Stater Brothers has very reasonable prices on their groceries and I have gone here for many years. They also have very good meats with their own butcher shop. Lately, however, I have been disappointed With them because they pack up their groceries with a paper bag without any STRAPS, this is not very good for the customers! I've shopped at this Stater Bros for 29 years. I really like all the employees and I find what I'm looking for. We are being ripped off with the prepackaged Stater Bros Meat products. I purchased a 2 pound tube of ground beef yesterday and I needed to portion off different amounts for a recipe. When I weighed the entire tube, it was 1 lb. 14 oz. So I'm missing 2 ounces. $13.98 which makes the meat $6.99 a pound. 2oz is .86 cents. We are being ripped off. So if they sell thousands of pounds of chopped meat a day then Stater Bros is sticking that money in their pockets!!!! read more

Stater Brothers in San Clemente is one of my go to grocery stores. I moved out of the area and still go back, great staff (even though some of the best are retired) their prices are reasonable, their meat department is good and they used to have some of the best produce. Today I specifically did not pick up strawberries at Costco because I did not need that many and did not want to waste them. I drove to Stater Brothers specifically for strawberries and two other items. I spent time looking for the strawberries, making sure nothing looked like it was rotting, or none of the berries were leaving a juice at the bottom of the container. set them on the counter to wash later, which end up being a few hours later. I went to wash them and found half of them were like they had been frozen and started melting. I have to throw away almost half of the container, I'm so irritated because of the, specific trip to get them, the waste of money, and this year disappointment in the product. You should do better Stater Brothers, your reputation is better than this. read more

It is unimaginable how Bill (the manager of this store) justifies his executive decisions, clearly this guy feels the need to overcompensate for something small in his life. My family was hit with Covid, so we began using Instacart regularly. Here at Club Covid there are no activities, you cannot leave the property and you develop a hatred for daytime television. Tonight, on Instacart (my 4th order from this Stater Bros this week) I responded to an ad for cough syrup. Buy 2-get one free (see photo). Well, we all have coughs here so I took that sale offer, bought 3 so each one of us has our own bottle. We had run out of cough syrup, so this was the primary purpose for shopping on Instacart in the first place tonight. I added several other items to make it worth the shopper's time and tipped generously. All was well, the communication with my Shopper (John) went great until checkout. The manager flagged the order and removed all the cough syrup from my order and refused to provide a reason. He wouldn't even sell one bottle!!! Thanks a lot you @sshat...the one thing we needed you withheld from us! Our chests currently hurt from the coughing fits we are suffering. WTF are you to deny us the medication we need? Make no mistake, your corporate office will be hearing about this, you suck so hard at your job you may create a black hole that will drag us and the planet into oblivion. You have no business managing anything other than the shopping carts in the parking lot...you are a detriment to the grocery business. Now we will never shop there again. Congratulations you non-winner...tattoo a large L on your forehead. As if our current situation wasn't bad enough, Mgr. Bill had to make it worse. What a sad, disappointing, pathetic excuse for a grocery manager. Hope you enjoyed your power play. I also hope somebody does the same to you one day when you're sick. Uncharacteristically weak effort by the meat department today. Asked for 4 thick pork chops. Unwrapped at home and one was in edible! Full of gristle and not uniform like a chop is supposed to be. I remember vividly the feeling of coming here after no in-person grocery shopping for over a year. My husband was ill before Covid struck in March 2020 and there was no way in hell I was going to put him at risk. So I switched to Walmart deliveries twice a month. Gone were the impulse buys. All my purchases pre-ordered and then carefully dropped off by my garage in anonymity. My first in-person shopping was here at this Stater Bros and I walked the aisles (masked of course) feeling like a kid in a candy store. I could buy anything I wanted! Throw everything in the cart! Such abundance! So many choices, all for me! I remember they had really shitty smelling hand sanitizer at the registers. Strange memory. Now I've been coming back semi regularly on my way home from work in Long Beach. I'm amazed at how many people don't wear masks. Mind boggling for sure and I steer way clear of them. I can't bear the thought of some idiot getting me sick and I pass it on to my husband. And she just pushed herself in to me and my daughter's conversation. She was saying how the bleached blonde parts in my daughter's hair, (and I quote), "was getting to her head". I grew up shopping at Stater Bros and worked for the company for 13 years. (I have since elevated my life). I have never felt more offended and disgusted as I did after my visit to this store. Juanita was very rude and condescending. She first rudely stopped me from putting my items on the belt. Said the person in front of me was not done yet. So I just responded with thank you for letting me know. Then proceeded to put my stuff on the belt after she threw down a divider. When it was my turn to check out, the nice white couple had finished, indicating that it was okay for me to put my stuff down. JUANITA then sparked conversation asking what our plan was. We responded, with a beach day. She questioned which beach. We indicated near Dana Point. She continued to ask which beach. I finally said south of Doheny. Then said rudely said, that's not Dana Point, that's San Clemente. I said no it's Dana Point. She rudely again said, you must be climbing through fences to get the beach (both my companion and I are POC) I said no, it's across from my timeshare! No fences have to be climbed through. At that point we were done and I gladly paid the bill. The racism is real. Just because I am of color doesn't mean I have to jump through fences to get to a beach. I know how much she makes and let me tell you she has no right to be judging anyone. SB needs to do a better job with training on how to deliver good customer service. Fresh baked items daily, excellent deli case with everything you need for a pot luck or picnic at the beach, great produce section very tended by Mike, and, of course, the very best meat counter in town. Garmond, Dora, Kyle and the entire crew at Staters go out of their way to make your shopping experience perfect. UPDATE: I just visited the BRAND NEW SUSHI COUNTER at the recently remodeled Stater Brothers market and am absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the freshness, quality and price of the items made by Hendra. This is without doubt some of the tastiest sushi in town. Perfect for Grab and Go! I enjoyed a wonderful Crunch Roll for $8.99, and Hendra even offered to make a custom order. So many times I've bought produce only to find out the end date is the next day or to find some of the items rotten. Short date items should t even be. On the shelf!!!! While being checked out, the manager came over to ask the checker a question. While she answered, he helped the bagger load bags into my cart. The store wasn't busy, just an instinctual help-out approach. Having worked in the service industry for years, that kind of service and mindset is really hard to find. Corona Virus NIGHTMARE, be cautious if you go here, very very cautious. I always loved this place and everyone who works here been coming here for years! BUT BUT BUT I went there yesterday to get a few last things to hunker down as recommended by the CDC for the next few weeks. It was an ABSOLUTE nightmare! First as I walked in I was so bummed to find that the sanitizing wipes to clean cart handles were completely empty. Ralph's is out too BUT they at least assign an employee dedicated to spraying and wiping each cart as the push it to you when you enter. Then through the door noticing ALL employees are un-gloved or protected in ANY way! Again at Ralph's they have a big piece of Plexiglas (sneeze guard) between you and the clerk, they are ALL wearing gloves and you don't enter to put your groceries on the conveyor until the person in front of you COMPLETELY clears the checkout space. Here it's a FREE-FOR-ALL!! NO MANAGEMENT DIRECTION AT ALL! I went thru the store grabbing a few things avoiding (social Distancing as best I could) even though some people just don't seem to care. Then as I came around to the front to check out it was a HORRIBLY un-managed MESS. There were people next to people well within even "3 feet" (let alone 6) in every line. The lines went back into the isles so If you wanted to go to the next line over you had to excuse yourself thru the next line between 2 people OR go all the way to the back of the store and choose your line from the isle. THEN you'd be standing there while shoppers are excusing themselves past and within 2 or 3 feet of everyone. I LITERALLY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE JUST WALKED (ALMOST RAN) OUT NOT BUYING ANYTHING - SO GROSSED OUT AND SCARED!!! Guys ever hear of a person of authority putting a plan into place? Maybe regulating number of shoppers in and out? It would really show you care! Ever think to protect the cashiers and other employees walking around un-protected against this deadly Pandemic? Maybe reminding customers to social distance by regulating lines and entrance to cashier lanes? OR is it just about impressing Corporate with your new found skyrocketing numbers? read more

If I were opening a new market and wanted to teach my employees what NOT to do, I'd bring them here. This is the worst market in the area, a place that has raised poor customer care to a fine art. Need help? Don't bother State Bros. employees. I've asked where fairly common products are, and many employees have no clue. "It may be on aisle..." "I don't know if we carry that." "What's it called again?" I came in to get some take-out chicken. The lady behind the counter was cleaning a machine, her back turned to me. I waited a while, and gently asked: "Can you help me?" "I'll be with you soon," she wearily responded, not turning in my direction. A few more minutes passed as she kept cleaning her machine. I was taught to attend to waiting customers first. She wasn't. After a couple more minutes, I gave up. Every market I've been in has carriers for those buying bottles of wine. Not Stater Bros. I just left and went to nearby Ralph's. And it's too bad. State Bros. is convenient, prices are low, and aisles are well laid-out. But employees should be trained to help customers first, and know their merchandise. Attention to such detail will greatly improve their stature and sales. read more

My husband and I stopped here on a long road trip to get a sandwich. Having never heard of the place I was surprised to see it was a decent-sized grocery store. We also were able to use their restroom and get snacks/sodas. The deli was my favorite part though. We each got sandwiches and I LOVED mine so much! The deli turkey was delicious and tasted above and beyond your typical deli meat. Everything tasted fresh and high quality, and the sandwich was only about $5. I wish we had a Stater Bros. closer to where I live! read more

We have been shopping at Stater Bros. in San Clemente for years. They have the lowest prices in town. The produce is marginal but the meat department/quality far makes up for that. By far the employees are the best! Checker Juanita always greets us by name and makes us feel like we are always welcome and appreciated! She takes a personal friendly interest in us as people as well as making sure we have found everything we need. Special shout to the baggers (sorry, I don't know the technical name) Skylar, Kyle and Gabe. They always have a smile on their faces and also establish connections with customers. I really tried to avoid the bagger that gave me an uncomfortable feeling, but I came in tonight and thought I could get around her, but she ended up bagging for me anyway. I wanted to say how amazing Derek from the meat department is. I was having such a hard time finding dog food without chemicals in it .He told me he could grind the chicken for me so its easier for her to digest. It worked great and Im so grateful that he has been so helpful every time I come in. This is why I come here . Small stater bros, limited selection of produce but enough for the basics. Their prices more competitive for the same items at pavilions. The check out people are nice and helpful although the wine stock/ staff person was really weird. I asked to purchase a dozen bottles of a specific wine that was sold out on the shelf and asked her if she could check to see if there were more in the back. She just looked at me at scratched her head as if I was speaking another language. She continued to pace in a 4 foot area then walked to the back mumbling something. She walked out 2 min later completely ignoring me. I just shrugged it off as my daily dose of entertainment I go there because sometimes they have 25% off 4 or more bottles of wine. read more

I've been shopping Stater Brothers Markets all my life. When I moved to San Clemente in 1990 this location was a Lucky's Market. When it became a Stater Bros. I was overjoyed, Cunningham was manager at that time. Since then the store has been remodeled 3 or 4 times the most recent is in progress now. still awaiting the blue ribbon for the front of the store. Now the products that I use are disappearing. I asked Bryan and Randy the new store managers if you'd be getting Tropical Marmalade back on the shelf It vanished, left the layout, no signage. Tropical Marmalade has NO High Fructose Corn Syrup all of the Stater Brother's Marmalade have High Fructose Corn Syrup so Tropical Marmalade is better, Healthier for you. I want this item back in the store so I can purchase it. I use to purchase Stater's Cat food Ocean whitefish but this item was discontinued and replaced by PAWS an inferior product to what it replaced. They changed the food inside the can from a Paté to a chunky Prime Filets which my animals won't eat. I used to purchase Molson Golden Ale, which changed to Molson Beer then was discontinued, New Castle Brown Ale was from London England then discontinued replaced by From Belgium replaced again the beer coolers have been remodeled or reset too many times and you don't carry Miller Genuine Draft in Tall cans or bottles single serve it's the only domestic I like and don't always want to purchase 6pk or 12 pk.. You carry Lifeway Kiefer, but don't carry Lifeway Farmer cheese or Bazar Tvorog white cheese both Lifeway products I've asked Management to try to get these items was told the buyers don't have the ability to acquire said items. I wanted to make Pierogi need proper cheese to make it authentic changing subject: I've read a couple reviews bad mouthing the service I couldn't believe what I read. I have never received bad service in 30 years of shopping San Clemente Stater Brother's Market the Deli is always friendly. they always Fried Chicken fresh on request or slice meat or cheese without complaint I've even taken a Débuque Canned ham to deli counter to be sliced or chipped to make chipped ham sandwiches never a complaint, never ignored and never dismissed even during the cleaning of the rotisserie oven. All employees I've ever spoken with have been Professional, Courteous and new employees who haven't learned the store layout state I'm new let me find someone to help or actually look isle by isle until I've found what I'm looking for. summary: Stater's is discontinuing too many of the products I use and want. Employees treat you as Family. Please correct the missing products so I can live a better life not looking for a different source for grocery shopping. Worst store ever. If you want to be accused of stealing this is the store to visit. I was standing in line and one of the checkers came to help bag groceries and looked at me and I quote "you need to take whatever you stole out of your pocket and pay for that" yeah I was in shock. Took off sweatshirt and opened pockets pulled out my pants pockets and pretty much emptied everything out in front of asst Mgr then she said "I didnt accuse you of stealing the other lady saw you" lol yeah whatever I emptied all my pockets and proved I did not steal anything and walked out. Called back later and the mgr Brian didn't even have the decency to call me back. I will never shop at any stater bros. Disgusted. I only gave one star so I could comment.
