It was a hot & sultry night at the tail end of the heatwave, but we made it for the game with the Batavia Muck Dogs (WTH is that??). The Richmond County stadium is super easy to get to because it's right next to the SI Ferry terminal with a good view of NY harbor and is a standard minor league park similar to the LI Ducks, Brooklyn Cyclones or Newark Bears. I always enjoy coming here. Courtesy of company sponsored tickets, we sat on the 3rd base line almost even with the bag and we had a great view. Plus the seats came with All-You-Can-Eat & Drink wristbands! We chowed down on cheeseburgers, hot dogs & chicken sandwiches, along with chips, soda & above all else, WATER! It was HOT! After the sun went down, it was a little more tolerable, and we didn't have to douse ourselves. We got there after the game started so we missed out on the free bobblehead giveaway, darn! And this year they didn't limit you to one food item at time, so we loaded up before we went to our seats. The game was none too exciting being an A club and most players were batting less than .200, but the inter-inning activities were fun, with races and free t-shirts. We came here yesterday to explore the "4th Annual Brewfest and Wing showcase." It turned out to be a beautiful day to sip on 12 different exotic beer of our choice and wings as well. There were over one thousand people at the event. They had a band as well as a great selection of music. We had a nice view of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty as well as meeting some nice people. The ball park is walking distance from the ferry. Yes, the ferry is free, well maintain, about 30 minutes ride from NYC, and you can enjoy sight seeing especially the statute of liberty. read more

Here are the things I love: * Very generous group packages - with just 10 people, you can get your name on the scoreboard. Vince was a pleasure to deal with. * Great location, right by the ferry and rail in the "downtown" of the island. * The walls behind home place - foul balls bounce off them and ricochet back into the stands, meaning you can catch a foul ball from almost any seat in the park. * The view of downtown NYC just beyond center field. Here is why I deducted a star: * Food. It's tragically bad. Nothing more than hot dogs, hamburgers, etc., all limp and overdone. I've been to enough minor league ballparks that I can assert it doesn't matter, A, AA, or AAA, you have an opportunity to provide quality food. First time visiting the stadium and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a smaller stadium but nice. The food was decently priced when you compare the prices with other ball parks. My boyfriend and I sat in section 16, row G, seats 23 and 24, and the sun was in our face the first hour or so of the game. I suggest wearing a pair of sunglasses or at least bringing a hat with you. If you're coming from the City taking the Staten Island Ferry over is a great way to get to the park, literally just steps away. Plus, you can enjoy a cold one while you take in the views. read more

Last night was my first trip to this wonderful little ballpark as we had group tickets put together by Yelper Monique R. Some observations - - Pretty much right next to Staten Island Ferry terminal. Super easy trip. - Group tickets of 10 or more people cost only $20 each which included a great seat, unlimited food and soft drinks, a hat, and fireworks show after the game. Really cheap night out. - The ballpark is set right on the water offering a terrific setting. - The ballpark is small with only around 7,000 seats so every seat offers a good view. - The ballpark is pretty new and modern. Plus, prices on everything are way cheaper than at the major league parks. - Since this is really a place for families to take their kids there seems to be a lot of cheesy fun things going on. Mascots in outfits along with a few cheer people entertain the crowd between innings with contests, sing alongs, t-shirt giveaways, etc. - Yes, it is the minor leagues. You won't see a lot of great talent or exciting action, but it is a fun thing to do on a nice night out. And cheap! - Really good fireworks show after the game, that was actually more exciting than the game itself. It was a fun night and one of those "off-beat" kind of things to do out of the ordinary. Plus, you won't dump a boatload of cash as is normal procedure for a night out in the city. The only reason I have to take off a star is that the food we received with the unlimited food tickets were pretty bad. The burgers were made with some sort of "mystery meat", the chicken sandwiches hardly had any chicken in them, and they would only let you take one thing at a time when on line. There are no bad seats, so save yourself the aggravation and skip the all-you-can-eat nonsense and get better food for less elsewhere before arriving (which we did*). Dropped by with Goldstar goldstar.com/signup?p=F1... tickets and *no intention of using the AYCE portion of the $24 ticket (we did go to the separate table to redeem the hats) because we'd eaten throughout SI before arriving, but they had waters (which they took the caps off of) and chips (which they opened) so we stood on line to deal with the nasty staff (to their credit, the AYCE patrons were almost all equally nasty). There's a big sign 'no one is to take food out of the building, anyone caught will be written up', and they also didn't have the soda portion ready until about an hour into the game on a weekend, but made no apologies. They also cleverly put the AYCE section at the opposite end of the ballpark, and only serve from one side of the two-sided table, then close an hour before the game ends read more

Experience a surprise venue watching the S.I. Yankees at Richmond County Bank Ballpark, which overlooks downtown Manhattan and the harbor. Its family friendly, inviting, and found parking next to the stadium at $6 for the evening. I went back on a Saturday night, middle of August with family and we enjoyed a terrific night of the all-you-can-eat package which is 90 minutes (30 minutes before the game through 8PM - its enough time to stuff yourself on burgers, pulled pork, and hot dogs). The S.I. Yankees is great watching baseball upclose, roomy seats with the main attraction the stadium and their amiable staff who were very helpful in making the experience very personalized. Yes, the 1A Yankees won that night, the Yankees mascot Scooter was all over the place, and post game was fireworks and kids able to run around the bases. They have in-between innings games and interacting with the fans. Reiterating - this is family friendly and inviting, I would almost rather come here to watch baseball and hear the sounds and smells of what baseball was like in a by-gone era. I would recommend this surprise gem over and over again as the overall experience for a youngster would be fulfilled without breaking the bank! read more

I love coming to this ballpark. Easy to come by car with parking options and then it is very close to the Staten Island ferry which makes coming from Manhattan super easy. The tickets are well priced, the stadium smaller than major league so all seats are super close to the game. A great way to get kids involved in the game. I finally did it. I finally got my butt on the free ferry to the fabled Staten Island. I almost thought Staten Island may not actually exist because I had not seen it with my own eyes. I love my Yankees! Been to Scranton a few times and THE Stadium countless others. It is wonderful being able to support my team by seeing seeing A ball right in my back yard (train and ferry ride away). The stadium itself is on the old side, but I like that. I really wanted to like it here. I guess I did, somewhat. Here's the deal: It's a minor league park - this means cheap seats, small stadium, small-town feel. All good, check check check. We got front row, behind home plate tickets. I never got to sit like that before, it was a great opportunity. And while I'm on the positive, I'll throw out the other excellent part of the experience: Flagship beer on tap. It's such a good beer, and even though $7 isn't cheap, at least you don't have to tip. So let's throw the hammer down: it was pretty boring. I love going to professional games and I had to put some real thought into why this wasn't as exciting. So, for the casual fan, there's no investment in the game. There is little reason to root for the Yankees other than because it's the Home team. I'm not into that. They should create more of a bond with players and the fans at the game. There should be player interviews between innings, and I know it's crazy, but they could have an on-field announcer during play --- like they have at AND 1 games. Yes unorthodox, but it's the minor leagues, they do all sorts of dumb shit. I would treat every game like it's the first game, and I would have the announcer tell stories about players during the game. Give us a reason to root for someone. Create a storyline. There are the games in between innings, but they just felt like backyard games, didn't really use the assets to their advantage. At Citifield, they have races across the entire field. It really utilizes the space. Here it's just kids throwing a football through a donut in front of the visitors dugout. Really not that different from a kid's birthday party. The host, she had a great voice and spirit, but wasn't elevated to her position. I think she should be treated more as talent than just one of the kids. It was as if she was babysitting rather than being the host for the SI Yankees. She could be involved in a much better format. I am telling you, this could be really cool - but there's just no engagement with the players and the game itself. In a way, the game is being taken for granted. read more

I have to remind myself that I am watching minor league baseball. The play on the field might not be as crisp and the occasional fundamental misstep. Nevertheless, it's baseball and it's good old fun. The first things that you notice are the size of the stadium and then the views to Manhattan. It's true that there is no bad seats as you are so close to the field. Just be alert for foul balls. I recommend avoiding the right field seats if you would like to avoid the sun in your eyes. There is an okay selection of food; mostly sandwich, pizza, ice cream, popcorn, nachos and beers. Not bad for a minor league stadium. It was overall a good time. read more

The Staten Island Yankees (affiliate of the NY Yankees) were brought to NYC along with the Brooklyn Cyclones in 1999 with the help of Mayor Giuliani. The 7,171 capacity stadium right next to the Ferry Terminal overlooking NY Harbor was opened in 2001. It couldn't be easier to get to, just hop on the free SI Ferry and it practically drops you off at the stadium. The stadium itself is really nice, and there isn't a bad seat in the house. Right outside the stadium is a great boardwalk and very nice 9/11 memorial worth checking out before the game. The short season class A team has already won 5 championships, which is 4 more than the Cyclones. Tickets to the games are dirt cheap, about $10-12 and if you go Thursday through Saturday there's a nice little fireworks show after the game. Prices of the refreshments are reasonable (beers are $6). If you have at least 10 people who want to go to a game you can do the group ticket deal. Personally, I wouldn't do it again but it was definitely worth doing once. For $20 a person you get a ticket, a decent hat, and their all you can eat/drink* deal. *This includes you choice of a hot dog, hamburger/cheeseburger, chicken sandwich, popcorn, chips, water, and soda. You get the food at one of three stations around the stadium, there's usually a sizeable line as many people do the deal, and you can only get one main item at a time (that means they won't give you two hot dogs despite having the all you can eat deal). The food was barely edible, really the worst hamburger, hot dog, and chicken sandwich I've ever had. They were also luke warm and the only thing to add flavor to any of them were packets of ketchup or mustard. The popcorn and chips were prepackaged no-name crap, and the soda choices were limited but you at least got name brand and full cans. Still $20 for a ticket, a hat, and unlimited refreshments (no matter how bad they might have been) is an amazing deal. If you're not that hungry, don't like soda, and already have (or don't want) a SI Yankees hat, I'd say it's better to just go with regular tickets. read more

Slightly less exciting than the Brooklyn Cyclones, but worth the view and price! The Baby Bombers play in a great ballpark that has the Manhattan skyline fading in the background as the sun sets. The baseball rivalry still runs this low in the minor leagues, especially when the Cyclones or Lowell Spinners(Boston affiliate) come to town. I say it's slightly less exciting than the Brooklyn Cyclones because it doesn't seem to get as rowdy in the stands. There are 2 mascots running around, but even they seem less enthusiastic. You can't beat the price, and sometimes you might even see a Yankee on a rehab assignment by chance. read more

Wouldn't that be something you announce? Food was completely shut down and finished before the 6 th inning was over. I was still hungry! I was still thirsty! I feel cheated! Full Disclosure: I love baseball, but I think anyone who comes here will have a great time. The stadium is only a few years old, with room for over 5,000 fans, on the water, next to the Ferry Terminal. I've gotta say, there's nothing more wonderful than taking a free boatride in New York Harbor for a half-hour and walking off to go to the game after work. Worried that the game would be sold out, we bought our tickets, about 10 rows back from home plate for $15 on Ticketmaster. This caused a bit of confusion when we arrived as there were less than 1,000 people for the game and apparantely most people just walk up for their seats. This was for a week night game, so I'm sure attendance is better on weekends. Not sure if they ever sell out. Nonetheless, we were at our seats in time for the start of the second inning. In addition to wonderful views of the New York harbor landscape including Brooklyn, the Financial District and (unfortunately) Jersey City, you see some good baseball. Not great baseball. The players are obviously better than anyone you can find playing for free in the park, but they do make some errors now and then that make you think, "Gee, I could have done that!" There are of course a lot of the silly things you see between innings that you'll see at minor league stadiums around the ballpark that are sure to be enjoyed for the less baseball enthusiastic. Unlike the big league parks, food and drink are reasonable here. $5 for a wide selection of beers and $3 for a hot dog leaves you with a good time and a full stomach without hurting the wallet too much. Of course, for those of you who think this is still expensive just remember, Staten Island is STILL in New York City. Night games are usually over in time to catch the 10pm ferry back to civilization. read more

My review revolves mostly around the all you can eat deal. The food is awful. You have your choice of hot dogs, cheeseburgers, or fried chicken sandwich. A little bag of potato chips. And sodas. I'm fairly certain we feed prisoners better quality food. They limit you to one item per round. And it seems a large number of people are duped, like me, into this "deal" because there are long lines. Even the players and umpires seemed anxious to get out of there as quickly as possible. Batters swung at everything. And the game ended with the 1st baseman dropping a catch but the official still called it an out. It's a great time for a great price. The stadium is conveniently located right next to the ferry so it is easily accessible. There is also convenient parking for those who want to drive. From our seats I had a wonderful view of Manhattan, the harbor, One World Trade Center and the Statue of Liberty. Rather impressive. It is a very family-oriented venue, but that does not preclude the ability of adults to have a couple of beers and enjoy the game. A good time can be had by all. We purchased the all-inclusive ticket that included "free" food. It's a very reasonable price. It's a miraculous price if you attend Major League baseball games where it costs a small fortune to feed the family. The food is standard ballpark fare: hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, chips, and soda (no cheeseburgers, though - oddly). It was of the quality you expect at a ballpark and was perfectly acceptable. The deal sounds great, but it's a bit convoluted. There are specific lines for the all-you-can-eat "free" food, and they are situated in different parts of the stadium. They are well-staffed; but there are some logistical issues that made it a bit frustrating. It was so chaotic that people from the front office, in business clothes, were helping to get the food and drinks distributed. Having the drinks in a separate location from the food is a mistake; but what's worse is that there were some food stands where some drinks were available, but not others. This all-inclusive package is a good idea, and it could work, but it seems like they have not yet mastered the logistics. There are plenty of other concession stands, and if you are not going to eat a lot of "free" food then it's actually easier to purchase what you want and pay cash. This is what we will do next time and I can offer a comparison. I did not let the food experience interfere with my enjoyment of the game, the stadium, the view, the players, the crowd, the enthusiasm, and the general fun. It's a fun place. It's a good time. And it's worth every penny and minute spent. You should go. read more

The ballpark is clean with friendly service. Plenty of concession stands and bathrooms to fill (and empty) your needs. They have an all-you-can-eat special. It's just an extra 2 dollars but it's still not worth it. The food is disgusting. A dry hamburger, bland grilled chicken, or a crappy hot dog? I'll pass. You're better of eating before or after the game. Or getting the chicken fingers; they're good. They have a fireworks show after the game and it's actually pretty good. I used to work in minor league baseball so I love a good game on a warm summers night. The view from Richmond County Ballpark's field is incredible. You get a clear shot of the New York Skyline. The only one I can think of that was better in my experience was in Ogden, Utah (the mountains vs the big city lights of Manhattan). That being said, I think the experience could have been better with a few tweaks. My biggest gripe at this park were the concessions. They need to train their staff to move quicker. Both the beer and the hot dog lines that we waited on moved at snail's paces. I think pre-making more of the hot dogs would have made things quicker, as well as listing the exact ingredients of each specialty dog, so that that the line wasn't held up by people asking questions. The beer line took forever and I think adding another beer stand would solve the problem. The Staten Island Yankees are a great value. I would return and hope that they improve their customer service experience a little bit. read more

Every single year for the past 4 years I plan an outting for my officemates/friends/ family at Richmond County Savings Bank Ballpark to watch the Staten Island Yankees. The first year it was rained out but because we had the All You Can Eat Group package they let us hang out at the ball park in the rain and eat. Not the greatest night out... but we made the best of it. The 2nd year we got rained out for MOST of the evening and watched a game that started at 830 pm. We still ate to our hearts content and decided we would come back again. The 3rd year the seats were amazing and the crew decided to change the all you can eat method which resulted in most of my guests waiting on line for HOURS getting free food. The event was such a shit show that the staff comped my entire groups tickets for a more enjoyable experience. The next week the game was successful as was getting the food. You would think that after all these years they would find something that worked and actually stick with it... but NO. They keep going back to the same old retarded methods of food distribution that leave the group 1) running up and down several flights of stairs to acquire one burger at a time 2) ONE food kiosk for the entire ball park! 3) lines lines lines. missing the game because you are waiting in line for food. And 4) going on a mission to get food only to find out they ran out and will replenish in 20 minutes. My guests werent upset. I was. I wish the staff here would pick a system and stick with it! planning an event here is like Russian Roulet. Picking a game day so far in advance and the chance of it raining on game day are 50/50 (but at least you can exchange your ticket) And telling everyone what to expect of the food situation only to have it blow up in your face when they change the procedure AGAIN. Next year we are doing sky boxes. For a little extra $$ the food is catered. The box is air conditioned and you wont get soaked if it rains. If you and your family are looking for a cheap fun time, try a minor league game!
