because they smelled like the restaurant. Smoky grease. Also, prices? It was $24 for two sandwiches and a kids meal. No drinks. Not worth it! read more

Sooooooo.... I was expecting and hoping for a really yummy corned beef on rye deli sandwich. You know the ones you see on the food channel...where they pile the beef on so high, it looks like there's no way you could possibly fit the thing in your mouth kind of sandwich. Well..this place wasn't it. Sure..it was an "OK" deli sandwich. The corned beef tasted great. It was moist and tender....just not enough of it. The rye bread tasted fresh. At least it was soft and not dry. But, that was it. Just 2 pieces of bead and some meat. No mustard...no mayo..no nothing. I was also given a super small pasta side dish to accommodate my deli sandwich. I'd say they give you about a tablespoon worth of pasta. Whoooo hooooo. No need to take home any leftovers. The noodles needed to be cooked a bit longer. A bit chewy for my liking. Ohhhh yeah..and I got a half of pickle too. I wanted some matza ball soup, but the lady explained to me that they haven't had any since last summer. It was considered a seasonal soup. I'd say it's more like a once a year soup? Come on...it's been since last summer since they had any? Wow. No soup for me. $7.99 plus tax for my deli sandwich, a half a pickle and a tablespoon of salad. Ehhh...not woth it. read more

I got the Ruben sandwich and a pasta side. On the plus side they piled the cornbeef up high which is what I like in a sandwich but that is about all I can say on the plus side for this place. I am not sure if it was the French dressing but the sandwich was too sweet for my liking, I needed to add salt just to eat it. The VERY small helping of pasta salad was also loaded down with sugar or something that made it way too sweet for me not even salt & pepper could let me eat that side dish. I was disappointed, I was hoping the nice atmosphere was accompanied with good food but not this time. If I ever came back it would be to try the roast beef. read more

I would consider eating here every day of my life if feasible. I've tried quite a bit on the menu but I am always drawn back to The Michigan. It has a wonderful flavor with the slightest kick at the end; excellent. Always fast and courteous service. You order at the register and they will bring your food out when ready. It does get busy at lunch so I recommend coming earlier or later rather than 12 noon. The owners and staff are wonderful. Always kind and courteous, and the establishment is always kept very clean. If I have one grievance it would be the small side that comes with the sandwich; and I only say that because it is so good that I want more! The potato salad...out of this world. Go. Now. If there were a list of top 5 places you need to try in mason city, this would be #2 behind northwestern steak house. State street deli has the best sandwiches in north iowa. The family who owns it is from Chicago and did a good job bringing some Chicago culture to mason city. Whenever I come home to visit I ALWAYS come here. So my wife went to this place to pick up food during lunch time, which is practically the only time they are operating. It was crowded. She ordered and tried to pay. Their chip reader was acting up. They did not let her swipe her card as they said it would not process. The cashier proceeded to tell her that her card was broken, which is puzzling because she just successfully used it at a grocery store prior to arrival at this cafe. We got the feeling that their staff was overwhelmed and impulsively blamed her for her card being broken. Disappointing service to say the least. We would have been willing to go back with cash but they treated her insultingly. We did not feel wanted bc of their issue. This is 2020, and chip readers should be working. They could have at least had us try swiping the card. Thus, we will not be coming back to this establishment. read more

I was searching yelp for a good place for lunch when I came across this gem. State Street Deli is owned by a woman from Chicago. Being from Chicago myself, I had high expectations. Also being a frequent visitor of Chicago Jewish delis, I was excited to try the corned beef on rye and matzoball soup. Unfortunately they don't have matzoball soup at the moment but the sandwich was pretty darn good. I am a big sandwich lover, especially pastrami corn beef ones. It's kinda unfair to compare this small sandwich shop to Carnegie Deli or the Katz(which is my favorite) but the sandwich really reminds me of those big names.
