I went to Stateside before going to a yelp event. I felt pretty much ignored by the wait staff. Like I was sitting at one of the seats and had to go up to the bar to order and also ended up putting the cup back at the bar area when I was done. The place was empty which made absolutely no sense for their lack of attention. I ordered the dirty filthy little chai. It was delicious. There is something about this drink that even when I ordered without alcohol made it taste amazing. I was told it had pumpkin and this masala chai from Chaikhana.

Food Coming from LA, my local brother brought us here for a few drinks. For the cocktail, i got the bring back dollar dog nights signature cocktail, which uses a strawberry stateside vodka base. The actual cocktail was pretty good and refreshing as well with just the right amount of alcohol and the fruity flavor comes through on my palate. We also got a variety of canned vodka sodas and iced tea vodkas, specifically, watermelon and peach vodka sodas and raspberry and peach iced tea vodkas. I liked all of them as they were refreshing and hit you with just the right amount of alcohol. Service/Ambiance The place itself is relatively small but it has enough seating on either some dining tables or the bar itself. On a saturday night, it wasn't too packed and filled up just right for me. There is a live DJ on that night, so the vibes of the place was pretty good for the casual drinking that we did. We got our drinks in good time too, so overall I would recommend this place

we had some time to kill before an event and walked in . It's a really cute space and the bartenders were extremely nice. My cocktails were fantastic. Don't eat here, eat literally anywhere else. I'm pretty sure the cheesesteak eggrolls were taken out of a packet and microwaved briefly - yup, it looked bad and tasted worse.

Out of town friends so enthralled by the amazing flavors of Surfside and they don't even like drinking tea. I was already coming here all the time to get their sodas after my dude fell in love with them in Delaware restaurants and bars and whaaaat we have it right here in Philly and can buy it by the casesssss Anyways So when they were coming back in town of course I had to race down to pick up a big order. Surf's Up!! . Showed up just in time for a tour and yeahhhhh I love learning why things are awesome and how things are made and why thy are going to crush USA with their vodka teas and soda. Get it!!!

Did the tour with Simon. It was AWESOME!!!! He was knowledgeable and tolerated the multitude of questions we peppered him with. Then we hung out for a bit at the bar and Emily and Elizabeth answered more questions. Emily sent me home with a care package to get me started after all my questions. We have found a new vodka. And we have found a new bar!!!

Stateside! Worth the trip on the El up to Fishtown! The really fun way to do it is to go on the tour ($15, only on Saturdays), and then stay for a cocktail or two. Make a reservation for weekends! Tables go fast. During the tour they show you around the distillery and talk about the history and process of the business, then you can sample some vodkas too. I actually don't really like vodka, I find the taste kind of boring, but I really enjoyed sitting and drinking here. They have dozens of flavors, so it's fun to just sit and get a sampler flight and try the four infusions that are the most interesting to you. They have normal infused ones like apple or rosemary but also strange ones like pickle. It's a unique way to spend a weekend day. The crowd is on the younger side and it's all shiny lights and metallic accents in here. Good for an activity during the day or a drink before dinner.

The spiciest drinks. But so worth it. It's a staple when my parents visit. Ingredients are so so fresh. A smridge pricey but well worth it.

Great atmosphere. Happened to just find this place on a Friday evening and what a good evening it turned out to be. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, good music and very smooth vodka. I lucked up and was able to go on the tour which comes with a free shot of vodka. It was very informative!!! I will definitely be returning. They also have all of their vodka bottles hand-made and for the month of June they have a Pride bottle

You'd be unlikely to find this unless you knew to look for it. The main feature of this bar is the cocktail menu; it's creative and ambitious and yet very approachable, with helpful adjectives for each cocktail. The Mango Sticky Rice made my jaw drop; not only did the juicy mango come through, but also somehow a sense of starchiness, while being entirely balanced with the liquor. Definitely some of the best cocktails in Philly. And the music and vibe is so cozy but lively; the live records spinning create a warm atmosphere that is not sleepy nor dancey, instead you'll find yourself tapping your feet and swaying in your seat while in deep conversation or just enjoyable contemplation. I have to shout out Carl and Brianna, who made our evening especially unforgettable. They guided us seamlessly through the menu, were so knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. Huge bar, giant wall of liquor bottles, dim lighting, and a cool old-school vibe. I told the bartender that ordering a beer in a place like this felt like I was insulting him. He laughed and told me not to worry about it. The drink special was called "Naked and Famous," which honestly sounded like the perfect cocktail to order in honor of Jen. But then I spotted a dark beer on the menu that sounded too good to pass up. If you follow me, you know I'm slowly becoming a dark beer guy. I liked it a lot. The sandwich special was a cheesesteak. Sorry, I should've taken a picture of the menu. But I really enjoyed it, and for $18 it came with a mountain of seasoned fries, which feels like a bargain these days. Bomb Shell: the two people working absolutely crushed it. I don't know if they were understaffed or if Monday night got busier than expected, but they were working their tails off the entire time. Even with that, they stayed polite, friendly, helpful, and incredibly accommodating to the guy carrying around a mannequin. Great visit to Sassafras!

I ordered guacamole and chips for appetizers and it came out right away. The chips are fresh and not stale. Good amount of guacamole. Street corn aka elote. The corn is juicy. Unfortunately, it was not enrobed with mayo and cotija cheese as a typical elote should be. Fried plantain: not many slices. They are dry and not sweet . I was hoping for more ripe plantain Birria tacos: small tacos, the consommé lacks of depth of flavor. I could only taste saltines. The waiter asked if I wanted rice and beans. I said only beans. It's basically mashed refried beans. I wasn't aware that it costs extra $4. My husband ordered this dish served in half pineapple. It has chorizo and shrimp. Again , lacking depth of flavor, very salty. Service was great. The staff is friendly. Credit card is accepted but with a fee. There's an ATM if you prefer to pay with cash.

Unlike others, we felt the portions were not too small. Overall a very respectable dinner showing from Almanac. I kind of regret ordering a pre fixed cocktail because his Omakase was so on point to what he asked for and was delicious. I love rhubarb and Gin is my usual spirt of choice, so I didn't want to pass up the Hanamachi Rikki, but while I found the tart rhubarb refreshing, it fell flat when placed next to the Omakase. While I enjoyed the music choices, he did not and it was also INCREDIBLY dark/moody which isn't our preference, but makes sense for the intimate vibe they are clearly going for.

The toro was also a standout, although how can you go wrong with toro, uni, and caviar? The wagyu dog itself was great, but the roll it was on was dry. Next of Kin has a quirky, playful, impressively creative menu with drinks that are memorable. We came here at around 10:30pm on a Saturday night after dinner. There was a bit of a line outside which moved slowly, but we were given cute champagne jello shot things for our patience which were delightful and a fun little preview of what to expect on the inside. The seating options consist of tables, bar, and what I believe they call "love pods", all of which are beautifully designed. We were seated at the bar, which is our preference anyway. I always like chatting with the bartenders and hearing about the craft, and it is particularly enjoyable when they're as friendly and generous as the folks who work here. We ended up getting the Coco Bello (coconut mezcal, apertif, aromatized wine) which is a white negroni variation and the Swamp Thang (green chartreuse, herbal liqueur, pineapple and poblano tepache), which was served in some particularly memorable glassware (pictured). With the help of Yelp, we found this place. First off, the building that houses National Mechanics is absolutely beautiful inside and out, and for good reason. The pub/restaurant occupies the old Mechanics National Bank, a majestic Greek Revival building, built in 1836. Inside the restaurant, the surroundings contrasted greatly with the outside. The large, primarily wooden interior has the feel of a vintage pub. It is equally as beautiful as the front. The service at National Mechanics was great. Though the staff was clearly running shorthanded, every employee we came into contact with served us with a smile and couldn't be friendlier. The food, at least on that day, was mediocre at best, unfortunately. While the menu was filled with all sorts of tempting dishes that already made us thinking of future visits, we opted for the Mexican Burger and the Ribeye Cheesesteak, two twists on old pub standbys. Sadly, we were both disappointed in our meals. We did start off on a bright spot, food-wise. My friend and I opted to share the Batter-Fried Pickled Green Beans, which were fabulous! Too bad the good food ended there... The description of the Mexican Burger sounded amazing, with avocado, pico de gallo, pickled jalapeños, Monterrey Jack cheese, and chipotle mayo. My friend said it was kind of bland and it was quite greasy. My ribeye cheesesteak did not match well with its "Amoroso" roll and the steak itself was dry. In the end, we were both disappointed in our choice in a lunch spot. Perhaps it was the large crowd of diners and little staff that made it all come out a little...off. In the end, I'd try National Mechanics again if I were in the area, as the atmosphere and service made it a cool spot to dine in. Hopefully the food will be better next time.
