This review is based on my experience with Karen, I came in one night wandering aimlessly after searching for store brand pork rinds and I guess she saw me looking lost and she asked if I needed help. I thanked her but declined because she looked really busy making sure nothing was out of place amongst her other job duties I'm sure, and I figured it wouldn't take much longer for me to find them. Needless to say after 5 minutes of looking through the aisles, I never did. I saw Karen again and asked her if she could help me and she didn't hesitate, she searched high and low and I do mean that. She said they didn't have any at the moment but she came to me with three bags of pork rinds from other brands and I really appreciated her efforts. I grew up in the surrounding area of this store and have always loved their service, fresh meat and produce but the one thing I love the most is their bakery. They all kinds of cakes but they do have the best chocolate cake evaaaaa! The reason I say this is because I have thrown too many birthday parties for my kids and I have tried chocolate cakes elsewhere and the cakes are either too sweet or the bread is too dry. From Gloria in the Deli dept. who helped me order a meal for a party, to the store manager who greets guests with a sincere smile, to the cart collector who helped load my bags in my car. I grew up in this area, I have been living out of state. I walked in Friday afternoon around 1pm for some fresh bakery bread, on a whim grabbed the garlic spread for our casual afternoon gathering for Christmas Eve. I was greeted with a smile by security. There was a gentleman restocking a endcap he noticed a few of us who had 3-5 items. He immediately opened the customer service lane to expedite so the long lines would lighten, despite the hectic number of customers this tall thin gentleman in a whimsical Christmas shirt gave us a smile and said he was going to make it. I rarely write reviews for grocery stores, but this location left such a good impression I just had to! First off, Ren deserves like, "Employee of the Year!" He saw me struggling to open those darn plastic bags and walked over like a shining knight saying, " I got you" and helped me open ALL my bags. I have never once received such kindness at a grocery store.. lol okay I might be a bit dramatic, but still, Ren's got my vote for employee of the year!! Second, all their produce was super fresh and the store in general was very clean and tidy, unlike other locations I've been to. I stopped to pick up one item, but I was impressed at the fresh produce and selection of meats. I decided to go back and get a cart, so I can purchase other items. They had an associate standing up front to wipe down shopping carts, before handing one over to customers. Also cashiers were wiping down conveyer belts in between customers. There's no one like a grocery clerk to make you feel invisible. These store cashiers are really good at it. They have one (Tina) who is constantly professional and competent. They're such a sullen group that you'd think they were in a penitentiary. They do speak occasionally, to each other, but not the customer. I shop here because it's close to home. There has been absolutely no improvement with some of the cashiers working there. One in particular by the name of Tina. She is always rude. Never says hi or by to anyone. When you ask her a question she gets annoyed rolls her eyes at you. I spoke with the store manager and her manager assistant. So now when I shop, and its time to check out, she calls her assistant manager to take check me out every time. Instead of training her , he thinks this solution is justifiable. She hasn't stopped being rude to other customers. This store has poor management. I called corporate a few weeks ago and never got a call back. This Tina has been working at this location for many years. Service sucks here. They should fire every manager here and get new management, same with the cashier Tina. There is another rude cashier. She is angry when she works there. I have to drive 30 minutes farther to Food 4 less to get great service because this Staters sucks. Customer service is none existent here. You really can't change the clientele, but I appreciate the efforts made to make this Stater Bros look updated and nicer. Gone are the drab floors and old refrigerators. Though it takes a lot of getting used to, as they had changed the aisle arrangements as well, but there is usually a staff member around to guide you in the right direction. Having a butcher makes this Stater Bros a plus over Ralph's on State College, but other than that, the lines are usually long and they do not open a cashier right away, unlike Ralph's. Parking can be a problem. Not that you can't find a spot, but mainly there are just too many cars in a smallish parking lot with lots of shoppers who unfortunately leave their carts everywhere. Definitely up a star from their old look. I might need to like this place more as Ralph's on State College and Lincoln is closing. Stater Brothers needs to step up their game. Well, I guess you can't do anything about the parking lot or the clientele who don't wear deodorant or take a shower. How about having more cashiers please. How about prime vs choice steaks. And maybe you should reward shoppers who bring their own bags (I don't know what Ralph's green bag points does, but I get coupons in the mail :p) I guess right now, I'll just take what I can get. read more
